SSP was a real bummer to work for and falls short in so many areas that make up a good job. I spent nearly a decade here hoping to see brighter days within the company but it only got dimmer.

With no real values outside production and profit, poor leadership is created and rewarded and that is where SSP fails. Occasional harassment and disrespect towards production employees and disregard for their safety made it real hard to last and is the main contributing factor for low morale and high turnover.

A few things I enjoyed is the schedule being 4 on 3 off, was a nice drive in from any nearby town, pretty good health benefit package with Blue Cross, and there are a lot of awesome people employed here. You'll find it an easier place to work if you're self-motivated, level-headed, safety conscious and know your rights! You'll need them.

A typical day consist of 10 hours of strenuous work, flipping sheets, grading  and laying up core. It has taught me how to work well as part of a team of individuals of all sorts of ethnic backgrounds. I have also learned to always put forth my best effort and how to work well in positions of authority. The management consists of hard working individuals dedicated to safety and staff appreciation. The team of workers consists of an array of personalities whom I have great appreciation for and take great pleasure working alongside. The hardest part of my job is the repetition. Every day is the same. I want to feel excited to go to work and prefer a job where I can help and interact with people. The most enjoyable part of the job is when I see plywood stamped with the company logo being used in construction in my home city, Kamloops.

Based on my experience, this was not a healthy workplace. The main issue was the work culture. Disrespectful behaviour and bullying seemed to be tolerated, and management did not handle concerns properly. Communication was poor, expectations were not always clear, and employees did not always feel supported or treated fairly. The pay may be okay for some people, but the environment made the job difficult. I would not recommend this workplace unless management takes bullying, respect, and employee concerns much more seriously.

A typical work day is working with others that have no sense of pride in there job or work place after years of being run down by management. This job is good for some one that needs to make money and can put there head down and just do the job like a automated robot, having a opinion here will go no where as management will not hear you out as they are set in stone in there own ways. Safety here is never the number one priority as production takes over all. On the bright side if you can make all this work it’s an ok place but no long term as it’s not great for your over all health mentality and physically.

Fast paced environment , can get to some people. Maintaining such an facility can be stressful at times

The culture is as good as the people want it to be but the kids this day are self entitled so some may say different

Busy, and very rewarding working with a diverse group of people and equipment

My co workers were awesome! A great fun working environment.

Was the drive from Kamloops to Savona in the winter.

Fun and relaxed. Employees are always welcoming.

I did payroll so ensuring that time was entered correctly and making adjustments as required.

Working in a group of four in a fast paced environment. Our objectives are
to manufacture many different types of specialty plywood. This plywood is used all over the world in constructing such venues as:

Pearson International Airport in Toronto
Condos in Vancouver across from Rogers Place
And many others across the world

Job Duties:
- Effectively Grading/Fixing/Laying Veneer
- Checking and recording glue spreads, adjusting glue volumes
- Maintaining a safe and clean work environment

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
make plywood go home and repeat, the more stations you learned yhe better yhe day

constant on the go, scheduled brake times and supervisors available if needed. I learned how to work in a very large site making pour form plywood. was trained on the Coe and Raute Infeed to the dryers. I was able to trouble shoot and use instrument panel to run the Coe and Raute. I also was able to train others to run the machines. It is a physically demanding job. the pay was ok.

Very relaxed atmosphere with a lot of good people working there

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Has a mill right on night shift chasing whistles you were by yourself to keep the mail running which in turn puts a lot of pressure on you
