Pan Am

Having the opportunity to worth with the TO2015 Pan Am Committee was an extremely positive experience. Both for the connection to work with seasoned and progressive senior staff, as well as the opportunity to utilize developed skills at each venue producing an eventful and eventless execution of operations. 

From review of planned installations and changes, working together with management on various facets of design and implementing these designs; to working with venue operators, building operators, city planners and installation trades and suppliers, this was an amazing opportunity to contribute to a positive experience in the making.

Its a very busy environment but my whole operations crew were very supportive and learned a lot because of intense training. As a Duty Manager, the tough part was having the responsibility of making the final decisions when it comes to route change or replacing drivers as we have a goal of having all the athletes, media and officials arrive safe and on time to their venue. The Bus Management were all dedicated and all hard workers. I had the opportunity to take care or supervise more than 800+ drivers, 45 dispatchers / bus system coordinators and 6 Venue Managers. All of these guys worked hard and played hard! It was an amazing experience!

I was certainly never bored during my volunteer experience. The days were often slow and hot but the air was infectious. I got the opportunity to meet so many new people from different countries an provinces; all with different stories. 
I learned a lot about coordinating efforts between my fellow Hosts/Hostesses as well as the switch board. 
Management was kind and fun, often bringing laughter and insight to the table to keep up motivated.
The hardest part of the job sometimes was the language barrier as well as the heat. The most enjoyable part of my experience was the sights and getting to know my fellow co-workers and guests

Supervised over 5000 entries into venues daily 
Prioritized public, and property security at multiple venues
Created a positive team environment for staff, athletes and stakeholders
Worked in compliance with the provisions of the OHSA, regulations, and internal policies and procedures
Maintained liaison with all emergency agencies: Police, Fire, Ambulance
Served as Team Lead for resolving complaints, eliminating internal conflicts and senior management concerns
Provided briefings and corrective feedback to multiple, diverse teams on a daily basis
Produced incident reports and shift analysis reports

True Experience, Cleanliness is a factor, Hygiene is important. knowledge of cleaning products in beneficial. A typical day is stripping bed sheets, scrubbing  bath tubs, toilets and sinks, mopping floors , spray air freshener, empty garbage bins, making sure doors are locked when needed, the hardest part is getting it all done on time in a orderly fashion. The most enjoyable part of the job is seeing the clients / residents face with joy /happiness of coming home into a very cleaned room.

A typical day on the job is that we have a badge that you need to get through security to get into Athletes Village. You get your card checked in by security, and then we all meet as a group to discuss what building we will provide maintenance to. As a group, we are all separated into teams and start our tasks. The hardest part of the job is keeping up with the daily routine, and staying on your feet keeping busy. The most enjoyable part was the experience of being able to see the athletes, and meeting individuals on the team

Working at the Pan Am Games is a unique experience that has called into play all of my skills while allowing me to develop new ones.  Because of the project nature of the work, things necessarily move fast so there is no time to lag.  The environment is a crucible of one's abilities and strengthens one's value in the marketplace.

To finalize your employment for Impark last summer in order to work for the PanAm games contract, employees had to pass several training and security hurdles.  In the end, it was worth it to work with reliable people who you could trust on the job.
I met a lot of people from all walks of life in this job, not just students.  The most enjoyable part of the job was being able to help people find what they were looking for and guide them to the proper venues.

I would come in early in the morning clean the tables, set food for the buffet, along with serving food. I make sure everything is organized and comfortable. Customers tend to be very happy with my service. Once that is over and done with, I would move to another location that needs my help, do the same thing then supervise the area until further notice. Sometimes I would make the food look "artsy" and I make sure restock.

Working with the Toronto2015 was a wonderful experience. I got the opportunity to work and meet new people. The group of people was fun and willing to work together to achieve one goal. At the same time we were entertained by volunteer drivers and staff. I learned a lot just from observation and getting involved. We interacted with over 300 volunteers in a fast paced environment. This made me be alert of any situation and make decisions on the spot.
