You are constantly yelled at by customers because its such a dirty hotel. Cleaning staff do not clean the hallways and skip parts of the room that look "clean enough". They never remember to put bed bug covers on and when they do they are cheap bed covers and not bed BUG covers.  Housekeeping is mean to the rest of the staff acting like they are the center of the hotel. The place is about as clean as the homeless hotel downtown Red Deer. Bed bugs 4 times in 6 months in 2018 and 2019. Only cleaned, did not do proper extermination.  You can see the bugs get bigger through the complaints pics on the internet and forums. Pool is only cleaned 1 time per week. Sometimes is so dirty you can't see the bottom.Staff are forced to work alone in a hotel of 100 rooms and that's including a pool and waterslide. They cheap out on everything and it really shows up in their cleanliness and staff friendliness. Hookers in the rooms and drug addicts coming and going all the time. You have to be afraid of getting sick or a disease. Sleep is a luxury if you work here. South side of the building is collapsing and no one seems to care. Ownership is terrible. Atmosphere is like an abusive family structure.

A typical work day at Ramada Plaza wasn't bad, everyday was something different, room call, doing electrical, plumbing, repairing drywall. What you normally do as a maintenance person fir any hotel. I've learned never ever trust a non union hotel they get rid of you with absolutely no warning and no reason. The hardest part of my job was trusting management thinking my job was secure. The most enjoyable part of my job was one of the owners, I won't mention his name but he always had a smile on his face and was very approachable, he would always ask how you were doing and genuinely acted like he cared. But like I said job security is a myth there, I was told after they let me go, they also fired head of house keeping who had been there like 13 years. So if you want to work there just keep your eyes open for other employment opportunities because you never know what day will be your last. This is the type of place that keeps you awake at night because of how high your stress level is. Management is very poor and makes it obvious they don’t give a **** about you.  I have never felt so unappreciated, and unvalued working for a company in my life. They will make you feel worthless and replaceable, yet they expect so much of you. If you fail to do something or don’t do it correctly, you will hear about it. Not nicely either. The hotel is extremely outdated. I have no idea how the building is still open since the plumbing and electrical is so bad it doesn’t even work properly. Did I mention the bugs? There are spiders, cockroaches, ants and several more bugs kicking around this place all hours of the day. It’s disgusting. Management wants us to tell guests they come in from the side entrances but that’s not true. I wouldn’t be surprised if we had mice or rats at this point. DON’T WORK HERE. It’s not worth it, even if you are desperate.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The hotel guests are usually fun to help.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The management is unreliable, unprofessional and does what he wants regardless of law.  He doesnt care about his employees.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Stressful culture.  The different departments dont support each other but, rather, blame each other when things go wrong.  The management takes advantage of you, working you double shifts when someone doesnt how up and acts as if its your duty.  Its an uncomfortable environment oftentimes with coworkers.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Check in guests, answer phones, Check out guests,  book reservations, answer emails, clean common areas and pool, assist guests, clean rooms if required, fold laundry if required, prepare meeting rooms when required.

Started at 7:30 am. Started washers and dryers for the coming day's work. Washed and pressed table linen and sheets for restaraunt and guest rooms. Learned how to be more productive and organized . Management was terrific and helped in the laundry room when needed on extra busy days. Not only did our supervisor help out but the general manager also helped whenever he could. My co-workers were a group of hard working, talented and dedicated men and women who all believe that guest satisfaction is all important to the running and reputation of the hotel and still strive to give the best service and overall experience to the guests. The hardest part of the job was not in laundry. The hardest job in the hotel for me was when I was a room attendant. Once I was transferred to the laundry, it became much easier.

By far the worst place I’ve ever worked (speaking solely as a server). Management is a useless joke. Any issues/concerns/complaints made by employees are completely brushed off. Employees have no idea what they’re doing because there’s no structure/teaching to the entire restaurant. They hire people with no serving experience, don’t train them on anything, and then leave them alone to mind the entire restaurant for hours. Even the workers that do stick around still have no idea about basic things on the menu or drinks. The money isn’t good, you’ll need to rely on the hourly wage because tip money is basically nonexistent (have worked 8 hour shifts making under 20 dollars in tips). And overall there’s just a negative vibe to the place (constant stress, rumours, drama...)  I would definitely advise others to stay away.

Its a fun place to work but when pay time comes around, watch how much they pay you... theyre cheap and will screw you over for every penny they can.. i enjoyed working there until i found out the age restriction which they never asked about nor mentioned. 

The job is super easy if you enjoy long 8am-5pm shifts contantly moving around trying to get an impossible amount of rooms done by yourself before home time. They also expect you to come there with knowledge of how to make the bed their way and if you dont, you will not hear the end of it... you have to tuck the blanket PERFECTLY in every single room or you gotta start over.. everything has to be Perfect at the Ramada Inn. So if you cant handle that, find a different job.. the Ramada is not for you. And truthfully, i wouldnt recommend it anyways.

A typical day included checking in and out, some A/R, Answering phone calls, writing business emails, responding to reviews, aiding customers and coworkers, and making the schedule. 

During this position, I learned how to be assertive in tough situations. I learned many other skills from this job as well. I loved how this job always had room for advancement. 

The Management was understanding when the schedule was being made. Both managers cared about their employees well being. 

The hardest Part of the job was dealing with tough customers and being able to get your point across without coming across as rude and unprofessional. 

I really liked that I got to train people in this job. I liked that I was always able to help someone every which way that I turned.

A typical day would be spent checking on surface maintenance of the pool (how it looks, if anything is wrong with it by eye), followed by testings of the pools chemicals (chlorine based system). The next thing to happen would be an examination of the pump room and all of the pumps running there. Maintenance of pumps was anywhere from adding more chlorine to replacing injectors and fixing the pumps themselves. I learned to operate the pool and the maintenance room like the back of my hand. The culture was good as it was in a hotel, which brought in new people everyday as well as the interesting lives they led. Overall experience was very enjoyable.

the head chef curseing and swearing and constantly putting other employees down when ever she walks in and throughout the day. but every employee is good great team effort and try there hardest to do the job. but hard to get hours because the head chef lets her emotions get the best of her job and she slowly erases you from the schedule instead of just firing you. all in all management is not good.

hardest part is the constant yelling and belittling attitude from the head chef but best part learning new things and getting better at it.

i have learned that emotions shouldn't run your work life. always be persistent and eager to learn more
