Regional Managers and Facility Managers tried really hard to keep you up to date on policy changes. the problem is they changed CONSTANTLY and were hard to keep up with. And we're always avalible to help, they were what made the job fun to work.
Never recieved a raise my whole time working with them (year and a half). 
Good bonuses but that completely relies on factors you have little to no control over (example: you have a staff member that is late opening the gym. No bonus that month.) And they do run a lot of incentives bounuses (all bounuses taxed, of course).
Head Office is just around to pat themselves on the back for company growth and sales growth while staff remain at minimum wage, make you sit in pointless meetings all the time (Quarterly meetings are basically summed up to "this could have been an email" but I guess they need something to do all day so slide shows and pointless excel sheets it is.)
If you are a manager you are expected to be on call 24/7 but are not paid for on call time and are expected to go in at a moments notice because, and I quote "You run a facility of a multi million dollar company, we want you to treat it like you're own business." While you make pennies to the dollar that the actual CEOs and head office people make. How about you guys drop everything then since you actually do benefit from the millions of dollars brought in while we scrape by. 
And people are just garbage with any customer service job but you will deal with the most vile and rude people here who just scream in you're face, relieved themselves in tanning booths, shoot OF videos in the change rooms, non stop theft (like a car a week from locker room break ins), just to name a few off the top of my head.
PFU: the training classes are the most USELESS things ever, it could all be learnt on the job but it's 10 days of training and you won't remember any of it cause its a lot of information. 
Rotating door of staff (Managers having to cover shifts). It's a min wage job people will quit and get fired non stop so it's new people all the time because they don't care. You will get bare minimum because you pay the bare minimum. And managers you'll want to give raises but you're scheduling budget is so tight if you give a raise you're gonna be down to a bare bones crew.
Honestly.... its customer service for a chain gym, you know what you're getting into.

This review is for PFs in Western Canada specifically. Each PF region is managed by a different franchise so your mileage may vary depending on what franchise you are with. 
The jobs quality for both work-life balance and overall culture on a day to day basis is highly dependent on the personalities of your team.
Your team has the odds stacked against them; they are (regardless of location) overworked and underpaid. As a manager, it's your task to get them to keep things to a high standard lest you get in trouble from the corporate inspectors. 
There is nothing you can do about the overworked and underpaid side of things, as the budget set by the franchise is very strictly controlled, so oftentimes you will be running a skeleton crew of staff, leading to burnout and turnover. 
Overall the franchise is top-heavy, and focuses on rapid expansion rather than measured sustainable growth; and while the business model achieves some results, it has come at a cost of burnt out staff and dilapidated older locations as the franchise focuses on opening the 'next big location'.

What the franchise really needs is a top-down restructuring and a proper reallocation of funds into the areas that actually drive their business; their customer-facing employees. 

Depending on the club you end up in, the role of Assistant Manager is fairly easy; you will often be solving customer complaints, fixing machines, ordering things, and talking on the phone, and ensuring the cleaning tasks are done. For the pay, it's not that bad, but could be better. The real downside is watching as the coworkers you work with suffer the indignity of working incredibly hard and being unable to reward them duly, then watching them disappear as they find roles elsewhere that respect them properly. 

typical day depends on how many employees are staffed that day, for some reason my club believed we were fully staffed daytime with 5 people so most days you'd be standing at the desk for a few hours then when someone came in you got right into cleaning while trying to manage hourly walkarounds and with high standard management it was very stressful to complete everything, I felt like I was walking on eggshells. 

From the job, I learned how to handle conflicts and how to clean gym machines

Management for my club felt like a strict parent, not very much praise and anything you did wrong would be blasted to the extreme and you would feel like you are a child when they are "coaching" you.

The culture was alright, I made friends with most of the staff, but then again you didn't have much time to chat without the manager checking the cameras and calling the club to reprimand you, but at the start at least, it was fun to be there especially if you make friends with some of the members

The hardest part of the job for me was to keep up with all of the standards, my manager had a lot of things for us to do and keep in mind all day and when I started to feel burnt out, I did less and instead of the manager re-evaluating their crazy high standards, they would have a conversation with and try to give you ideas to manage it better, and that just made me feel unseen, while I appreciated the guidance, the standards just kept getting higher so it didn't work. My performance started to lack due to feeling unappreciated which made things worse because I would get in trouble more, but it was never about them being better, just me.

The best part of the job was making connections with the members.

I worked at Planet Fitness in Grande Prairie before the actual gym opened and we were only in the trailer.

Since then, here's the things I've learned about Planet Shitless:
         -Human Resources is a joke. They've been emailed twice about the acting manager (who is still working) PF GP and the employees were notified that she wouldn't be staying much longer. Days later somebody came up and promoted her to GM.
         -Things the manager did that warranted an email:
                 -Sleeping in the tanning booths
                 -Screamed at employees the front desk in
                   front of customers and other employees
                 -Wrote a write up on an employee and said it
                   was from another without their knowledge
                 -Consistently lying to uppermanagement
                   about insubordinate employees
                 -Shows up HOURS late for shifts yet writes
                  up other employees for being 5 mins late
                 -Could literally write a whole other review for
                   the manager alone
         -When I started I was promised 16/hr as overnight, and was getting underpaid from the get go. They paid me back pay only because I threatened to go to the labour board.
         -Despite working night shift, I was not allowed to sit and got written up twice for doing so. You try standing and cleaning for 8 hours.
         -Employee confidentiality is also a GIANT joke to PF GP'S manager. She consistently told other people whenever writing me up, and tried to spread rumors between other employees to start fights.
         -Theres a lot of judgement at this job being a "judgment free zone".
         -This job is basically just a janitorial position with a gym membership attached.

A typical day at Planet Fitness isa whirlwind of busywork orchestrated by upper management who seem allergic to lifting a finger themselves. From endlessly emailing redundant information to scrubbing bathrooms because there are no cleaners, managers are expected to do it all. Yes, you read that right - managers doubling as janitors. This is unheard of in any other company.

Let's talk about management. At Planet Fitness, it's a parade of unqualified individuals who wouldn't know a dumbbell from a barbell. They show little regard for their staff, providing minimal support or training, while constantly demanding more.

The workplace culture is toxic, to say the least. It's a hostile environment where staff are overworked, underpaid, and often coerced into working beyond their contracted hours without compensation. How is this even legal you can work 10 hour days for 8 hours pay.

The hardest part of the job? Constantly dodging the blame game orchestrated by upper management. Despite doing everything by the book, they'll nitpick the smallest details and pin the company's failures on you.

But perhaps the most appalling aspect is the lack of basic provisions for staff. No staff room, no essentials - it's as if they expect us to work in subpar conditions without a second thought.

In conclusion, why would anyone subject themselves to such a dismal work environment? Planet Fitness may tout itself as a judgment-free zone, but behind closed doors, it's anything but here to squeeze every dollar from members and save every dollar on everything else. Work for any other gym in Canada, do not work for this company.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Planet fitness was the place I blossomed. I mean it. It’s the place I found passion for health and wellness if it wasn’t for that career I wouldn’t have got my Personal training certificate (through CanFitpro) it was a place I discovered my passion, my home. I adore the members and have great relationships with them. I wish I could’ve grown with the company and management but I didn’t quiet fit and for that I’m greatful, now I’m at Von and got my aqua fit license and have thrived since leaving.. if it wasn’t for that place I wouldn’t have found who and what I wanted to be. I hope the staff are just as passionate, just as educated.. because that place still and always will mean the absolute world to me. I still workout there and love to see the faces I have, the relationships I have built. Planet fitness is my home. Thank you for the opportunity, the growth and more so the passion for health and wellness!!! 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Not being able to move up in management for those who are genuinely dedicated, educated and passionate. I was overlooked many times. No animosity, I still and always will respect the staff for the opportunity I was given. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
I won’t say. Respectfully. (I worked there long ago) so it was different back then! Happy to see change :) 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I was motivated and determined to give my best with FULL education I was motivating and members loved my dedication to loving planet fitness.

Your day stays rather busy, taking care of customers as they walk in, whether it be home gym members or visiting gym members coming to enjoy the facility. If it's not handling gym members' check-ins, your handling brand new sign-ups, upgrading/downgrading, reinstating, canceling, transferring members, or taking care of balances. Doing customer service there for about a year and going on 4 months I've learned how to build friendly relationships with customers, staying positive and friendly while still being under pressure and being able to manage a customer's circumstance even in the midst of tense moments. Planet Fitness is a great place to learn to create multiple projects while still accomplishing that is being asked of you. Management there is great and are very well experienced there and know how to value a good employee when seeing one. Co-workers know how to work as a team and not as an individual in the middle of crunch time to get what ever major task is at hand. The hardest part of the job I would have to say is not being able to satisfy a member no matter how much effort you've put into meeting their need. While at the same time, seeing the enjoyment of a member when they've come to acknowledgement that you've remembered them and their conversations, is an amazing feeling.

Unfortunately, my experience as a Member Services Representative at Planet Fitness was disappointing. The role is presented as a customer service position, but in reality, around 80% of the job is cleaning and only about 20% is actual member service, which creates a big gap between expectations and reality.

Management practices involve excessive micromanagement, creating a very stressful work environment. The manager closely monitors every task and even puts on a glove to inspect cleaned areas, and if they do not meet her personal standards, employees are required to clean them again, regardless of how well the task was completed. Tasks are often interrupted before completion, and new cleaning duties are immediately assigned, making it difficult to work efficiently and increasing constant pressure.

One positive aspect is the coworkers, who are kind, supportive, and hardworking. However, staff turnover is extremely high — five employees resigned within just three months, which reflects the management style and overall work environment.

There is also very little employee appreciation, not even a simple thank you, and very limited basic amenities in the break room.

Overall, I would not recommend this job to anyone looking for a true customer service role or a supportive and respectful work environment.

There’s very little direction. Company cares more about money than members or employees. Burn out is very real given the monotony of the job. You can almost dictate how the day will go before even getting to your shift. It’s a decent place to break into the work force. But there’s no promotions in sight. The most you will get is 50 cents for your trouble. 

Members are usually very nice. But there are a few that are rude and demanding. It makes the day very long. 

Dress code is ridiculous. You’re told to wear dress pants with running shoes and a cotton T-shirt or sweater. Wearing active clothing to work at the gym is prohibited. Sitting for any length of time while not on break is prohibited. You’re forced to seem laid back and relaxed but really you’re just bored out of your mind most of the time. Especially now with the pandemic. 

Team work is none existent. Management refuses to deal with problem employees and just punish everyone as a whole. You’re expected to pick up after those that do nothing instead of management addressing that something wasn’t done. It creates a hostile and toxic environment which leaves employees frustrated with each other and stressed out. 

This is not a place for the faint of heart or the easily upset. Planet fitness is neither judgement free nor caring. They are money hungry and toxic. 

While working for Taymax group I worked as an AGM. AGMs are paid the same across the board despite which province they work in, when hired the system wasn't set up in my province of employment yet so I was being processed under another province. After 4 months they got it figured out and due to the tax rate difference I was now making $500 less a month. The company focuses only on rapid expansion, they rush to open new locations to raise company appeal often opening clubs before they are ready for the public open construction areas, plumbing issues etc. Once clubs are open they receive little repair or care further showing once they are open they wipe their hands with you. Company culture is to just please the customers meaning staff take repeated abuse and threats, customers are met with free months as a result. And the promise of promoting from within is simply not true. Advancements were available within our market and my peers were not considered or allowed to apply despite being in good standing with over a year continuous employment. Another employee was let go due to no position being available then the same position was posted 6 weeks later, aimed at an attempt to cut salaries.
