A typical day at work as a beauty advisor would be sitting down our clients in our makeup chairs, giving them makeovers as we guide them through the process and teach them fast and easy techniques. Beauty advisors are also required to recruit clients from different departments and introduce them to our products all while keeping in mind what they would like to enhance in their complexion. Most importantly, a typical day at work would be to sell and reach your daily goals. At the end of the day, closing cash and cleaning your surroundings is necessary to complete your shift. 

By Working at Sears as a beauty advisor, not only have I learned what the products do to the skin, I have also learned how to interact with my clients, build a relationship and insure great costumer service. Working at Sears has also taught me how to organize my client files, keep in touch with my clients and file all information needed to plan events and promotions. 

Sears has been through a various number of different management since I have worked for the company. Nevertheless, every manager I have encountered at my job is hard working, welcoming and encouraging. Sears managers take their jobs very seriously and push their employers to do the best they can in order for the company to rise to its highest potential. As for our co-workers, it is very nice to work in a place where people are professional, sales driven, friendly and supportive. 

The hardest part of this job is to reach your targets during promotion as you are required to reach high numbers. Although these targets are reached most of the time, it is a stressful period. 
The most enjoyable part of the job is the interactions and the relationships I build with my clients. I genuinely enjoy creating friendships with these customers. Another element i enjoy from my job is giving makeovers to my customers. This gives me the opportunity to build a new relationship with a client I've never had before and also allows me to show them skills and techniques of applying makeup they have never seen before.

Start by unloading and loading trucks as well as scan the products and placing them in logistical order. Put the products out on the sales floor and have them shelved. Clean up the cardboard and pick up customer orders. When customers come to pick up their orders, paperwork is signed and then placed into their vehicles. Sales associates occasionally call whether or not certain products are in stock or if they need help with department arrangement. UPS and cosmetic trucks come almost everyday and the products are to be scanned and recorded then put out on stock. Everyday after the unloading is finished we sort the overstock and large stock products in alphabetical order. Loss prevention checks the stocks from time to time to see if the inventory is recorded accurately and nothing is stolen. The management wasn't very good at keeping up with their standards. Too much product was always shipped to the receiving docks and there was always too much overstock and we always had to have workers overstocking the shelves. The management lost a lot of money because they were not focusing on these certain issues. The co-workers in my department were all hard workers, we would get the job done but also help out the sales associates because out store was very understaffed. The hardest part of the job was always having to manage the tasks you were assigned and also having to help customer orders or complaints. There have been many times I had to work by myself in the department and having to multitask was very difficult because there were too many things going on. I had to push myself all the time just to keep everything to flow smoothly. I think the most enjoyable part of the job is having to meet all different sorts of customers and being able to push myself and showing my manager that I can be independent even when I am under stress. What I learned while working at Sears is that management is not always perfect and that not all customers can be dealt with. I also learned of new ways to move heavy objects without injury but also showing I have a strong work ethic.

During a typical day at work, I am opening Sears financial credit card accounts for customers and helping them complete their Sears credit card monthly payments. I answer the customers' questions and help find the items they are searching for while treating them with kindness and respect before completing the clients' sale/return transactions at the cash counter. I make sure the clients have their mechandise at the best/accurate price. I also replace any merchandise by the cash counter in their rightful places and sometimes stock the items directly after receiving a shipment. I answer phone calls from fellow employees at many Sears companies and customers at home. I count the money in cash register when opening and closing the store. I keep the area in and around the cash counter clean and keep necessary work supplies on hand daily. I also deposit the money bags in the safe at the end of the night.

It was at Sears, with the help of my co-workers and managers where I learned all of my above tasks, as well as how to appropriately speak with clients and how to handle the problems they sometimes face. I slowly learned the best way to sell what a Sears card has to offer to a customer and have become one of the top three employees who open a numerous amount of credit cards for the company.

I believe that the hardest part of my job is knowing how to rightly handle some Sears clients. It can get rough sometimes when it falls down to "the right price" or having to refuse to reimburse an item that is in bad shape. Also, it is tough to sometimes handle the different day to day shifts; working early morning one day and then late in the evening the next day sometimes confuses the body.

I have to say that the most enjoyable part of my job is definitely my coworkers at my proper cash. We have all grown close after helping each other out and learning new things together. It's a nice feeling of being a family. I really enjoy my time with them.

A typical day at Sears Portrait Studio consisted of checking the client list for the day to confirm no cancelations. Cold calling people about deals and promotions for the studio and trying to get them to book an appointment. Going out of the studio and into the Sears store to inform customers of promotions and get them to book appointments with the studio. Cleaned and organized the studios before clients arrived. Once a client arrived you would greet them introduce yourself confirm what the purpose of the shoot is (example; Birthday, Christmas card, Updates...) an average photo shoot took approx 25 - 35 mins to shoot and edit. Edits included black and white photos, sepia photos, creating collages, creating cards and announcements. Once the photo shoot was completed you would then sit the client down to show them all of the photos and edits you would gage their response to the photos and see how many they liked then offer them packages.

The staff and manager were friendly.

The best thing about the job was being able to take photos everyday. I graduated college for photography so this was perfect for me. The worst thing about Sears was the position I applied for said seasonal when I asked what exactly that meant (I never worked a seasonal job before) I was told it was during the christmas season mostly full time but a few people would be asked to stay on after the season as part time. I worked there for three months full time and on call they asked me to stay late almost everyday and call me in constantly at first I didn't mind since I needed the money but it soon became a constant annoyance having to cancel my personal plans and reschedule my appointments because they asked me to stay late or come in early. After the christmas season I was sure i'd be one of the employees who was asked to stay on since I had a background in photography and sales, I was never late for work and always agreed to stay after work come in early when they really needed someone. Sadly my manager decided not to pick me and went with a   employee she had become friends with.

A typical day at Sears Canada is short-lived. I worked on the merchandising team and typically most of the staff is part-timers as Sears Canada is moving away from full-time status positions as it is cheaper to hire several part-timers versus full-timers. You would typically be only scheduled during truck days and a day prior to advertisement set-up (changing signs in the store to reflect next day sales). Usually you get anywhere from 1-8 skids daily with merchandise that needs to be stocked. There is usually 1 individual in each department stocking product whereas 2 in larger departments like men's or women's fashions. There is quite a lot of pressure on you to finish quickly in short 4-6 hour shifts as it is rare getting a full shift during the day.

Learned about the various sales during the Sears Canada calendar year such as Sears Days, Clearance Sales, and etc. Used the computer terminal to search products up and typically can see if the product is going to be on sale within a 2-week period. 

I had 1 Manager and 1 Supervisor. My manager was really experienced and knowledgeable about her job and had no problems interacting with her. I had no problems with my supervisor either. 

Excellent co-workers. Many of the older co-workers in-charge of various departments were very knowledgeable and were able to teach and educate me very well when I began working at Sears Canada during my first few weeks. 

The hardest part of the job was being guaranteed enough hours on a weekly basis. 

The most enjoyable part of the job was being able to manage my own department. I was in charge of the Housewares department and assisted several other departments once all job tasks and duties were completed. 

The wage wasn't really good during my time of employment. It was $10.25 for the 3 years I was employed there and Sears Canada did not have yearly raises. 

There wasn't much opportunities for job advancement considering the few number of positions that were available.

I worked in call center selling maintenance contracts all across Canada. Sold contracts on appliances, lawn garden and tools. Sears had the top maintenance contracts for there customers. I learned so much through the company. Telephone etiquette skills time management skills and most importantly how to because team player and team leader. I worked in office with 150 co-workers per shif and had the best experience with co-workers we all were like family. 

Sears is very family orientated environment. was the best experience of my life. Management in office was great we had team leaders whom where supervisor.  They where there to provide help if we ever had trouble with customers. There was 1 supervisor per 20 people. This job was high pressured sales and always exceeded my expectations of my managers. I would say the hardest part of job was it was high presured the more you sold on the floor the more money you as individual made. This department was a multi-million dollar company ranging anywhere to 26-35 millions just in our department alone. It was unfortunate that our department had to experience closure. 

They still have there department in Montreal but shut down Hamilton's department. This was an amazing company to work for. The most I enjoyed was the co-workers. We all stuck together like family. We still have reunions get together and we never let that go. Sears helped me grow as a person helped me expand my strengths and improve on any weakness that I may had. Now I am ready to expand my knowledge and help another company flourish and take on any challenges that may come my way.  Last but not least thank you Sears for everything.

I start the day logging on computer into my designated work area and warming up with some light duties, getting ready for the day. 

Management will take the time to speak to the entire team and let them know any mistakes the previous day and how to improve, or they will tell you information you will need that day which can be many things. 

This is a very big warehouse that deals with all Canadian provinces and there is many small details that can confuse a person who isn't familiar with this. 

The manager DO NOT TRAIN ANYONE EVER! its left up to employees who are just trying to do their job but they are burdened with having to train people, which would not be so bad if turnover wasn't so high. When you have to repeat the same thing over and over to a dozen people every year it gets tiring. 

The Co workers who are helpful to tell you things are the only thing keeping this company alive. The people I learned the most from have been lifelong Sears employees. 

Hardest part of the job is not making mistakes because you haven't properly been trained or getting a write up for breaking some arbitrary rule when you are just trying to do your job. People will keep their head down and never talk or want to learn new things because all that means is higher chance of interacting with toxic management.

Most enjoyable part of the job is the satisfaction at the end of the day from doing an honest days work, chatting with many friendly people and having lots of fun, making jokes and enjoying life with a real family of co workers. They also have free BBQs.

60 day review was late, given 2 weeks just before 90 day review. same thing with 30 day review, was also late. 
expected to have knowledge of the engines, the amount of horsepower, luggage, sports equipment, seasonal items etc.
expected to get customers to sign up for credit cards, 1 credit sign up for every 20 customers/ transactions or get laid off.
sometimes, when asking for a manager to help, they would walk off and scribble another managers' name on a piece of paper while a customer is swearing on the phone at you and wanted to get a manager.
Other people who kept calling in sick were not addressed. 
Some preferential treatment.
Gossiping in lunchroom inevitable, even if you don't take place, you'll walk in sitting and someone will be the target of discussion.
10.25/ hour to start and non-negotiable. there are people who have not had raises in 5 years.
was told only negative on the reviews, which is very against every reference and other job experience held.
I didn't have high expectations and they were re-affirmed. 
If you attend the meetings, any valid criticisms will be taken as a 'personal attack' even when they are suggestions to improve customer experience.
Any complaints (numerous) will be directed to the 1800 4my home number, sometimes they do not know what parts to order.

to call first aid, one time, it took 7 phone calls, none of the others had a key to go get a kit, about half hour wait. ironically, there is a health and safety bulletin board.

even Boston Pizza pays more, and you don't have to do any of the above.

I would arrive at 5:45 each morning to make sure that I had everything that I needed to proceed with the tasks that were set for the day.

Starting at 6:00 am I would ensure that each display in my section had the proper signs and items coincidence with the sale.

Each day at 9:00 am we would meet in the center of the store and go over sales from the previous day, and set goals to surpass the sales from the previous day. In the meeting, and questions, concerns or suggestions would be addressed.

From 9:30 am - 2:00 pm was typically making sure aisleways were clear of clutter, and misplaced objects were returned to their rightful places, along with assisting customers were they to have any queries on; where to find something, or if they wanted to return an item, and cashing out.

Around 2:00 pm - 7:00 pm we would make sure the back stock rooms were neat and organized for the shipments due the next day, while also ensuring that nothing was out of place, easy and safe to access were one of us not there the next day.

From 7:00 pm to closing we would empty and tally the registers while leaving no more than $200.00 in the register for the next day.

All of my co-workers got along with eachother and we would try to help out one another if one of our stock for the day was vastly larger than the rest of us.

Management was dedicated to keep a funtional content workforce, making sure everything was getting done in an orderly manner and no one was behind schedule.

I was employed as a Sr. Manager for the Corporate Contact Centre for Sears Canada.   I loved my job, the opportunities I was provided and the skills and knowledge I was able to acquire.  Working for Sears Canada for fifteen consecutive years was comparable to a five year business degree.  The volume and complexity of the work strengthens your character and you become a more efficient individual with a greater confidence post experience based on the successes you achieved. 
Management is very involved in defining and achieving strategic plans both for the present and the future; as the Sr. Manager for Talent Acquisition (previously Sr. Manager of Learning and Talent Acquisition), every day was a learning opportunity both from a knowledge and personal growth perspective.  The challenges of working at Sears (lack of up to date technology, lack of staffing), I perceived as an opportunity for the Management Team to become very creative in implementing solutions and overcoming business challenges while still delivering best of best service to clients and customers.
