I started at a wage lower than what most McDonald's workers make, working for a man who manages more assets than most small banks in Canada. A collaborative, flexible work environment was described to me but never materialized. Despite company wide mandates, on top of provincial mandates that required us to work from home the company was entirely unprepared to support staff who were doing so (all of them). I got no feedback, no coaching, and had no clear communication of expectations from management, even when asked. It was a complete and total waste of time, and I think I actually unlearned skills during my experience there. This company methodically and systematically crafts the conditions designed to make you fail. You'd be significantly better off (financially, mentally) with room to improve in companies that are widely known to treat their employees poorly. Don't waste your time.

Working at ScotiaMcLeod as an Assistant Branch Manager, no day was the same.  You come to the office in the morning and complete the daily things that need to be done.  You might also have things that didn't get done the day before or urgent items that came up that morning that need your immediate attention.  Throughout the day as an Assistant Manager you would deal with different responsibilities and wear many hats at all times.  I enjoyed that role, I loved the challenge and the learning that came with the job.  In the financial industry you never stop learning new things, which kept me on my toes at all ties.  The people in my office were amazing and I treated them like my second family.  We all worked very hard but we also had fun when time permitted.

The culture revolves around one-team, one-goal and everyone contributes to that way of thinking.  

My usual workday consists of a variety of different tasks coming from different directions and requiring immediate resolution.  I am the technology point person for our department as well as the administrative assistant.  I enjoy working on projects and it is great when I am given the opportunity to juggle the project along with my daily responsibilities.  

One aspect I do not enjoy is if I am not as experienced with something and I fall short of expections, I am not given a chance to learn.

Throughout my years working for Scotiabank, the greatest aspect of the job was the work environment. Great people, great management, overall amazing place to work. Like all jobs, there are some downsides; like the commute into the city, but the remaining factors made up for all the negatives. Work days were steady, and routine was easy to follow. Working with Scotia taught me all I needed to know to succeed in an analytical job market, and while there were some stressful moments the overall time I invested in the company was genuinely worth it.

Worked there in the middle 90's when Scotia Bank took over it became the worst place to work! Long hours, no recognition for it! All management are best friends outside the office clicks!! Not one of them then you're just not part of the IN group!  
It was a stressful place to work! Lots of people coming and going! People didn't hang around long!

Great work hours and a friendly team but also lacking the appropriate tools/resources to get certain tasks done effectively.

If you want to leave, they will try to keep you.
Nonetheless, most of the people choose to leave and feel happier elsewhere.

You need to be a highly organized person who can work independently while keeping your Client's happy.  The hardest part of the job is balancing home life with work life. Too many external factors beyond your control affects employment sustainability.

Prudent and cautious with change and risks
Great work life balance
Great level of autonomy and stable organization
Strong leadership and stewardship

Managers are completely detached from "rookie" brokers who are left on their own to manage large and complex portfolios. Dog eat dog environment where there is no team work or comaraderie.
