Working at Recreational Respite was a rewarding and meaningful experience. A typical day for me involved working one-on-one with clients and supporting them in community-based activities. I also spent time writing progress notes and planning future sessions tailored to each client’s goals and interests.

Through this role, I learned how to effectively engage with children and individuals of all abilities, adapting activities to meet their unique needs while promoting inclusion and growth. One of my favorite parts of the job was facilitating sessions, they were always enjoyable, creative, and fulfilling for both myself and the clients.

Overall, Recreational Respite provided me with valuable hands-on experience in person-centered support, goal planning, and inclusive recreation. I’d highly recommend this organization to anyone interested in working in community engagement, recreation therapy, or disability support.

I have learned the importance of patience, flexibility, and building trust through consistent support. Management has been supportive and provides clear expectations, while workplace culture emphasizes compassion and inclusivity. The hardest part of the job can be encouraging participation when clients are tired or distracted, but it has taught me how to adapt activities to meet their needs. The most enjoyable part is seeing clients grow in confidence, open up more in conversation, and take pride in their achievements. Overall, the role is highly rewarding and meaningful.

What I love about this job is that I can pick up clients as they are posted and create my own work schedule with the clients and their families. The platform that the company uses to post clients and for the employees to post case documentation is super user-friendly, and communication with other members of the team is seamless and efficient. Other team members are always looking to help you grow and learn as a professional, even if you do not have much experience supporting clients or doing progress notes. The hardest part of the job for me is the commute to clients' homes, which can sometimes be posted far away, although you can always choose clients that are posted much closer to where you are located. 

During my time currently working under Recreation Respite, I am able to grow my interpersonal and professional skills as well as experience working with clients in the area that have certain development disabilities. As a full time Outreach Worker already dabbling in this kind of work, this job helps me hone these skills, and the work life balance is amazing. I have two other jobs aside from this one, and I am easily able to juggle this job at least two-three times each week. The client I am currently working with is amazing and I work very well with his equally amazing family. Thanks to Recreation Respite for this opportunity, I have been able to truly enjoy my life of work even more! :) 

Each day I travel to client's facility or their home and day starts with performing a variety of programs based on the client's interests and ability and following the client's goals and objectives. I ensure that each client has the maximum engagement at each activities. All of the activities are planned and implemented based on previous life activities and interests of clients; in another word activities are person-centered care programs. There is nothing that I can complain about the outreach recreation job but one thing that the session with clients in a week are limited and I wish I could spend more time with each client. Each session with clients is full of fun, laugh, engagement and productivity for client and me. I enjoy every minute of it.

I work part-time with Recreational Respite and provide respite to families near me on a flexible schedule. With each person I support, I might work 2-5 hours per week, and choose my own hours based on their availability and my own. I support people with disabilities, and during a typical visit we will work towards their goals, which could be independent skills, social and emotional wellness, physical activity, etc. We might cook together, play games, visit a beach, recreation centre, or volunteer somewhere together depending on their goals and their interests. When finished, we make a plan for the next visit, and I write my progress notes. I can choose to take more clients or have one or two.

Working in respite care with Recreational Respite was a rewarding experience. A typical day involved providing one-on-one support, assisting with daily routines, and engaging clients in meaningful activities. I learned patience, communication skills, and the importance of person-centred care.

Management was supportive and approachable, with clear expectations and helpful training. The workplace culture was positive, respectful, and focused on compassion.

The hardest part of the job was managing challenging moments, while the most enjoyable part was building strong connections with clients and seeing the positive impact of consistent support.
