STEWART MCKELVEY

I learned a lot at Stewart McKelvey.  I worked there 6 years in various departments and I believe that I showed my work potential and my experience.  I learned more about corporate work and other areas of law.  My favorite area of law has always either been family law or personal injury/civil litigation law.  The workplace culture is good but can be stressful in any law firm let alone a large one.  There are still the "clicks" like in any law firm I have been in or seen.  I was never a "click" type of person.  I have always been true to myself, I try to respect everyone and I don't look down on people.  The salary was excellent and the benefits were extraordinary at the time providing us with free medical coverage that was top of the line.  I greatly enjoyed the job there.

One of the issues is that, the training actually provided is VERY barebones. And once that is completed there is virtually 0 guidance as to how to actually do your job. Your co-workers who are supposed to explain to you what you are supposed to do feel very nagged about helping you, and so you are forced to do things you have no experience with. And that just causes frustrations for you and everyone around you. Being that you are on probation for 6 months, you feel like there is very little you can say and you're always peer pressured into doing things you sort of can't do. and that sucks.

Rude pre-madonna lawyers who talk down to assistants, heavy workload with high stress, terrible pay.  They wont provide a reference for future employers, so you're basically wasting years at a company and you'll have no reference.  I did a great job and made this firm a lot of money with my billable hours, but they treated me like a dog.  A bunch of snobs and ingrates.  Don't work there.  You'll regret it.

Generally Stewart McKelvey was made of great people. Any job is a job, but they made it a great place to work. 

Challenging, never dull though a bit slower moving compared to the technical world. 

My favorite part of the job was absolutely how everyone had a name, not just a designation. The culture was one of family, and it was a welcome experience to be part of that family.

The interview process consisted of a telephone interview first and then an "in-person" interview over Teams with the manager. It is a fast-paced environment and you have to be ready, willing and able to adapt and prioritize when work is delegated to you. Do not be afraid to ask questions. 

Great place.  Watch out for office gossipers.  They pay comparable to other places and do a lot for their staff.  Lawyers are lawyers.  Some are nice.  Some think the earth rotates because of them but you get that everywhere.  Keep your head down, do a good job and set your boundaries in the beginning you’ll do okay.

Friendly people, great diversity and inclusion, innovative, always people who are willing to help you, opportunities to learn more, challenging but fun and overall a great all-around place to work and I would recommend this workplace to anyone!  

Co workers were always willing to help you out.   It wasn't challenging job but love the learning curve.     Work day was like a new adventure.  Never knew what the could bring you.   I miss the everyone there.   Best work and place.

Stewart McKelvey is a diverse and very supportive company. The pay is average but workload is a lot. Nevertheless you will really learn and enhance your skills and knowledge. People here are 100% awesome. 

I worked a 10 week term as  a Legal Assistant.  I really enjoyed going to work each day.  I would have loved to stay on but I had to go back to school.
