A Typical Day at Work:
Even though the job is remote, the management makes it unnecessarily stressful. Clear communication is lacking; employees are often left without proper guidance or support.
What I Learned:
Unfortunately, I learned more about how to deal with toxic leadership than valuable anything for career growth. There's no real investment in employee development.
Management:
Terrible. Insulting, dismissive, and unprofessional. There's apparent favoritism, and concerns about discrimination or workplace issues are ignored. Instead of fostering a positive work environment, they create a culture of fear and disrespect.


Every Tuesday is set as a Scout meeting day in which many children and adults gather to follow the scout handbook and learn various skills for camping use. The management is mainly planned by the Scout leaders. However, the scouts propose the most ideas based on their preferences and hobbies. The debates and the planning of the camps tend to be tedious since many camping venues tend to be booked full really fast. There are many schedules that coincide and we are forced to cancel some of the plans that were made. Overall, the kids learn to self-improve based on self-regulation, planning, and be able to adapt to certain situations that put them in disadvantages. After the planning, the fun parts will allow everyone to be relieved from the stress and all's well that ends well!

Scouting is a very nice program to go thru as a kid, helps you get your community service hours as a teenager, and allows you to pass on that same experience to the others who follow after you. Great leaders in the First West Shore Scouts group. You get to learn many life and survival skills. A program I believe every youth should go thru. Unfortunately youth are not as interested in it anymore, as well as Scouts Canada's board seems to be in it for themselves and do not care about the actual program and groups anymore.

Little on-boarding outside of HR was done. 

I was given a budget but the budgeting was off. For example for $50 more campers could come for two weeks. One week program cost hundreds of dollars so that did not make much sense. 

I was told there would not be property maintenance issues in returning but ended up without a critical building. I was told this was not my problem - but without this building I could not run camp. 

Very little support from management. Supervisor had not even been on the site before. He should have been there to welcome me to the property. 




Although I haven't had really any experience; I am trying to get my very first job and learn new things and work different jobs to see what I actually am interested in. how could I get a job for my life without an experience? I am very willing to try anything and give it my 100%. with scouts Canada I volunteered and I like working with children there so upbeat and fun to play with and I enjoy learning what they know, I mainly helped them with there crafts singed and danced with them, I also prepared some neat crafts and they enjoyed that very well.

Working with the volunteers was great, and local management was fantastic, when we had some.  Like always in Alberta, Ottawa (head office) screwed us.  They did a study to find out we were all under paid, even for a non-profit, so instead of giving raises, they slowly fired us one by one, making each day more stressful than the last until all our jobs were moved to another city, the building sold and all local volunteers having to do everything online instead of in person.  All after months of promises that our jobs were safe.  

The whole work environment focuses on personal growth and ways to achieve, some tasks may seem daunting but they help you grow as a person. The best co-workers in the world, always have your back and always willing to lend a helping hand. Overall very organized with breaks being given accordingly daily and staff well-being is one of the top priorities. Training is clear and overall felt well prepared, the senior staff are always looking out for you and help whenever needed. Amazing place to work.

I was responsible for all reservations made at the camps, booking the rentals as well as following up with payments. 
Also as part of my responsibilities assisting the Property Manager I would assist with all general maintenance of the camp including, infrastructure, mechanics, construction, forestry, building maintenance, and accounting/book keeping

Scouts Canada provides opportunities for the youth of all ages to get out and explore the outdoors with camping trips and outdoor exploration. Scouts Canada helps out the community by raising funds through donations and door to door sales where all proceeds go towards planting trees and hosting events for the local communities. Being apart of scouts Canada helps youth build on their skills and help to better improve their selves as members of the community.

My Scouting career afforded me many great opportunities for learning and growth.  For example, I learned the importance and personal satisfaction of volunteering my time, the importance of community involvement, listening and learning skills, planning and preparation, leadership training, and many practical skills – all reinforced by participating in the ample opportunities offered to put these skills into practice.
