During my time at Screwfix I managed to progress to the position of assistant manager within three years of working with the company.

The daily asks of an assistant manager is to run the store if the branch manager is not present or to work along side them while they are there to lead the team of sales assistants to drive sales while serving customers and ensure they are accurately putting new stock away in the warehouse.
The management team also undertake daily and weekly cash and stock checks to ensure that the store is running smoothly and that there are no major issues regarding those fields.
Assistant managers also play a part in the recruitment within the store such as interviewing and training new staff and reviewing there performance on a regular basis. As well as that they take part in the recruitment assistant managers take part in the disciplinary side of the job such as issuing warnings and following up on people issues with the employee relations team.

I have learnt a great many things working for Screwfix, for example I have learnt effective people management skills and feel I can get the best out of my teams.
I have also learnt about the many procedures are in place while a store is open including all of the cash and stock investigation processes.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Good team that work well together 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Not stressful at all, can get busy at times but that's all part of it and everyone chips in

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Excellent on the whole but you'll always get that one employee who thinks they don't have to work as hard as everyone else, they're there to get on everyone's last nerve

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Great, you get to meet lots of customers you know that are in the trade throughout the day, helping them best you can, busy at times but it all works nicely

There is a huge lack of people skills among many Screwfix store supervisors and some managers due to the historical culture of promoting people at a very young age regardless of management  skills . Bullying is common and swearing in front of customers has been witnessed on a good number of occasions . As a result lazy younger staff get away with minimal effort leaving  staff with a good work ethic to do most of the work . I spent two years working in two different stores and helping out in a few others. It was the same story in most stores

Screwfix middle and upper management seem to have a massive distaste for the lower level employees, despite them providing nearly all the labour. They will grant spending for outings, lunches etc for management whilst simultaneously cutting hours for the rest of us. Allocation of hours between stores is also broken - as tore regularly achieving above target will receive the same level of cuts as a store under performing, increasing pressure on a usually already strained workforce. Fine to work here for a few months but nothing over a year as there is no loyalty for long term staff

First starting with screwfix was excellent. The culture and people were great. But over time the company grew and people were just a resource. 
Silly working expectations and expectations were different depending on who your were. Favouritism is certainly the way with screwfix. And what ever you do don't have a second job or involved hobby as that just won't do! Get a job here means they own you. 

As an ex supervisor, the job was sold to me as the best in the world, when all it did was massively intrude on my private life, my rota got changed up to 5 times a week, manager was, like all managers only looking out for himself. If your face fits, it fits, if not... Your gone.
Defiantly not as fun as everyone makes out.
We had a massive staff turnover. All because of the managers... Very clicky. Avoid... B&Q seems better. Screwfix like you do only smile and be happy

Meet new and regular customers daily, build rapport with them.

Learn A LOT about the Trade, electrical and plumbing knowledge obtained whilst working.

Management is great and very accommodating with shifts.

Staff and workplace culture is excellent, feels like a little family.

Hardest and most enjoyable part of the job are the customers.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The people, the culture,  the managers are always accommodating. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The workload can be a lot but it’s always manageable so I like keeping busy. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Really nice atmosphere but I work in head office. Not in stores.

God forbid you are a young female supervisor. Treatment from branch manager has been shocking. Sexist and two faced. Most SA's stab you in the back, very sneaky group of young lads who themselves are disgusting, have no respect for anyone, yet it is supervisors who get taken to the office. Shocking behaviour. Better off as an SA. Why earn £100 more when you get treated like dirt

Always working with great people and a team that got along really well. Manager was always accessible and just one of the guys, no real sense of hierarchy within the store just a group of people working hard together. Does get busy and stressful during peak times but nothing unmanageable. The company really cares for their employees
