I've never experienced a workplace quite like Ronald McDonald House Charities. Each day is completely different from the last - you might start your morning helping a family check in, spend the afternoon coordinating with volunteers for a meal service, and end your day playing board games with kids who, despite their circumstances, have the biggest smiles you've ever seen. A typical day (though there's really no such thing here) involves welcoming families, maintaining the house, and working alongside volunteers who bring such incredible energy to our space. You're constantly switching between tasks, from administrative work to emotional support, and somehow it all just flows naturally. The biggest lesson I've learned here is that strength comes in many forms. I've watched parents navigate the most challenging times of their lives with grace, seen young children display more courage than most adults, and witnessed volunteers give their time so selflessly. It's changed my entire perspective on what resilience really means. Management here truly gets it. They understand the emotional nature of our work and provide the support needed to maintain a healthy work-life balance. They're always open to suggestions and genuinely care about both the staff and the families we serve. The workplace culture is unlike anything I've experienced before. There's this unspoken understanding among everyone - staff, volunteers, and families - that we're all part of something bigger than ourselves. It creates this warm, supportive environment that feels more like a community than a workplace. The hardest part? That's easy - watching families go through tough times. You can't help but become emotionally invested, and some days are incredibly challenging. But even in those moments, you see the importance of what RMHC provides - a home away from home when families need it most. The most enjoyable part is, without a doubt, the moments of joy we get to witness. When a child receives good news from their doctor, when families support each other, or when volunteers go above and beyond to make someone's day special - these moments remind you why this work matters so much. Working at RMHC isn't just a job - it's a daily reminder of the good that still exists in the world. It's taught me that even in the hardest times, kindness and community can make all the difference.

I love my job and I love our mission.  No one day is ever the same. Team work is so important and everyone plays an important role in supporting families who are travelling for urgent medical treatment for their sick or injured child.  No matter your role everyone is valued and appreciated.  Our families are grateful to have a home away from home so they can concentrate on what's important - their child. I have learned that caring for a sick child is physically, emotionally and financially very difficult for parents but they share that staying at a Ronald McDonald House really helps to support them during their child's medical journey.  We are a global organization with over 380 programs across the world.  We work with chapters from all over the world to continually evaluate and evolve how we can best support families with sick children. 

Worst job I’ve ever had. They presented themselves well during the interview process but on-boarding was full of confusion and they seemed unprepared and they blamed me for their mistakes. I thought it was a one off but in reality being unfair is who they really are. It’s also a high blame culture where everyone covers their back or they will get in trouble. They are also understaffed so it puts undue pressure on each employee. The pay was $21,000 below other jobs I’ve had but I thought I could overlook that and focus on helping the community and the families, but being paid that much under market value with a volatile and unprofessional environment isn’t worth it. 

I have had an excellent experience working for RMHC. All of my colleagues are genuine people who are passionate about the Mission of RMHC and do excellent work. I feel like I make a contribution locally and am a part of a big global movement.
Every day at RMHC is different, especially on the operations team. One day you may have many meetings, and the next you may be baking cookies and serving pizza to families. 
I have felt very supported by the Senior Management Team. I've had opportunities for career development and growth. 
The most enjoyable part of the job is connecting with families and seeing families connect with each other.

I love my job at RMHC Alberta, everyone is working towards the same goal, and I never hear a negative thing throughout my entire work day. The staff work so hard for our families to ensure they are so well taken care of during their stay with us, whether they are in on a day pass or staying for one or many nights. 

I  have never worked at a company with such effective communication org wide, which leads to transparency and clear expectations for all levels of staff. 

Our Mental Health benefits were increased to $2000/person for those who qualify for benefits at the beginning of 2025 and that is AMAZING.

All the people are great, the families we serve, the volunteers, and the staff. The workplace culture is strong. I enjoy the opportunities to get together in person with the full Alberta team.

I get to get up every morning and do something I love & I am passionate about and I have a whole team behind me, cheering me on and supporting my efforts.

Very mission focused, but they are not concerned about capacity of employees. Management is generally capable at fundraising and promoting the mission, but they need more leadership skills to support staff and success training.

Meaningful work for families with sick children, caring staff and volunteers, decent salary compared to other non-profits in Red Deer, good health and wellness benefits.
