Managers who will throw you to the wolves with inadequate training and PPE.
Toxic managers and work culture.
Viscously underpaid for what is expected of you.
Scheduling is all over the place with some staff getting very few hours or working a ridiculous number of hours. 

There is no Structure for support or proper benefits for Staff 
untrained staff working with high risk clients is often asking for an injury 

The work is also Highly physical to the point where you are expected to lift fully grown adults on a regular basis with what can only be described as hilariously bad training .

Any facility youre sent to work at is a mixed bag of clients and staff but 2 things remain consistent across all SMG sites, limited staffing and Poor management

By far the worst fault by a mile is when they change your shift without telling you they often change how long and when a shift is pretty constantly due to them giving hours and shifts to newer staff or they correct to solve the issue by simply calling. in fact prepare to get called to come in for extra shifts basically every 2 days 

To make matters worse ive seen nothing short of insulting low raises given out. Ive personally seen as low as 40 cents and as high as 1 dollar.


I’ve been working with the company for several years. Yes, the work is hard. Yes, the clients are aggressive but these clients have no where else to go. Every other agency has denied them a home. SMG takes them in to provide them the best possible treatment they can. Supervision is high. You always have a behavioural therapist and behavioural therapist assistant around for support. The residential coordinator works 24/7 for the staff and clients. There’s lots of support when you ask for it. 

Management is also nice. They aren’t nice to the people who are late, barely work, and abuse the clients - obviously. They offer extra training and additional support for everyone but sometimes people get hired who just need to go for the betterment of the clients. 

Management threw a BIG Christmas party at the Game Time Social! They paid for everyone’s food, drinks and games. How many companies will rent out places like this for you? They truly do appreciate and honour the staff as best as they can. The new COO has really been trying and doing amazing. This company is difficult but you learn / experience a lot. It’s not easy because the clients can be aggressive but it’s worth a learning experience. 

If you’re passionate about serving your community and offering support to individuals who need it most, Safe Management Group is the place for you. The work is challenging, there is never a dull moment, the work is physically demanding and there will be instances when your patience is tested. However, SMG ensures that you are prepared for these challenges by providing all the necessary training and equipment. As someone who now has some experience in this field, my honest opinion is that the pay is extremely fair and there is plenty of opportunity for additional compensation if you’re a team player and willing to work hard. If you’re a student or graduate in the fields of psychology, behavioural sciences,  criminology or related health sciences, a position at SMG is an amazing opportunity to gain experience in the field and have the potential to grow within the organization.

This company is by far the most toxic in the field and the least paying. The workload and responsibilities are way beyond the pay. 

Management will not treat you respectfully, they will ignore all of your needs and accommodation requests.

People who get promoted in this company are usually friends with managers and clinicians. No fair treatment and obvious bias. The company is full of POLITICS. 


The clients are very aggressive and the company doesn’t prioritize staff safety and mental health.

They perform a very hands-on intervention which is unique to them. But that just means you will be dealing with a lot of behaviours and aggression for the same pay as a normal support worker.

You will have 0 productivity as you are to follow the protocols letter by letter. And you will not be allowed to even make suggestions on how the treatment is going. 

My honest advice: if you value your career and life? Find something better.




Not a lot of positive feedback/appreciation from upper management. Quick to call people out on what they are doing wrong even if they do 100 things right. High turnover rate leads to inexperienced staff constantly being on the floor with no support - unsafe environment, can get hurt easily. Can be fun if you are with staff who support you but it is rare. A positive is that clinical team answer any questions when needed and are extremely supportive, but their schedule may not align with yours so it could be hard to ask in person questions. Working with clients can be rewarding but burnout is very common if you do not get tested on your first client quickly so that you can move on to a second. 

I've worked at SMG for about 4 years and have learned a ton. I started the job with the intention of gaining experience before going back to school for a related field, but ended up really loving the work. It's changed my entire career trajectory. If you're interested in this field than this is a great place to start. You learn a ton and there are tons of opportunities to advance for hard workers. The job can be stressful, but I found it to be so rewarding when you look at the progress the clients make. I loved working with both the clients and other staff at my location.

I’ve worked here for quite some time, and I could honestly say Management/HR have given me the outmost support for anything and everything. They were the most supportive people in my life. The job itself, it isn’t for everyone. It’s a high stress environment and you need to be prepared at all times. This place is great for anyone who is an adrenaline junkie or anyone who sees themselves in law enforcement. I do wish the salary/pay was a bit more so it could match the job description. but personally that was my only concern. I enjoyed my time when I worked there, I learned something new every shift I worked and you do get recognized for your hard work. 

SMG lets me book my own training sessions with groups of my choice. I choose when and where it fits into my schedule. I only communicate with SMG when I forward exam scores, evaluations and if I need to re-certify with them.

I teach a two day intensive course for training individuals and groups in non-violent crisis intervention and prevention. One day of theory and one day of physical intervention techniques.

I also teach a one day intensive re certification course for those needing it. A summary of theory and physical interventions are completed.

Safe Management Group provides residential treatment for clients with the most severe behavioural needs.  It is very challenging yet rewarding work with opportunities for employees to grow and advance within the company.  The work requires you to be focused, physically fit, patient and empathetic. If you work effectively in a small team dynamic where building trust in each other and working closely together are key, then this would be a great fit.  Again, it is demanding work but also very fulfilling.

Management listens and get vacations easily. Pay is good aswell.

Sometimes work can be too much but it gets compensated.

Amazing work environment and culture. Teamwork is just super great.
