SPI SECURITY

I enjoy working with SPI! All the managers and the owner are very delightful! Over the summer I wanted full time hours and i worked over 50 hours a week, which is exactly what I was looking for. They are very flexible with their hours and if they give you too much you can let them know and they will make it so it fits what you were wanting. When i started off here in February, I was doing very casual work. Then come April I had a full time position offered to me. Since then I haven't gone below 40 hours a week. The work sites very, and they are all slightly different in terms of duties. They all aren't hard sites, and no training is really needed. They give you an explanation of what needs to be done, and gives you what the expectations are, which are really easy to follow. As long as you show that you are willing to pick up shifts and if you work hard, then you will be fine working for this company. And since this is security work, you do deal with people that you may have to talk to, or kick out of a site. If you aren't sure comfortable with people, or don't want to work at the sites that frequent often with people, there are positions where you can be put that don't have large crowds, like Sasktel Centre when a concert or event is going on. There are gravel pits and things like that where if you have to encounter someone, it will most likely be one or two people, though they are very quiet 99% of the time. Overall a very enjoyable place to work, and I plan on working here for a long time!

I've enjoyed my time with the company and made many connections with co-workers and clients alike.  I've seen the owner and general manager go out of their way to help an employee who's roommate took off with no notice, they've lent company cell phones to employees with no working phone, and have even offered to lend company vehicles to those who were having car problems...if you put in the work and show that you are reliable and trustworthy it is a great place to work.  Those that do show up late or don't show up at all or don't communicate with the office when there is an issue professionally or personally don't tend to last very long or receive any help.  The pay isn't horrible and they're pretty flexible with scheduling.  Breaks can be lacking but the supervisors I've worked with have ensured everyone gets a least one 20-30 minute break every shift and the breaks are paid which I prefer anyways.  Some sites are really boring and some do require use of your own vehicle but kms, travel time and and extra couple bucks is paid every hour I do use my car.  The biggest con to the job is if someone messes up or doesn't do their job it has a HUGE impact on everyone else working that shift and/or that location.

1.  I gained the experience I needed to advance in my law enforcement career! 
2. Monthly incentives (I got employee of the month!) Christmas parties, yearly wage reviews, promotions (I was promoted to supervisor for events) etc 
3. I had Bluecross benefits that helped out a lot!
4. I was able to take me First Aid/CPR at the mall and it was paid for! I also took my handcuff and baton training and was able to be compensated for it! 
5. I could take time off before one year of service which in previous jobs I had to put in one year before being allowed to take any time off. I was able to go with my family and friends on trips and attend a wedding and a few grads!
6. My schedule was flexible. It is shift work like any other law enforcement job, so not sure what people are complaining about.
7. I did mobile sites and some construction sites and got to drive around in new charger and sometimes a truck! Cant complain about that! 
8. I loved the professional uniforms! The compliments and respect I received was amazing!

I worked with SPI for about a month and a half, during which time I recieved virtually no training. I was called one day out of the blue and "let go" without being given a reason. I also have yet to recieve my last paycheque from them and they won't answer my emails. It's not particularly hard work, just boring. The pay is medicore but the schedule is flexible and they provide the uniform (excluding footwear) and will reimburse you for taking the course(s). However, you will likely be frequently turned down on your requests for shifts, you need to use your own vehicle, will have shifts get cancelled, or have to stay past your scheduled time or not get your full shift in, there is no breaks, and they will constantly try to sell you their gear.

The schedule app sucks, they pay via cheque, and they will just about hire anyone who has any interest. You randomly get removed and added to shifts, and are expected to show up, or be fine with your shift being filled by someone else, but lord have mercy if you can't make a shift. Shifts range from 3 hours - 12 hours, sometimes longer, all for very low pay comparatively, especially coming from one of the few security companies where getting shot at or stabbed is fairly high, pretty much everyone has a horror story. They also have no benefits, or give you exactly under the amount of hours for benefits

This company has not even given their employees face masks to help protect themselves from Covid-19. Can you believe this?  Coupled with extremely low wages, this company CAN afford to provide their employees with the proper attire, including face masks. Their management drives around in a Porsche.  So don't tell me they cannot afford to give their employees all necessary equipment.  Oh, plus they don't even have direct deposit!  What a joke.

I enjoyed working with everyone they were all willing to give a helping hand. The pay is ok but after working at the lloyd exhibition this summer I was ripped off. I worked over 48 hours, 12 hour shifts and was only paid for 28. They told me they weren’t even sure if they had record of me working there or if they had gotten paid for my work. I have proof of my work in the nimble accounts we have to set up. Not to mention you have to pay for your course and a uniform deposit and don’t even get reimbursed for the course. Just a terrible company to work for in general

Long hours, for poor pay.
Employees are not trained, are quite often tired look like their uniforms are falling apart, and quite often not suited to working with the public.
Their office staff are merely there to hinder you, good luck getting any help, if you want to change something in your schedule due to family or emergencies they are very difficult to deal with.

Do yourself a favor and keep looking, hire a different company, you should be supporting businesses that care about their employees.

The people you will meet on various sites are decent and could be very nice to work with...But as soon as it comes to any form of management its a nightmare. They hire you fulltime with promise of 80 hours/bi but maybe deliver 50 at best and yet for $13/hrs when I have 8 years of experience and certifications. Any problem that arises is basically YOUR problem to deal with and figure out, SPI wont help.

Loved this company even though I had heard so much negative about them. 
The general staff is fin and amazing. Minus one supervisor who seems to think they run the show and is number 1. 
They don't allow you to take breaks even if you work a 12 hour shift (excuses are they are understaffed or are too busy)  and tend not to pay your overtime. 

They need better communication and supervisors who aren't on a power trip cuz of their position.
