SHOULDICE HOSPITAL

Working as a nurse at Shouldice is a very different experience than working in any other hospital setting. You take care of a lot of patients each day as we do so many surgeries, but the patients are not very acute, so it is a different type of workload. You will definitely keep busy and get your step count in, but won't have to deal with the physical demands that you would face on a med-surg floor in any other hospital. The culture is very strong and the team is close-knit. Within a year, you know (almost) everybody's name. Kitchen team is so great and takes such good care of us. Management makes an effort to do nice things for staff on the holidays. A con would be that you see a lot of the same, since hernias are the only surgery we do. Could definitely improve in some of the building infrastructure/tech, but overall a great place to work. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
It’s a small place. Job load is lighter than in most hospitals

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Management = incompetent bullies. Will lie to you in your face. Starting with an interview process. Keep a good paper record. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Front, of a happy functional FAMILY.  Get closer and you’ll see you got, hostile management style. 


What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Going in not knowing what uncertainty and instability to expect from the day. The actual work is not hard.

Multi-task activities, always busy requires long standing and walking at surgical unit,.Nurses demonstrate patient , diligence and cooperation .keeping work on time especially on admissions clinics,asking questionaire to non- compliance patient ,elderly and patient manifested with mental illness. Learn to observe ,assest and,intervine to patients w/ different behavoirs. fun during exercise program when everybody had chance to move and dance their bodies day after surgey.

Terrible management of nursing staff. The Director of Nursing is exceptionally unprofessional, carrying many complaints within this role, as well as complaints from previous employment roles. Staff is friendly, but much drama behind the scenes at this facility.

No advancement possible, they only hire from within. The turn over rate is very low, full of life time employees. It is a beautiful place to work if you can get a foot in the door, spent almost 7 years at the same position with no available advancements. It was very sad to say goodbye.

Nice place to work, not crowded and because I love nature. So nature lover will surely like the place. 

Food were good and it's part of your benefit, just add a little extra cash and hotel food is what you will get.

I enjoyed working at the Shouldice Hospital, staff are very friendly and helpful. Food is $5 for breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack, free parking for staff, in-service very good, working there is a very good, I enjoyed the Shouldice Hospital.

Lots of changes  Management turn over 
Missed breaks and Short breaks 
Short  staffed every day 
Long hours , work is physically demanding 
High pt numbers  vs staff. 


Shouldice Hospital has been my second home Love working here. I had the opportunity to be apart of thier marketing team and started to change the hospitals image in a dynamic way

A wonderful place to work. Very family oriented and lots of support.
I learned so much at Shouldice! I would love the opportunity to work there again.
