Are typical day at work would be:

- starting 15 minutes or more before my shift and getting things organized and ready for the day before I clocked in. 
(Recommended by my manager... the district manager)
- following up with messages from upper management, other managers in the area needing help, price changes, store up to operational and loss prevention standards, team development, customer service, preparing and making report, preparing and shipping orders for businesses

- I advance my skills with selling techniques, customer service advanced training, product knowledge, further my knowledge in human resources, human rights, workplace standards, WCB implements, worker safety, politics of businessl

Unfortunately I found very little Resources as far as upper management non-political garbage. The successful managers in our area at the time had left coinciding with my leave. Being the area trainer in advancing my career so quickly due to my own professionalism and career drive, when I ran into shady dealings and Misrepresentation from upper management I unfortunately was used as the scapegoat when I personally had brought to light issues that I or my team was uncomfortable with.

My coworkers were great to work with as well as my team that I had built myself over the two years were wonderful and I still do references for them as well as the reach out to me still for professional and career advice.

The most enjoyable part of my day was seeing the benefits of my teams and myself hard work and drive pay off in regards to company rewards/incentives, 
international recognition, customer recognition and appreciation... even gifts!!! company wide recognition. . Etc.

The hardest part of the job was realizing that even though we were contributing to our full district and helping it to excel... And being use as examples to follow... Myself and my team we're still just numbers that were easily discarded.

HELPFUL TO KNOW..

Unfortunately because the district manager is best friends with Canada regional manager she has not been properly dealt with for her shady dealings whether coaching or other proactive avenues from outside industry  perspective.

I do wish you all luck at work in the Edmonton Alberta region and more. The company is really great and I personally apologize for any wrongdoing that this for riffic district manager has managed to do to a lot of great personnel.

If you have a choice to work for this company or not my recommendation to you is to never work for a company that doesn't realize your value. You will never be paid what you are worth ... you will never be given the opportunities for what you have done ... and as a society we need to stop supporting  companies like this that don't want to own up to their own shortcomings

I was a manager here and had become friends with other managers and they were all so absolutely stressed out and overwhelmed.  The staff are given minimal to no hours to be able to pay for their life but are expected to be available 24/7. There are absolutely no incentives to work for the company and upper mnagement expects employees at store level to be security, beauty advisors, marketing experts, change all price tags once a week, change all signage once a week, fix technical issues with electronics and the computers, unload stock, shelf stock, general house keeping such as clean bathroom and mop, roll over for every rude amd belligerent customer, be ontop of their own sales as well as the stores. The managers are forced to be the villians that upper management hide behind. They are given less than bare minimum hours for their staff and are expected to do all that the staff do ONTOP OF: hourly reports, weekly paperwork, ordering supplies, hiring, training, firing, merchandising,  overlooking staff, night shifts,  changing displays, delegating work, overseeing things are done as well as be accountable for everyones sales numbers and still attend ridiculously stagnant and ill informed conference calls in which more tasks are given.  Managent gets no help and are constantly threatened if they ask for any kind of guidance. Employee helpline does nothing. Oh but what they do provide is a mental health phone line....i wonder why.... the managers are forced to work off the clock and never get paid for overtime to be able to finish the ridiculous amount of work tney are given but are always questioned and pressured to bend over backwards for the company. The company would rather open more locations than provide resources for their employees. It is NOT WORTH YOUR MENTAL HEALTH TO WORK FOR THIS COMPANY. 

I often see people having a difficult time with their position at Sally’s, either due to poor management or working hours that don’t support their work/life balance. I have never run into this issue as the company provides you with tools for booking time off. Furthermore, I was never unable to request last minute adjustments or to leave early if there was nothing to do and the budget allows for it. Because I am in the management track, there are a minimum number of hours I am expected to work, which I am fine with. There are no part time managers in the company, to my knowledge.

Perhaps I got lucky that my district and training managers are really good people I can go directly to, I’ve always felt supported and able to discuss difficulties I am having. I have never been denied access to information or knowledge and learning. Admittedly, the higher up you reach the less support there is. But I believe this is more due to company requirements and driving results. Retail is a hard business, customers can sometimes be less than savory people. And managing is not a job suited to every person. 

There are aspects of the job I don’t love, such as meetings or having 2 hours before a huddle call to put together a week’s worth of commitments for myself to adhere to. I do work towards KPI goals and the entire team is helpful to one another. So perhaps in most cases it depends who you have around you. Having support when you need it can be the difference between loving and hating your job. There are difficulties but this is work, not play. I’ve never had a day at work where I feel like I don’t want to have this job. 

Management could be better, carelessness lead to associates feeling unwanted and unneeded eventually. This store goes through associates more than Walmart and Tim Hortons combined. Customers complained that they come in only on weekends to avoid the manager, also say they don't shop at this store at all when its the closest to them.
I really enjoyed the job in general. Being knowledgeable about alot of stuff makes you feel great. giving advice to stylists is fun. Being the first to get new products is the best thing about this job but the discount is poor. Customers at this store are  generally nice, but alot are not very nice and careless about store policies. Almost none of them actually watch their children in the store.
This store would not promote an associate for assistant manger and refused to make any associate full time because of the economy. This store is now run without any assistant manager which makes the environment even more stressful. Drama is caused when situations get emotional, which is often. The back room door is almost always closed which can get uncomfortable sometimes when situations get heated.
The equipment (till system ect.) is old and outdated and very hard to run. Associates are sometimes held accountable when till doesn't work properly.
Wage should be alot more for the demographic their looking for. Overworked and underpaid leads to mad associates. Hours are inconvenient and insanely inconsistent. 

the Job was great for a while, the environment got too much to deal with for the pay and hours i was getting.

My experience at Sally Beauty has been… okay. As a part-time employee, you do receive benefits, a flexible schedule, ample time off, and discounted products, etc. As a store, there is usually a lot of downtime, at least at my location. My coworkers were great; however, upper management and store management could use significant improvement. The district manager, in particular, is poor, to say the least, with frequent disrespect and disregard for staff safety.

I do not feel that the company has much regard for the well-being of its employees. The pay is low while expectations are high, you are essentially expected to act as a hairdresser without having the full knowledge or experience of one, as training only covers the basics of all aspects of hair. Sales quotas and “UPT” goals are unrealistic. Management expects high sales and a large number of items per transaction, and hours are often reduced or punished when these goals are not met.

The biggest issue for me is inconsistent hours and little consideration for outside commitments. There are many times when you are almost expected to be on call. Management often schedules only one or two people on busy days, and if someone calls out, you will be contacted and almost pressured to come in. There is very little to no opportunity for growth within the company, despite being told otherwise.

Honestly, the best way to describe how you feel as an employee at Sally Beauty is that you are just a number. There is very little recognition from management in many areas, such as positive reviews, highest ‘UPT’ top sales…ect, paired with consistently high expectations. 

My recommendation to anyone reading this is to think long and hard before applying to this company, most other retail stores are far better, in my experience.

A typical day at Sally Beauty Supply as a manager would be, coming in and starting with the morning paperwork, checking to make sure all totals from the previous day have no errors. Next would be making sure all the duties from the previous day have been completed by the staff members successfully to company standards, if they have not been completed, the staff member would be completing set task with help from their manager to make sure the employee has fully understood what has been requested and expected. Next would be assigning new tasks for the day making sure it's following the guidelines of the weekly routine as well as maintaining customer service. 

I have learned from Sally Beauty Supply that my strengths are completing tasks quickly and efficiently when given. I've learned that I'm a hands on learner and work better doing any tasks myself with assistance at first. I have great memorization skills and need little assistance once I have done a task 1-2 times. 

Becoming a manager has shown me what my strengths are however they have shown me what has been difficult at times which is delegating. Not taking all the responsibility of completing the tasks and giving other staff the opportunity to complete the daily tasks.

The most enjoyable part of being a manager would be creating a fun work environment for my team members and customers. Keeping the energy positive and being encouraging for my team and seeing them smile when they've done a task they haven't tried and have done it well. With customers, helping them achieve their goals and helping people feel good about themselves. It's a rewarding feeling.

Working at Sally's was great at first, and then new upper management came in. 
New DM and TM are trying to push out old staff and with the contrast between how it was before and how it is now, original staff are dropping like flies.

No opportunity for advancement and a complete disorganized mess. The company is so inconsistent and things change almost everyday. 
The upper management is also incredibly condescending- DM is no leader and possesses absolutely zero skills which someone in upper management should have. 

When new management came in they demoted us all to part-time so they could change our hours and give us as many or as little as they wanted. Upper management's solution for getting rid of someone is putting their hours at zero and making them quit. 

This is honestly just a dead end job. Maybe if management cared about their employees and recognized people who have put the time in at THEIR company, this would be a good place to work. Instead they treat their employees like idiots. Zero recognition, zero opportunity for advancement. Only work here if you're desperate for cash and don't plan on staying long-term. You are just a replaceable nameless figure here (DM can't even learn employee's names) who's only expectation is to make sales (Other stores with INCOMPETENT store managers are praised because they are in a busy location and make sales). It's a joke.

Only pro I can say is I made some awesome friendships working here and learned a lot but honestly that doesn't reflect on the company, it reflects on the other employees.

I have been a part time employee for 1 year.
In the beginning it was great.  The original manager that trained was awesome. I learned a lot and she was very supportive and considerate with employees.
New management is under qualified, lacks consideration, manners and respect .
Employees are pinned against each other and certain emoyees are favored above others.
Always pressured to tattle tale or snitch on another employee behind their backs and gossiping about them is and has become an artform.
Managers friends are in the back room periodically.

Always short staffed and very pressured at last minute to cover shifts.
Risky and potentially dangerous to work at night.
Good luck with approaching management your concerns, questions etc.
You will be turned away and ignored.
Threatened and intimidated with corrective action and reporting to the DM about common ,  petty mistakes instead of adressing it themselves.
Personal business is shared and gossiped about in the back room constantly and with customers.

Manager likes to befriend the younger employees to control them and then pins them against each other.
You will not be praised, motivated or recognized for your overall professional conduct but called out on anything that is irrelevant to your shift.
Bullying, ego and power tripping is the focal point of management.
Very dissapointed.
I would not recommend working in such a catty, unethical environment.
Apply to a more professionally run business.

Really enjoy working for the company and for the interactions I get to have on a daily basis with all different types of people, including the rude customers because the good always outweighs the bad.  Don’t really care for the free products. You do not get ANY basic benefits/insurance as a part time employee (which is terrible considering one store is able to make $2000-$8000 thousand selling small product in a single day?). The raise is very little and only happens once a year 6 months from your date of employment and it’s only a 5-10 cent raise. The employees are the reason the company is making money AT ALL. As they tell you in training to “keep the customer coming back for more.” Give a little more recognition and praise to the people who make the brand what it is. They are the reason that the company is even thriving. Money hungry, cut hours, no benefits, very inflexible scheduling. Difficult to even get a day or two off due to low amount of employees because the company is cheap and doesn’t want to pay employees.  The management is terrible, nothing is organized, poor communication and constantly gossiping about customers and even THEIR OWN employees. I guaranteed sound like a person that absolutely HATED their job but all in all, loved working in the environment but Sally’s Beauty as a whole, is a no from me. 2 whole stars for the work environment! There are better jobs out there with better opportunity and praise for you.

I worked for CosmoProf for a very long time. Things were amazing until a new DM was hired for my territory about 10 years ago. Upper management is the only problem with this entire company. They care nothing about you as a human being and your personal life and think that you should live, eat, breath, sleep CosmoProf just like they do. If you don’t, your life will be made miserable and you will walk around with a huge target on your back. Upper management makes it a point to lie, make up stories, push people to quit or fabricate situations so they can write you up until they get rid of you. And don’t even think of taking any sick leave!! Got a medical condition? You better hope you won’t need time off! 
The pay is also garbage for what you are required to do. They pile on the work with no notice and no exceptions, yet expect more work for the same pay. Don’t expect a big raise even if you’ve put in years with the company either. Loyalty means nothing to this company. I once received a .03 cent raise. The difference in pay from a part time employee to a manager is literally only $2/hr. Absolutely impractical wages for anyone to survive on their own without another form of income. 
The experience was great and the customers and staff are all amazing. 
Just don’t expect much for what is needed of you. Definitely, 100%, not worth it.
