Tough role. Job not well defined. No formal orientation. As contract employee, job expectations and schedule changed with no discussion. 
No scheduled feedback or performance review.
Abruptly ended my contract via email, while I was sick with COVID,just before Christmas. Heartless. Invited to participate in corporate xmas dinner on the 6th of December and then contract not renewed on th e 11th without warning. Absolutely humiliating! 
I believed I had a 6 month contract. 
Just sneaky and gaslighting behaviour.
Someone had to take the fall for an ethical dilemma.
Which was not properly handled.
Follow management direction and then axed without any info but an email from contractor but nothing from place of employment. 
Typical private ltc  home behaviour!!
So disappointing as I gave my all to staff and clients and families.
When your best is not good enough bur ypu are not aware and your performance receives only positive feedback from immediate supervisor pne is at a loss.
A terrible ending to what I believed was a wonderful job  with some great people. A lot of room for reflection and takeaway info.
Will not waste my passion for excellence in nursing supervisory role in the future. Will do much more homework on an organization and its leadership prior to accepting a position.




I have worked for Westmount Gardens for many years now.  They get a bad rep but it really is from the "unhappy with themselves" staff.  Those whom come to work on a regular basis love working here and with eachother.  Yes sometimes we work with short with only 3 psw per unit but from what I understand at lots of other homes that is the norm to have 3 people on a unit.  we are lucky to have 4 most of the time.  We love our co workers ( for the most part all are really nice) and we have a supportive Management team- the only ones who really dont agree would be the ones who are having to be reported. Union is great if you are a trouble worker but they do nothing to protect those who come to work and care about their jobs from the bad coworkers that give WG a bad name.  They have a new Administrator and from what I have seen so for I think she shows great support to us workers and trys to see our staff and residents as much as possible.  They have good staff apprecation like work xmas parties and staff appreecaiton weeks- bbqs and giveaways.  they also have the passport gift cards and I like this for when we are short then it feels a bit better to make more $$ from that. I will be retiring soon but I will forever miss working at Westmount Gardens. 

I honestly loved this Job more than I ever thought it was possible to love your job. I'm desperately trying to get back into the Facility I used to work at. Don't get me wrong there are some areas that coul definitely use improvement , mainly management playing "favorites" and that sort of thing. I worked as a Dietay Aide so I can only speak on that area but the people I worked with in that kitchen are some of the best people I've ever met. However, the union contract for the particular company I worked for was not the best. There are no full time positions available in that department so they can avoid paying employees benefits ect, but they still schedule you for full time working hours even though your part time. As well as no benefit packages at all for part time workers or sick pay as well as a few other things. The Connection you build with the residents does a pretty great job at making up for it.

I've heard a lot of complaining recently about being short staffed and yes--Covid really and truly does suck and has thrown everything out of order even three years later. These days I see our teams getting stronger because people are stepping in to help where they can and really getting to know the people in their unit. Some of us RPNs here still do care and we are trying our best. People care about the residents here when we stand in the honour guard to mourn for those that pass away, or when we feel the love in moments when families come in and we see Residents smiling and laughing. There is dignity and respect here and I won't let any sort of negativity make me forget that.

Just a short while ago we had a gala that celebrated people who had won for awards for things like volunteering, quality improvement, going above and beyond, being with the company for however many years, and things like that. It was nice to be with others who were committed to the reason why I went into this field in the first place, to help people who can't help themselves. I work in Kitchener so we "road-tripped" together to Sarnia and saw the head office, meet and talk with the CEO, meet some of the people in the other homes I've only ever emailed and just have a day where we celebrate ourselves and fellow nursing staff or even the people from other areas of the company that won. P.S. eat fries under the bridge if you visit head office--just ask them about it

This place has a huge management problem they come in late and leave early, they will harass you to come in and call a lot of times to make you come in. They will make you feel bad if you call in. They will make you work a lot of hours if they are desperate I have worked for 13 days there in a row. They don’t care about how you feel or how your mental state is they will make you work till you break. They will do everything in there power to make you feel bad about yourself if you start saying no to taking shifts. The owners don’t car what happens to you. Kitchen doesn’t care about if you eat or not they get mad if you are still hungry. Pay checks are all messed up and they take more out then they need to. They will leave you high and dry and they will tell you, you need 2 weeks notice when you don’t and they won’t take it if it’s not. 

When I first joined the company in 2021, there was a lot happening and I felt like I learned a lot in a short period of time. My team was really good at supporting me and helping me feel like I could ask questions. The best part was that I had joined just in time for the annual company-wide golf tournament! It was pretty fun, attended with my in-laws for 18 holes and buffet dinner. Then, I saw the Quest for Success event where our colleagues from all different Homes drove into town to attend the ceremony. We have the annual Christmas party coming up now and it is just great to see so many different communities coming together, all within the same company. 

I’ve been here for a while now and not a fan of it anymore, management doesn’t treat their employees well, with the two years I’ve worked here I’ve saw 4 cooks, 5 dietary, 3 nurses, 8-10 psw leave. Pay is decent but you get low hours unless you have worked there forever. They will accuse you of things even if you have proof it’s not true, will lie about the job (was told it’s full time with benefits but that wasn’t the case)  all and all this place isn’t the best for mental health, especially if you are going through something they will give you a written up or make you quit by cutting back hours. Would not recommend 

Our family moved from Edmonton to Sarnia and you can imagine how big of a change that is. If you've ever cried because of how lonely and strange it can be to be in a new place away from family and friends, you know how hard it can be. I am so, so thankful to my coworkers at S & R, they make me feel at home and honestly with how quiet it can be at home, I really enjoy coming to work and seeing my Residents and coworkers. It feels like I'm hanging out with my mom. And my fellow PSWs are more than sisters, they put a smile on my face and always ask me how I am and they have been showing me around town. I've found my people here and I will always be grateful to them.

I have been with this company for 6 years and can honestly say Steeves and Rozema is an organization  that truly cares for their employees.
I really appreciated the warmth and compassion shown for myself and my family during my husbands lengthy illness. Receiving regular calls from our VP to check up on us and offer support helped us through that challenging time.
I also truly appreciate their interest in each of my team mates as individuals, especially during this "covid" crisis. 
I highly recommend this company to anyone who wants to work in a positive environment where people really do matter.
