I joined this company as a claim examiner after working at ICBC as an injury adjuster for 2 years. Despite my previous work experience was relevant, I did not get the same level pay nor got even a chance to negotiate for my salary. The company advertises "family-like" atmosphere as their primary show-off. But the reality is, that atmosphere is gone since Toronto Office took over majority of insurance operations in 2021. Now the "family-like" atmosphere has become more "family-feud micromanagement." Employees generally did not want to bother help on others. Most of employees were busy with only doing "their" duties, no one else's. If you ask them to do something out of their job scope, you get a manager's email about official procedure change after 30 minutes you get a reply from the employee who agreed to help you. A typical company that will backstab you.

The work itself was very monotonous and easy to master; anyone with any claim experience will be able to handle all types of claim after working in the position for 1 year. That being said, there is barely any room for promotion; the other option you got as a claim examiner is to become a manager.

The only good thing about this company was the benefit package. And even then, the company tried negotiating for the package with slightly worse coverage every year.

I am very satisfied working at Securian Canada. The work‑life balance here is truly wonderful, and the company genuinely cares about its employees. One of the things I appreciate most is Securian’s strong EDI policy, which makes everyone feel respected, supported, and included.
Securian’s name in the market is growing and being recognized more every day. The company continues to win new products and clients, which shows how strong and dependable the organization is. It feels good to be part of a company that is moving forward and succeeding.
I would absolutely recommend Securian Canada to my friends and family. It is a great place to grow, feel valued, and build a rewarding career.

Fast pace and at times a high workload; however you are never bored and always learning

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very respectful, with a genuine approach to treating people as people.  Went in skeptical, but was pleasantly surprised. Great people, meaningful work that challenges me and expands my skills, plus a flexible, supportive culture with approachable senior leadership at Securian Canada.

This company is small in scale and competes well in the marketplace due to its strong and well planned out marketing strategies to attract new business.  Fact paced environment with great folks delivering fantastic service to its customers day in, day out.  Having to make difficult decisions and at times having to decide to let someone go is very tough, and not fun to do.

Employees are not allowed to voice their opinions and there is  never flexibility. Management does not care if you have family obligations outside of work. Lack of empathy and understanding in that company even if you exceed departmental goals.

Job is meant for single people with no obligations outside of work.  

The environment is hostile and people are consistently prying into personal life affairs. The management has recently changed and this took a turn for the worst. Overall work community is terrible and it's a job you don;t want to stay for long in.

There are good people here, but there is no vision or direction from senior leadership, at least that has been made transparent to employees. Lack of a
Cohesive vision on what this company is. The pay is fair and benefits are competitive. Oversight from parent company can make it difficult to get things done.

One of the c suite installed her personal friends in senior leadership roles despite lack of qualifications. These people have questionable leadership skills and push unreasonable timelines and work down, treating staff like nameless numbers. They're busy going to award ceremonies and linkedin posts instead.

Relaxed culture, great adaptation to working from home
Limited advancement opportunities, limited guidance.
Woke culture, the HR people run the show and force their beliefs onto people who just want to work
