Working for this company became a nightmare. I have never felt more undervalued and unappreciated than I have working here. SASH does not care about the wellbeing of staff or individuals. No work life balance. 

As a flexible employee I worked in Day Program, Home Living and Outreach providing daily support for multiple clients. Some of these programs you have 4 clients to yourself out of town and are expected to supervise all of them despite each having different needs some requiring more of your attention than others. This was a very stressful and draining position. Day Program is very understaffed with staff turnover increasing rapidly. The supervisors and coordinator work very hard to maintain this despite being very understaffed. “Casual driving,” was daily and ranged from 2km to 100km as the senior management would not allow staff to drive company vehicles- because of “insurance,” despite the fact these vans are used daily to transport clients to and from the program!! Weather policy was not enforced in the winter months and staff were stranded and kicked out during a massive white out (out of town staff were stranded) Staff we told they were insubordinate if they did not drive when they stated they didn’t feel comfortable in the weather driving the highways. Staff are often told things are not “in the budget,” for simple things like pencil crayons or baking supplies, however $800 for grass seed and sprinklers to fix a dead patch of grass is in the budget or over $2000 in candy for a parade. Staff were told that damages to personal vehicles from clients such as door dings or broken seatbelts was considered general wear and tear and were expected to maintain vehicles as they were used daily. Day Program has a staff in a leadership position who verbally abused staff and clients frequently. 

While in home living I was exposed to clients who were physically violent and who had out of date information in regards to behaviours, medications or needs and clients who were not properly screened during the intake process as their caregivers withheld vital safety information. A specific Coordinator would constantly belittle, verbally abuse and gaslight staff making the environment like walking on eggshells as you don’t know what side of the person you would get. Supervisors would go back on their words such as “call me this weekend if there’s any issues,” only to contact them and be yelled at and told to call on call. 

As a new staff I was put into a house and told to bathe a client without the proper water temperature training. In an emergency situation there was no support and took 45 minutes to contact a supervisor. 

Senior Management is awkward and often discusses openly topics that show he makes a lot more money than his frontline staff. Other Senior Management is rarely in the office and also holds a position on the school board. 

Staff are encouraged to refer friends or family to work here, however it is rare as most staff are currently looking for other employment opportunities. 

Trying to deal with HR is an absolute nightmare!!!! Emails, phone calls and messages will often never be responded to. HR will also used my benefits to intimidate me into signing a contract. Despite numerous emails and verbal notice about reducing my hours to stay casual I was terminated. 

No paid time off for frontline staff despite advertising it. Policies are constantly changing and never communicated until it is convenient for the agency. Front line staff do not get holidays in lieu of but management does. Management informed staff that “we are too big,” to accommodate holidays and that SASH was the only agency that wasn’t running on Mondays after the holiday, however SASH is the only provider that runs on a Monday following a holiday. Sick time expires just before the summer so there’s no sick days available in the summer. 

There is a huge disconnect between the three offices. Also a mouse problem at some of the offices. 

Front line staff are burnt out and not given time to recover! Most front line staff have multiple jobs due to lack of full time hours, and are paid poorly even if they have experience or education. Very little staff retention most long term staff are leaving, staff are told they are replaceable. 


Working for SASH taught me how to identify a toxic work environment and the impact of an unprofessional has on employees. 

Things start off great and you are supported, but this fizzles out and turns into a very toxic environment. No support from upper management. You are not given proper or full disclosure in regards to the who you work with which leads to dangerous situations. 

Management has changed so much and new management is often out of the office or off on vacation or leave. Poor communication from management via text, email and often goes unanswered. Basic company training nothing to actually help with the situations your thrown into

Expected to program plan for clients and use your vehicle with higher insurance policy while being paid just enough to cover your gas no upkeep or wear and tear. Executive staff is very awkward and doesn’t know staff or clients names. Over time is never approved for front line, damage to personal property does not get covered. 

No appreciation for hard working staff, they keep staff that make false accusations and sit and complain about their job in front of clients and make clients feel not supported. 

Will not allow staff to get insured to use company vehicles. 

It is an ok work place. Often non-profit organizations have a lot of turnovers. As such your position is not always something you can guarantee as truly yours. 
Another issue is that for example you were working a shift and you find someone to take that shift. They make you still fulfil your hours somehow and it has to be in the same place. Like that does not make sense to me. You found someone to cover the shift then what is the problem.... where am I gonna pull some hours at randomly.... they end up making you use your vacation. This is more specific to those with a line.  
Some coordinators are meh
Pay is ok but meh
Barely the minimum to cover your needs
Coworkers were aight.
The most enjoyable are the clients all the way!!!!!!! 
There are definitely hard and challenging moments but the impact you have on the clients is very fulfilling. 
Funding for individuals is never enough but they try there best in the office to accommodate needs of the individuals.

Pay does not increase either

Anyway I enjoy the house I work at but the office people could do better in my opinion.

Great experience with SASH (over a year now). When I've reached out with questions or concerns, I've gotten them answered pretty quickly. Constantly throwing staff appreciation events and stay current with competitive wages.  I greatly appreciate the culture they foster and the efforts they go to ensure you feel included. Open door policy and reasonable with job expectations as well as expressing them right off the hop. Having said that I do my part to reach out when I need help, knowing it's not a one way street. My training is  kept up to date at their cost and communications on training opportunities are presented with fair and ample notice with multiple options to serve a wide range of departments.


Working here for over 5 years, haven't seen an increase in pay since. Management turnover is high and so is frontline staff. Amazing staff are not recognized for the exceptional work they do every day. Managers do a horrible job keeping communication between frontline workers, and make changes abruptly without involving the staff and the clients. Managers tend to micromanage staff from time to time.

Staff morale continues to decline as management continues to fail to recognize the importance of keeping good workers. Benefits are all right, rate of pay is higher than most outfits in the area. Great place to gain experience for your next job, not necessarily a job you keep for longer than a few years.

I have never felt more undervalued and unappreciated than I have working here. Management is the absolute worst. They continually go back on their word, and leave staff in the dark. The company lacks transparency, communication and foresight. SASH does not care about the wellbeing of staff or individuals. Hopefully they go bankrupt with their wasteful spending on unnecessary things. Loyal employees get the same pay as someone green off the street with no experience. Managers loose important paperwork and blame staff for it. Not a company you look forward to working with. If I could give zero stars I’d give negative 5.

I have been working here for several years. Good job while I spend time raising my family. Recently see a big change in management. New faces and think they know everything. They came from other agencies so either didn't have the skills to work there or want to come here and change everything and move up. Attitudes. Unfortunate as the staff here need support and just don't get it.

Job security is there especially when raising a family. They keep on poor performing staff so sometimes having to put up with terrible coworkers is a long-term problem in your worksite.

The company is horrible. The high ups are so awkward when they come to interact with staff and individuals. My good coworkers are quitting left and right. They make you use your own vehicle. May minimum for mileage. Can’t claim any work to the vehicles or the up keep to them. The amount of extra work and driving you do for them is completely under valued. In order to work here you have to be a horrible person otherwise you won’t succeed. Staff can make allegations and be proven it was a lie and then get promoted. 

Good pay and benefits compared to other agencies, quick hire with secured positions. Lack of proper training and understanding of positions. Management has poor communication and allow supervisors to treat frontline staff poorly causing a horrible work environment. staff feel bullied and under appreciated, while management does nothing about the supervisors who are destroying this company. Communication to office often goes unanswered. Lack of appreciation for long term staff who are loyal to this agency.

Learned so much from the experience here. Lots of directions you could take this. Given a lot of freedom. Friendly supportive supervisors. Had to find out your own scope of responsibility. Unless working stricter schedules and shifts. Lots of Training and keeping up qualifications. Which I think is great. 
Needed to be very strong mentally and emotionally.
