My Richter experience has been great so far. I get to work on exciting new projects with colleagues who are just as passionate and innovative. I am respected as an expert in my field and my work is fulfilling. My job requires a lot of collaboration across divisions and teams so I have a pretty good picture of the culture across the firm. It's not perfect but it's getting there!
I used to work in a toxic environment so I appreciate the fact that I work in a team free of  passive aggressiveness, backstabbing and micro-aggressions. 

The problem is not the workload is too much, there is simply very little workload and only the favored employees get work. The core issue is just the clientele is not large enough to keep everyone busy. In this situation, the culture becomes very toxic and the blame flows from the top to the bottom like waterfall. Arrogant attitude becomes the disguise of sense of insecurity. So think twice before you join, if you go to their interview and ask about their clientele, if they cannot give a full description of what they are doing or even get triggered, you know what you are going to do.

You will need to be in the inner circle of the management to get some decent work so that you can learn from the job. Otherwise you are going nowhere career wise.   Management is weak. The hardest part of the job is not job itself it has everything to do with how the management allocates workload and how work is reviewed and evaluated. I barely learned anything when I worked there. To be honest the culture there was really depressing.

The Toronto tax team has limited clientele, so I barely learned any real tax technical. The partner did not fulfill the promise given in the interview. The tax staff with background in big 4 are knowledgeable and clear on instructions, while some other tax staff are arrogant and not qualified as a manager/senior manager.

The review "Limited learning opportunities and untrustworthy partners"  is consistent with what I have experienced. The limited clientele issue caused most of the problems. People were very insecure and defensive. There was no learning from the job because the resources were very limited.

Overall, Richter is a pretty good place to work in audit. I've worked on a bunch of different files in different industries, and you quickly become responsible for your own files. Work-life balance is only okay but wayyy better than Big 4, especially during busy season. Expect ~45-50 hours a week. The pay isn't amazing but has gotten better recently, and is on par with other midsize firms.

I have 3 years auditing experience at a large canadian national accounting firm, Richter LLP, associated with the RSM network.  This includes 3 months working as a financial analyst in the Consulting department, working with a team on Asset-based Lending (and due diligence) mandates for American Banks/Lenders.

the hardest part of the job is to have to manage many files at the same time. Also each manager has a different way to work, so you always have to adapt depending on who you are working for.

Most managers will make time to help you out on the file. but you have to be prepared.

Richter management provides a fast paced environment and succeeds to deliver excellent solutions to meet the clients needs. The people make the company a great place to work.
