Under-staffed but unfortunately that's to be expected in LTC; disorganised in replacing staff who call out sick, often leaving 3 staff to care for 32 residents. Unrealistic day-to-day expectations for amount of staff and resources given. 

Inconsistent communication regarding changes in resident care, daily expectations, general policies, unit outbreaks, etc. both in method (various internal systems, physical memo, verbally on-shift) and in efficacy reaching all staff, especially part-time staff with several days between scheduled shifts. 

High turnover both in floor staff and management. Felt like management expected everyone to know who they were without introduction despite this. Very high-and-mighty attitude from management in general. High levels of burnout among staff.

I'm in support of cameras in common areas for safety/accountability/proof if needed, but it felt like the intention was to surveil and try to "catch" staff rather than support resident safety and well-being.

It does unfortunately depend on staff and unit, but my regular coworkers and residents were excellent and the only reasons I stayed working there as long as I did. The PSWs and unit nurses for the most part are doing their best to provide the highest quality care and support each other as a team. Certain nurses will go out of their way to support the PSWs on their shift, which makes a huge difference to the day. Despite high turnover, those who stay are dedicated to the home and those living there. Many staff have been there since the home opened in 2013. 

When I left, things were in the midst of changing (again), and I sincerely hope this time the changes end up genuinely bettering this home long term.

No matter how hard you work, how many breaks you miss, how much you are disrespespected by management, or psws who don't care about your time, you will burn yourself out, and wonder if all the toxicity is worth it. Watching long term staff who POURED their hearts into the residents and their coworkers was heartbreaking. The atmosphere they create here is management is more important than any staff member below. You are nothing to them and they make sure to create a fearful environment. There was a point we were told calling in if you have children is not a valid excuse, being reminded if anyone takes food that is going to the garbage they will call police on you. (I had lots of family members say how sad this is that food insecurity is real and we just throw it all away). Healthcare shouldn't be like this. Where is the team work? Team work and a healthy environment shouldn't be driven by fear. 

The most enjoyable part of the job are the hardworking staff that aren't apart of management. 

Unfortunately, my experience at Hanley House was nothing short of a nightmare. This LTC facility is the epitome of autocratic management, treating employees like machines rather than valued team members. The lack of guidelines for resident safety is concerning, and the fact that all PSWs are hired from a single ethnic group shows a severe lack of diversity and inclusivity.

I would strongly advise against starting a career at this facility, as the management is incompetent and disregards basic standards of care. I went as far as filing a complaint with the Ministry of LTC about their infection control protocols, which resulted in multiple visits and a scathing audit report.

In summary, Hanley House is a toxic work environment that I would not recommend to anyone in the healthcare profession. Make sure to do your research and choose a workplace that values its employees and residents.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Some of the management staff were courteous, registered and unregistered staff were for the most part kind and helpful.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Disorganized, heavy workload, RNs were hit/miss some extremely helpful and others punitive in the way they spoke and authoritative and spoke down to you. Staff of similar ethnicities spoke their native language amongst themselves and were clearly discussing you while doing so. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Large corporate style of home, beautifully kept and the residents were lovely. Missing that team work feeling and inconsistency between floors and practice.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Very stressful, unable to take a break and often staying late.

A typical day at work is everyone blaming the other person for some or the other thing. You wouldn't find yourself at peace while working here. Everyone wants to abuse their power and position to the max. Such an environment affects your personal life and mental well-being. Their expectation from you is that you work day and night which of course you're not being paid for as it is a salaried position with zero appreciation. The management is so clever that they won't even talk about this through their emails as it was also never mentioned in the job responsibilities to work day and night. Unionized workers try to blame the administration for everything and the management supports them without even making sure if their accusation is legitimate and would set meetings just to discourage you and for you to waste your time to prove that you were right all along.

The 3 senior management are terrible,  driven by power and control. They do not understand the front line issues and will not respond to concerns. Very poor communication from management. There is clear favoritism from management to select staff.  The home works on a knee jerk reaction to problems vs being proactive to concerns. Then backtracks, so confusing for staff.   PSW/Nursing staff are not acknowledged for all they do, many go above for the residents. Always short staffed in many departments, management takes forever to resolve this if they do at all.    Resident care is great,  Overall a terrible place to work.  

If you get hired on as a psw then be prepared to have all of the single’s, which is usually 9+ residents which you don’t even get to start until after you’ve helped one of the other psws complete 4/5 residents who require two psws to assist with. 

Don’t count on being paid if you started orientation before the next payday either. Instead expect to get paid four weeks after you’ve started and when asking management about when you get paid expect to receive multiple different answers.

There was absolutely nothing good about working for Primacare.

Bullying and inconsistent expectations from management.

Toxic, bullying, favouritism, stressful

Worst company to work for. Ever since the new head office took over, they only support their own people and personal references. There is clear favoritism.

If you are facing a family emergency, they show no understanding or consideration. However, if the same situation happens to someone from corporate, suddenly all rules change and support is given.

There is no empathy, no emotions, and no fairness toward employees. I strongly do not recommend working here.

nightmare to work at pay sucked the drama that went on was ridiculous!And the dam union always fought for them causing even more anger .Probally went through 5-6 managers and same in supervisor position in 5 yrs I worked there most horrible place . I work else where when the family tells me the list of homes there waiting on I always tell them if they love  there parent don’t send them there worst job experience of my life
