First of all, you get paid depending how many flyers you deliver, and how many houses are on your route. For me, I was paid just over $120 a month, delivering to about 120 houses, each time. It took me about 2 hours to get 2 routes done every day, so do the math, and you’ll realize that you’re being paid way under minimum wage.

Also, the management is awful. The manager never updated their delivery lists, even when I told them houses didn’t want them, they wanted them or when there wasn’t even a house with the address. Whenever I did communicate with the manager, they used incomprehensible English, which I never understood. They always used shortened language, like, instead of “see you there”, they’d use “see there”. Terrible communication, and quite lazy.

Then there’s the other things that aren’t included that you have to have before you start working. You have to pay for a wagon, and a huge plastic bin for the delivery drivers to put the flyers in. In total, I spent over $85 getting started, only to realize that my first paycheck would barely cover the initial cost.

Finally, working in the winter is horrendous. You have to work through blizzards, storms and freezing cold weather. Even when it was -55° with the windchill, and when there were cold weather advisories telling people not to go outside, you HAD to deliver flyers, or you’d get fired.

On the positive side, it’s great if you want exercise, because walking 10km twice a week is leg-breaking. 

Overall, I wouldn’t work here. Pay is bad, management is bad and work conditions are bad.

I worked this job in elementary, and couldn't handle it myself. The pay was more than any 6th grade kid knew what to do with, about $400 per paycheck, which covered about a 3 block area. I worked during winter as well, and was constantly tired, so I found the job quite hard at the time. The job is good as far as supplementary income goes (I hear a lot of substitute teachers use it for their off time). I'm not sure as to whether I should recommend this job, so I'll keep neutral. Most of my information is old, and distorted, so take what I have said with a grain of salt.

Even if you’re just a kid, don’t do it. You’re paid under minimum wage, (I made like $7 an hour) to walk very long distances (between houses and up and down driveways). I walked like 8.5km for 2 routes per delivery in the freezing cold winter. Manager only sometimes responded to messages leaving me on read a couple times which is annoying, and they never made changes to my list even when I told her that a house didn’t even exist. Terrible. Don’t do it. You work for peanuts in terrible conditions under bad managers.

This ‘job’ is good for kids; assuming you hate your kids. It teaches responsibility and hard work for a low cost.  With the rising gas prices, you’re basically just wasting your time, and without a vehicle, you will get frostbite. Your reward for not getting beaten, robbed or kidnapped is 19 cents per paper. the distance between houses is expanding, as newspaper companies are dying.

I delivered papers for Star Phoenix as a kid and it was a great way for a younger me to make some pocket money. It was very casual and I only had to work 2 days a week. I would recommend paper delivery for children still in school, or retired adults with some extra time on their hands.

Great starter job for any kid especially because you can be underaged as a flyer courier.  If your kid is looking to prove they are responsible and they want to make some money this is a great start!!

You get to excersise! You get rewards if you do good every month. At winter it's hard to wake up and it's still dark! It hurts your back because you have to carry the newspaper.

The job in itself wasn't horrible but it's not the best experience for kids. I was 13 when I took this job and having to get up at 6 A.M every morning to deliver papers before school wasn't the best experience.

It was my job to deliver the papers before 7am every day. The communication was not that great some times between the coordinator and myself. It was a good way to earn money when you are younger though

I did not enjoy working for this company, I felt as though I was very under paid for what I had to do and it was not enough to just get by  was very stressful and I didn’t enjoy it
