If you don't mind being disrespected, lied to or taken advantage of, have at it. There is a Good Ole Boy system there so be prepared to surrender your self-respect & dignity. If you lack a moral compass or can turn it on & off...you'll fit in just fine. Some supervisors prey on the young vulnerable people to do their dirty work, once they know you have a mortgage, car payment and kids you will be susceptible to managements predatorial behavior. Maturity level is low amongst senior people. They prey on perceived weakness. Pay is ok, benefits are ok unfortunately the members with 25 years tenure are the biggest culprits. Culture is toxic, high turnover due to the nature of the job to start then all the intentional bad behavior thrown on top just makes it miserable on a daily basis. 

Covanta was a great place to work and I enjoyed my time there very much.  I held 4 different positions while an employee and enjoyed them all.  There was some management issues but they seemed to be working their way out.  The health and safety was great and so were the benefits.  

As for the other reviews about the place being dirty - they need to go to other facilities because Covanta Durham is a Cadillac compared to those. Sure it has dust and dirt, they process garbage for heaven's sake.

The wages are more than competitive for the non- unionized employees and the unionized ones negotiate their levels so they can't complain.

Overall, I will cherish the time I worked there and the people I met along the way. Great place to work.

Very toxic where manager would write people up for something and then order them to do it in a pinch if it helped there bottom line

This employer hires staff who aren't qualified, providing an excuse to under pay them. Management are confused and disorganized, provide very little direction, and are completely incompetent. Bookkeeper is unqualified for their role and is snarky and rude to staff members. They ruin the workplace culture with that poor attitude.
The plant is filthy and poorly run. This workplace is a nightmare waiting for regulators to come inspect and shut the place down.

Working in management means long hours of at least 10 to as many as 16 hours per day. 
Management does not care about your well being because it is all about the dollars and the shareholders.  
Other co-managers do not understand accounting and have no respect for your contributions

The company doesn't respect your private time.

EVERYTHING IN THEIR accounting operations is manual!

You'll be doing invoicing using a spreadsheet. 

STAY AWAY!

Covanta has a toxic management team. They are very hostile to the employees and union. As a result the work environment is not ideal. Morale is very low and turnover very high. However, Besides management the people are good. It’s too bad because it use to be a good place to work. Lower salary compared to industry standards combined with bad management in a dirty work environment. I wouldn’t recommend taking a position here unless you have no other opportunities.

I have worked for Covanta for 15 years
The local managers at the plant level are extremely way over there heads. Local plants are usually mismanaged but at the corporate level it is well run.
The work itself is routinely hazardous to you’re health even with ppe as you don’t know what you are handling on a daily basis

There is room for growth. Management cares about the well being of their staff. Management is always listening for ways to improve the facility. Wages can be discussed, and safety is priority.

Great staff &  professional team. Great people to work with. Clean and organized common areas, lunch room, restroom etc. good work hours. Would recommend   

Don't work here.  It is the most disgusting and disorganized place to work.
