Poets Cove Resort and Spa


It is tough to find staff on an island, so it really is a mixed bag of unique individuals not necessarily qualified for their positions.
There is a lot of gossip, negativity and drama.
Most enjoyable part of the job is getting to know coworkers.
I learned that I am capable of far more than I thought I was and that I have MUCH higher standards than the resort owners.
The hardest part of the job is knowing that  the staff have the talent to make this resort really shine, but there is ABSOLUTELY NO support or priority from the owners to spend the money necessary to present a hotel worth visiting. I have very recently stayed in hotels at 1/4 of the cost of Poets Cove or any Aldesta properties, that were 100% cleaner, updated, and fully functioning as opposed to Aldesta’s properties that are crumbling and neglected, dirty and malfunctioning. Staff can only do so much with what they’ve been given. I’m not sure why the owner’s purchased the properties..they are from China and have millions perhaps billions of dollars and cannot be bothered to replace horribly stained furniture and carpets and malfunctioning plumbing. Of course the hardworking staff absorbs all of the guest complaints and tries the best they can to smooth over this atrocity of a business.

A typical day at work was often disorganized and stressful, with unclear priorities and constant pressure to handle multiple issues at once without proper support. It felt more reactive than structured, which made it difficult to perform effectively.

In terms of learning, there were limited opportunities for growth or development. Most of what I learned was through trial and error rather than guidance or training.

Management was inconsistent and at times lacked transparency. Communication was often unclear, and decisions seemed to be made without considering the impact on the team.

The workplace culture was not particularly supportive or motivating. There was a noticeable lack of recognition, and morale often felt low among employees.

The hardest part of the job was dealing with the ongoing stress combined with insufficient support and unclear expectations.

The most enjoyable part of the job was interacting with certain colleagues and guests, as those moments provided some positivity in an otherwise challenging environment.

While living on site you would wake up and walk out your front door into your workplace, drive golf carts to and from each cleaning location, clean in a timely manner and ensure guest quality assurance after each and every clean. Report to managers via walkie talkie and have staff meetings at the beginning of every day to go over days work. Every staff member would write down upon entry and upon leaving each clean as a clock out method and then log in each and every day as well. Shuttles were provided for staff members to and from the town/ferry for off island residents but overall the staff was young and there were a lot of enjoyable spots on the island and a beautiful marina to work in as well being as it is its selling feature.

This job, well management are very unprofessional.
You pay for: lunch/dinner, staff accommodations, laundry.
No benefits to working out there.
Cooks make $16, maintenance and groundskeepers make the same ($16)
While receiving a benefit from the government to subsidize 60% of employee wages
You will make 30 cents above minimum, and they will try to mush you to work fast as if they paying you 18+

summer's are stressful and busy, as they are always understaffed, in the winter there is nothing to do (they will most likely lay you off)
you can save up some money there, only if you don't really go anywhere and would recommend it for long 
everyone is overworked, especially management, some departments are really toxic
staff accom is moldy and no one cares to clean it

Some areas of Poets are fine to work in, such as house keeping, but the work culture is temporary & transient. The kitchen environment can be caustic, foul mouthed & downright abusive. Poets has some excellent staff but they are not cared for or appreciated nearly enough.

Owner's were absent and upper management was not invested in the company. They tried to cut corners and part of that meant not enough support to lower level management who were run off their feet most of the time.

It was a great place to work. Unfortunately not for careering, because its a seasonal job. Im looking for a place where i could develop a serious and long term working plan.

Absolutely love working at Poets Cove. The admin/office team are supportive and eager to ensure guests needs are met. Management is great at recognizing strengths, pointing out good work, and practicing discretion when offering corrections.

It is a ok workplace to be in, it is a little unorganized when i worked there as new management was being switched around at the time but once we got the management sorted it was ok.
