My experience at Sungro was a very positive one.  This was a completely new line of work for me.  I enjoyed the new learning experience, working and communicating with carriers of all nationalities and cultures, preparing bills of lading, custom invoices and knowing how important the accuracy of my work was.  Keeping track of daily inventory and ensuring that is concurred with Navision at head office in Massachusetts.  I had the most amazing manager who was incredibly patient and informative about the company and its policies.  I was hired as a temp with the belief that I would be hired on permanently after my 400 hours.  Instead, we were all informed in Oct. that our facility in Niagara was closing in Nov. The hardest part of the job was familiarizing myself with the hundreds of products as I didn't see the product, I only saw the name of them on the invoices.  My co-workers were fun to work with as we maintained a professional level of communication as well as humour which made our time together enjoyable.

A typical day at work starts by getting instructions on what the tasks are to be done, one as to inspect and do preventive mantenences on the equipement so one may preform his or her tasks with the less interuption as possible. What I learnd is how to operater heavy equipment to exploit natural resources to help in agriculture. Management was in a restructuration so it was a bit on the confusion for the time but I can say they did there best with the situation at hand. The workplace culture was more on the masculine side and very productive, every one was happy to give an helping hand and hard at work, I really enjoyed who I was working with. The hardest part of the job was to pin the trailers to the tractors tho with a bit of elbow grease and little tricks, it all went well. The most enjoyable part of the job was the work it self, for some reason it is very enjoyable to drive a tractor at 6.4 KM/H. I really enjoyed that last job but just sad the season was not proper for the type of exploitation.

I loved the work I did at Sun Gro. No one is looking over your shoulder or demeaning you ever. Everything you need to know is taught to you and expectations are clearly laid out. You are responsible for yourself. The pay is fair for the amount of effort required and camp can be available to those who live out of town. Management will try to give you warnings if your starting to slip up for any reason before making it a company issue and team mates are always willing to help out. The days can be very long; the work is dependant on Sunny days and dry fields therefore one or two days of heavy rain could mean no work for a week or two then dry fields mean 1-14 hours days up to 3 weeks straight. I love being outside seeing nature and not being stuck in an office. I prefer spending time alone so hours in my tractor signing along to cd's is perfect and at the same time I can see all the other team mates in the field and can talk to them on breaks if I need a friendly ear.

Typical day was getting up super early, to go work out in the peat fields. I learned so much about tractors, peat moss, potting soil, minerals, lab stuff/tests, fire, etc!!! Management was a bit iffy at the time due to a LOT of drama throughout the entire plant, but otherwise they were quite decent with me. The hardest part of the job was mini plant as it was manual labour, bagging potting soil mixtures by hand, and when peat/soil is wet it can weigh up to 70+ pounds... I'm a little girl so it was EXTREMELY difficult. The most enjoyable part about the job was getting to the plant before anyone else did, getting the tractor out to the field and being able to watch the sunrise every morning while jamming out to my favorite music all day long. Truly, I wish I didn't have to leave because that was my favorite job I've ever had.

First thing salary is good benefits good friendly people to work with supervisors are awesome good hours good pay, machineries pretty well new

Safety is a big thing the environment Dusty but that is the job

Long hours, being happy, feeling safe with the people you work with

Barely any raises they expect you to work pay cheque to pay cheque. Loader operator wage on average is 24-32 but we aren't worth that. They say they value their employees when they don't, fixing cosmetics and worrying about management is top priority. 
They give you bonuses but tax everything so you don't actually get the full amount of anything. They let management rub in ours faces how much profit is being made but nothing going back to their employees

this company did not work long hours or have the best wage. The people that worked there were all very nice. I was an operator of a 644J John Deere Loader with a roll out bucket. I worked in the bog turning piles of pete moss and loading trucks. the mornings were very early but the days ended fast. I did enjoy operating and the company treated employees decently.

lot of fun with the co-workers super atmosphere to work in I was getting along well with everybody.
work on a production line and everybody were working in the same direction to get the most production out.

The main boss gives you different instructions then your supervisor and your co-workers. Terrible work atmosphere everyone was always talking about how they wanted to quit. And safety is not a concern here at all.
