This site in Cornwall, Ontario, is in the early stages, currently hiring and training staff before fully going live. The training process has been thorough, with trainers who take the time to explain all procedures and ensure everyone is prepared for the work ahead. However, there is one significant concern: the night manager.

This person’s management style has been disruptive to the training process, often interjecting in ways that make it difficult for employees to concentrate. Many employees, myself included, have observed this manager’s behavior as abusive and bullying, which has created a toxic atmosphere.

Unfortunately, this individual has negatively impacted the otherwise positive environment. Their approach is often disruptive during training, making it hard for employees to stay focused. This person frequently interrupts trainers and exhibits behavior that feels dismissive and, at times, hostile toward staff. Several colleagues have expressed concerns about this manager’s treatment of team members, and this has contributed to a growing sense of discomfort among the workforce.

While the rest of the management team is supportive and fosters a good work environment, the night manager’s conduct has created tension that could harm team dynamics and overall morale. Some employees have already chosen to leave because of this, which is concerning for long-term employee retention. Addressing this issue could help preserve the otherwise strong and collaborative environment.

Book, maintain and service/repair as many vehicles as possible within the 2 maintenance shifts.  Work with customers to ensure that they can continue to conduct business on their terms and providing them with up to the minute information on major repair issues.  Resolving down time on vehicles buy offering a substitute truck that is reserved specifically for each customer providing shipping and receiving guarantees.

I learnt to remain calm under pressure, to ensure accuracy in every aspect of my responsibilities, honed my team building skills and to provide superior customer service.

My managers were amazing!  I learnt so very much from them.  They were approachable and very patient during the learning curve.  I was given, early on, more responsibility and an excellent salary to match.

My co-workers were friendly, approachable, professional, helpful and team focused.  We were made to feel like part of a family.

The hardest part of the job was being yelled at, regarding circumstances beyond our control, by our customers drivers.  I learnt from this experience, how to remain calm, actively listen to the customers complaints, demands, etc., and respond or escalate the matter to my manager, in a polite, friendly manner, which helped to diffuse many tense situations.

The most enjoyable part of the job was the level of professionalism shown by every employee.  It made any questions, learning opportunities, encouragement and an overall atmosphere of accomplishment, each and every day.

If you are a newbie trucker, probably not the place for you as they expect you to be a professional who knows their stuff coming in. I see a lot of complaints on here that are obviously from newbie drivers who are not really familiar with the industry yet. But if it's not your first rodeo, Ryder is a great company to work for in my experience because for the most part, you get the same truck everyday, you pretty much know what your hours are going to be each week, management completely leaves you alone if you are doing your job correctly and on the TMMC accounts at least, the work is extremely easy work. No touch, big customer yards, fairly relaxed pickup/delivery schedule and the equipment, though not great, is not too bad. I think the oldest trucks we have on our account are 2013's. If I do have one complaint, it is the lack of social and driver appreciation programs. For a company as big as Ryder, they can do better than a $25 gift card from Walmart as a Christmas bonus. Quarterly safety meeting, though paid, are pretty useless as far as teaching an experienced driver anything new and burn 4 or 5 of your Saturdays per year. Dealing with Ryder's repair shops as a Ryder Integrated Logistics driver can be frustrating as they tend to prioritize rental customers rather than their own employees.

I liked the actual job I performed, and the hours were good.  OT happened now and again depending on the needs of the customer.  The company is however top-heavy when it comes to management.  I had three bosses and five other associates that I worked with in the storehouse with.  At times it was confusing as you didn't know who was actually running the show.  Communication from top down was horrible.  I always felt like I was being kept in the dark and felt as if the company didn't want to share anything with me.  Also, the rate of pay for this particular place I worked at were far, far below the industry average for this type of job.  I also felt that the benefit package was a little 'cheap' as if Ryder found the cheapest benefit plan that they could for their employees.  I actually had better coverage when I worked a full-time retail job!!

The workplace culture is weak and from my experience it was made clear to me that employees with any sort of professional  opinion, either positive or negative where quickly shown the door.  No associate coaching or professional growth is offered, nor do the management seem interested in promoting from internal ranks, although they claim to.

Personally and professionally speaking, I would hounestly stay far, far away from this company if you're looking for a career.  If you just need to make some dollars real quick, this might be for you.

They do have a good, fair pay structure and benefits, but that is about it. I was on their Maple Auto/Kentucky dedicated board for about 2 years. In two years I have witnessed quite a few office staff come and go. Their trucks, though well maintained, are quite dirty inside and slip seating is a common problem. This is because of the revolving door driver turnover rate. The trucks also use a Lytx driver facing camera system that is 100% used as a punishment tool against drivers. They have a points system attached to "events" as they call it. Example: Mobile device in hand = 20 pts,  Following too closely (even if someone brake checks you = 5 pts, No Seatbelt (even if not on public roads) = 5 pts. They have a max threshold of 30 pts per calendar month. The first time you go over the threshold = written warning. The second time= suspension and warning.  The third is dismissal. Since you'll be driving through Cincinnati and Dayton at least 4 to 6 times per week, there's no way you won't go over that threshold. This will result in you either quitting early or getting fired- all conveniently before your 90 day benefits kick in. I would recommend that good decent truck drivers look elsewhere for employment,  Ryder is just not worth it

I Derick Pahlad started at Ryder Logistics Transport last year April/2014, as a Fuel island attendant. I was a temp working for Allstaff placement agency. My duties consisted of inputting correct data into handheld computer regarding the amount of fuel dispensed into truck, customers name, drivers name and mileage in order to calculate the correct figures. I would assist the licensed mechanics in performing part changes on trucks, cutting spare keys, keeping the shop in tip top order to create a safe and friendly environment for the Mechanics and Lube Technician. I learned how to grease important parts and change truck oil and filters on big rigs. I would take down inventory information and forward it to our parts manager who would finalize and order supplies in advance to eliminate downtime. I would fill up oil and coolant containers along cutting spare keys and any other necessary duties that may be required from a entry level Technician. I really enjoyed working at Ryder but my contract term was extended as far as I was needed.

I have seen this company go from a top company in our field to one of the worst, in the past few years I have seen a half dozen locations close where competitors are opening new ones (in Ontario)

all managers above the branch level should be terminated.  I don't understand how they can make so many poor business decisions and still be employed.

HR is a joke and should be disbanded and handled outside 

You are expected to be in contact with work even on personal time

Advancement is an option but it is who you know and have seen a few "backroom deals" to create job positions for people "favorites are a reality"

Training is offered, but mostly for mechanics and a lot to do on your own time if interested.

Salary I would say is average and weekly for hourly people, benefits keep getting clawed back; we do have bonuses but not for everyone

Extremely stressful work, unsafe work environment, which means very very high employee turnover rate. My supervisor is very incompetent, and immature, acts like a child that never grew up. He is causing lots of issues among his team and no one is loyal anymore as a result. He fails to realize we are in Canada and not back home. His back home style of supervising people is driving this business in the wrong direction.

-the hardest part about the job is not the work itself but the ability to keep yourself sane and not lose your mind, as there is no sense of direction. the management and the supervisor is conflicting in their outlook which is causing confusion among employees.
-extremely unsafe work environment due to them pushing people to work beyond their capabilities. employees driving forklift all over the place and not in their lanes due to management pushing for higher performance numbers.

I work at the Fort Hills site (7 on and 7 off).  I've been here for quite a while.  No wage progression, no opportunity for growth, not even a performance review.  They grossly underpay their employees while grossly overworking them at the same token.  Management is inept, they're hardly ever at site to see the deplorable working conditions employees are subjected to, nor do they care.  It's all about their bottom line.  I also question their hiring practices.  It seems like they bring people up to site just to fill the void while overlooking experience, skill set, fit, work ethic, etc.  There's workers there who get away with shoddy and substandard workmanship without consequence while others get reprimanded and picked on.  There's also a lot of gossiping, backstabbing and favoritism in the workplace.  "A" team is better than "B" team, day shift vs night shift are prime examples of what employees are subjected to working here.  There's constant turnover where employees seek greener pastures to get away from such a toxic environment.  I don't see things getting any better any time soon.  It may sound pessimistic but that is my reality.

A typical day at work starts with picking up a pre-loaded van and the paperwork, then delivering orders to customers throughout different regions of the Fraser Valley.

I've learned about computerized warehousing and inventory systems as well as the pros and cons concerning computerized routing.  I've also learned more about problem solving and presenting potential solutions to upper management for their approval.

We now have a very supportive Logistics Manager who seems very interested in fine tuning the many aspects of the operation so that it runs well and he believes in empowering people to act proactively instead of being reactive.

I no longer see much of the workplace culture as I'm not in the warehouse very much, but from what I do see, everyone seems to get along reasonably well.

The hardest part of the job are the long hours that happen from time to time or driving in inclement weather.

The most enjoyable part of the job for me is going out to the stores and meeting the people I deal with.  I have developed a great rapport with them.
