Coworkers were awesome.  However, middle management was absolutely atrocious.  Not willing to coach or develop employees adequately.  There internal system needed for the most part 3-6 months learning curve.  Some upper management even went as far as to say 1 year learning curve.  

We were trained by an amazing managerial employee.  However, instead of being trained on our actual jobs on the telephone, we were trained 2 weeks on serving face-to-face counter store job.  Unfortunately, not on our jobs customer service on the  phone.  The learning curve was set by management to  be 2 months.

So both my colleague and I, felt like complete incompetent employees due to a lack of support from our management team.  We  were not even  allowed in the end to ask for our educator to help us.  Both he and us 4-week old employees were not allowed to disturb our professor in training to guide us.  We all got in trouble by the Director of Customer Service, when he tried to coach us.  Isn't that his job?  He even felt bad. 

So as a result of my insisting on getting additional support, I was told that this wasn't a good fit.  Actually, I surprised myself when I told him that I agreed.  After crying in the bathroom at least 1/wk, I completely agreed with him and told my Manager not to feel bad, because I didn't.  I needed a job with more autonomy and better coaches and personnelle development.  I also learned a lot about myself.

So in  a way this was the perfect stepping stone to move on to a better company and better paying job.  Thank you Richelieu for giving me the answers I was looking for, for the past decade.

The Hardest Part of the Job is to adapt to outdated administrative processes and a lack of flexibility poses significant challenges, contributing to a high turnover rate.

Despite challenges, the camaraderie with some coworkers and the pleasant cafeteria at the headquarters provide brief moments of respite.

In summary, while Richelieu's financial performance is impressive, addressing organizational challenges and adopting a more progressive approach could lead to a more positive and sustainable work environment.

For a majority of my time there I worked in the back desk. I learned to use the AS-400 system to inquire on products and assist customers when need be. From there I was responsible for making sure all orders print off, and refill paper when need be. I also had to supervise any shipments coming in, as well as assist customers with orders pre-picked.
Management let me have free reign and gave me little supervision, and entrusted my decisions for the betterment of the company. My co-workers, who I had to delegate orders to, sometimes wouldn't listen or blatantly ignore my requests for help; lead to much frustration.
The hardest part of my job was making sure there was enough work for not just myself, but also the order pickers who did both customer and industrial orders.
The most enjoyable part was the scheduling. I worked a fixed Monday through Friday shift, early morning to mid afternoon. Always had weekends and holidays off.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Most customers are patient and welcoming. The employees seemed happy to work there. I enjoyed weekends off and basic benefits. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Disorganization between departments. More attention needs to be placed on streamlining procedures. Inconsistent communication to clients re: shipping and receiving products and setting expectations. Employees not properly cross trained to better support overwhelmed staff. Health and safety issues. Cleanliness issues. Poor air quality. Hygiene. No attention to ergonomics for people working on desks and phones all day. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
I enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and attire and friendly banter with employees and customers. The main focus is bottom line over professionalism, communication, support and the well being of employees. You are expendable. I was professionally ghosted.

This is probably one of the worse places to work at. 
I had read the reviews prior to accepting the position,  thinking people on here are exaggerating.  
Well, they are most definitely not. 
This company makes BILLIONS of $$$a year and yet cannot pay they employees a fair wage. Greediest CEO. 
The management is absolutely horrific at this location. No flexibility.  They make you feel as if they are doing YOU a favor by letting you work there.  Instead of making you feel valued.  Nope. None of that. Next level Micromanagement . Absolutely TERRIBLE. You would have to be desperate in order to work there.

The management could use training on compassion as well as actually confronting issues that arise.

The managements inability to do simple management tasks

It was fairly toxic. The lack of accountability was quite present in most departments. The lack of leadership was quite high

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Standard 9 to 5 customer service. Many hours of the day were pent educating new business owners on how to operate their businesses

I love merchandising! The set up of displays, being artistic and making my life a visual display and loving presentation with everything! as well as travel to different clients. I loved the organizing before and after the day was done, as well as the new environments you were driving to. The hardest part was not owning a GPS at the time and doing everything the old school mapping way! Car maintenance was another but other than this there was nothing I did not love about it!

The work for Richelieu is very dependent on the department you work for as the management varies a great deal from department to department.  The company started as a hardware supplier to Cabinet makers and carpenters and still favours that industry but is diversifying.  They are vary large but try to run as a small company with very strong ties to ownership or perceived ownership by a few.

As a former employee, I can tell you this company lacks competent management. Managers didn't follow through on promises of pay increases or promotions and morale is low. They even short changed hourly workers on stat holidays by only paying them 8 hours when every other day of the week they get paid for 9 hours (at work for 9.5 but naturally don't get paid for lunch breaks). Glad I found a position in a new company that values me as an employee and doesn't constantly tell me I am replaceable. 

The only positive I can give is that the hours were reasonable (M-F).

I worked at the Surrey branch for a couple of years and when COVID hit I was laid off like many people in the company. Life at Richelieu is good in Surrey for most of the time and they made changes to management that improved the work life but the  branch manager has to go. Has no direction and no real sales background and has had many different jobs. Refuses to deal with the so called micro manager up front. ....................................................................,,................................................,......,,..,,.Hope to be back soon................................................
