I worked as a sales associate here for just under a year before leaving. 

The best part about it was my coworkers, I got along well with everyone, but if you start anything it's like a highschool drama. There is SO much gossip, so many rumours spread all the time, but there are definitely a handful of good, fun people.

The worst part by far was management. They make you stay past your shift to clean, it's paid, but if for any reason you cannot stay they do not care and will force you. If you still can't stay you will be reprimanded (in my case, publically, loudly, and in front of all my coworkers and a lineup of people). All management that has been brought in has been disorganized, lazy, and disrespectful to everyone's time and the effort level it takes.

If you work weekdays, most of the time you are working the job of 2 people. You are expected to maintain a line of less than 2 people at all times with no exceptions, clean the store (the front of the store is not in clear view of the back of the store so if people are in line you can't see them. Meaning you're walking back and forth constantly and ultimately getting less done), clean the front, inflate balloons, stock items, get items for customers off the floor including those that require a ladder (the ladders are never kept in one spot so you often have to go on a wild goose chase to find them), and of course cash people out and process returns. This wouldn't be too bad if the management didn't get so angry if you need help at the front of the store. For example, you're inflating balloons, and someone comes in line. If you call for someone to come up to the front, if that person happens to be the store manager that understaffed for the weekday (like every weekday) then they're going to be snippy at you for calling up.

I'm not sure if this is still the case, but the hours are abysmal. I quit because there were weeks that I was working quite literally 1 shift at 4-6 hours. The employee discount is also awful at 10%, which you can only use with immediate family members.

If you work as any sort of management staff here, get ready to be absolutely miserable.

You will tire yourself out for little to no benefit. There are so many problems with the store that need to be sorted out, and as a result you are given an overwhelming workload that is further amplified by the lack of staff present at the store. This wouldn’t be so bad if management was understanding about the work load, but they’re not. They will ostracize you for not completing and unrealistic amount of tasks, and expect you to stay for extra hours.

And all this for what? Absolutely nothing. Pay isn’t great. You can be fully committed to this establishment for years, and most you’ll get is a high-five and a pizza party. You practically have to beg for a 25 cent raise. 

This is far too much stress for a retail position. The only redeeming quality this place has is the sales staff, but even that is short-lived because the turnover here is embarrassingly high.

And don’t get me started on the management staff; more concerned about covering their own backs, and throwing staff under the bus, rather than supporting them. At this point they practically have to SA a staff member to face any sort of accountability, if even.

I now work at a proper retail establishment, and it had made me realize how much unnecessary stress this place has put me under. If you can, please avoid this particular location of Party City. Absolutely abysmal.

this has got to be the most miserable place I have ever worked as a supervisor I was worked like a dog while the general manager was horribly lazy. below is some examples of the things that suck

- forced to clock out and then continue working
- forced to stay at the store 3-4 hours unpaid to clean
- forced to do the job of at least 5 people 
- constantly being thrown under the bus by the general manager 
- they say they believe in promoting from within but the general manager was an outside hire when there are suitable candidates that worked at this location
- the new supervisor was an outside hire when there is at least 4 suitable candidates already on the team
- only 1 cashier per shift so I have to be on cash all day when that is not my job
- absolutely ZERO communication between management 
- general manager does not follow or enforce covid protocols
- general manager blames all of her mistakes on her team
- when the store was closed I was working 8 hours a day 7 days a week to fix all the problems in the store
- many people work 6-7 hour shifts and are not given breaks because they don't have proper staffing 

overall horrible management and absolutely disgusting treatment of staff DO NOT WORK HERE

I know Party City has a new manager now, because before the end of my employment I was dealing with a different manager. The manager before made me work long hours which composed of about 40 percent heavy labor, carrying boxes weighing easily more than 50 pounds on top of tall shelves using tall ladders. Then working outside on the storage compartment despite freezing conditions for hours. The manager then was incompetent with managing, putting his anecdotal principles about work ethics on his workers giving us a miserable time. However, what kept me coming back were the friendly workers I worked with over the time. They made work better and fun, despite the manager not understanding normal human behavior of socializing time to time. Trust me my coworkers would say the same thing. I worked as a stock worker, cashier, and on the floor but my pay was the same as other workers who only focus on the cash register. The physical labor mostly only applied to me and few others. Over all the company is not bad, it's just my experience with the one manager I dealt with.The new manager I haven't met yet since my end of employment. Although my ex-coworkers claimed that he can manage well.

I was offered a role as a supervisor during my time as a seasonal hire. I explained in the interview I wanted to try and get into advanced retail management roles and the Store Manager offered to train me to help me get there over the next years. I learned how to manage the store by myself within the first couple of weeks including really skills such as inventory management, operating the reports and cash management modules, and much much more. What it takes is good character, for instance, if you demonstrate hard-work and capability of taking on more responsibility, you have a good chance of advancing and learning more if there is opportunity, just don't forget to voice your desires to management.

A typical day at work for an opening shift is opening up cash registers, maintaining stock organization, and preparing balloon orders, as basic store tasks. Other than that, throughout the year it is constant merchandising, adjusting inventory displays and re-mapping the seasonal sections to different events such as Halloween. Christmas, etc. The same goes for closing shifts but instead of creating cash registers you must reconcile drawers and run several reports to prepare for the following morning opener.

A typical day would including stocking and organizing shelfs. Have being hired a seasonal position at halloween there were many people searching for costumes so I would be in charge of the costume wall and locating costumes of their choice. 

Many things that I learned while working at Party City is that it's crucial to work as a team because there are so many individual tasks as a group that benefit everyone in the end when everything is running smooth and calm. 

Management was helpful and very involved. They always jumped in when you needed help and knew what tasks fit well with each employee. 

The hardest part of the job was when I was put on the costume wall by myself and the store was very busy, but I worked through it and organized everyones costume orders and called another co-worker to help me out, and in the end everything was running smoothly. 

They most enjoyable part of the job was helping customers find exactly what they needed and making sure they leave satisfied and happy, knowing they have a store they can rely on for all of their party needs.

I enjoyed creating amazing balloon arrangements for customers but what I didn't enjoy was being verbally abused by several customers due to poor management. A store such as this is extremely busy. When working up front, you are expected to cash out customers, take balloon orders, fulfill balloon orders within tight deadlines, answer three phone lines and assist customers. This would be fine if management put an appropriate amount of employees up front to ensure customer satisfaction and to be sure their employees are not being put into impossible demanding situations. I would be the only one working on a Saturday and if you've worked for this company, or have even used them for your party events, you will know how busy it can be. Line-ups of over 25 people at a time, the phone ringing off the hook, and trying to fulfill 50+ balloon orders while management sits in the back office with coffee and the door closed. When I would radio them for assistance, they would shut off the radio. I am sure this could be an incredibly fun company to work for if they could change the system they have in place.

A typical day at Party City is spent tending to customer needs, and completing tasks within the store in order to keep the store running properly. I have learned over the years the importance of listening to exactly what customers need, and how your attitude plays a major role in performing good customer service. In terms of management, I have seen them all, great managers and not so good managers but through it all I have learned that having a good manager that understands his or her staff, as well as treats staff members fairly is extremely beneficial for the company and or franchise as a whole. The hardest part of my job is the labour intensive times such as merchandising, because it is constantly changing due to the fact that it is a seasonal store. In working over the years I can honestly say my most enjoyable part of the job is helping customers with their needs, whether that be making a balloon arrangement for a two year old, to putting a smile on a customers face who leaves happy and satisfied.

If you want to have really good work ethic and eager to learn you can learn a lot a Party City. 
Communication is really important because there is so much customer interaction. If you are a quiet/ nervous individual, Party City wouldn't be a good fit because customers need someone with answers and that are confident in explaining information. Party City is not for everyone. 
I really enjoy working at Party City because there are so much enjoyable celebrations and seasonal changes.
As a manager I find my job really enjoyable. Stock can be overwhelming at times but we all try to work as a team to get it done.
The hardest part of the job is multi-tasking. There is so much expectations when you are a cashier. Between answering phones calls, blowing up balloons, taking balloon orders and cashing customers out. We have some much product in the store that we get asked where product is a lot.

A typical day at work for me is usually running cash and balloons. So when I am not busy helping someone at cash, most of the time I am blowing up balloons. When I'm not doing either, I am always filling, cleaning, facing, keeping the store looking presentable. I have learned more about multitasking than I ever would if I never had this job. It seems like it would be super easy to work there, but behind the scenes, it is intense. Management and coworkers are always there to support you. I always have at least one person in management working with me. The hardest part of the job is probably when it's extremely busy and sometimes being understaffed.. and the hours. The most enjoyable part is watching how happy the customers get when they realize that we have the product they need. You can't plan a party in a bad mood - so you can't go wrong :)
