I have been employed as a security guard at a Mall in Toronto for the past two years under the aegis of Security Guard Group Limited and I must admit, the experience has been primarily positive, enough for me to rate it a 4-star experience.

The first thing that stands out about this company is the thorough and professional training provided. It's extensive, well-structured, and ensures we are all equipped to handle a broad spectrum of situations we may encounter on duty. This gave me confidence in my abilities and helped me understand the seriousness of my role.

Working at Yorkgate Mall, our team has handled everything from shoplifting incidents to emergency evacuations with a firm yet respectful approach, thanks to the protocols laid down by my direct supervisor Sohail. In addition, we have the opportunity to interact with diverse individuals daily, which I consider a learning experience in itself.

Employee benefits and compensation are above average for the industry. The company genuinely seems to care about its employees' well-being, offering health benefits, a decent vacation policy, and regular salary increments. Also, working hours are generally respectful of a work-life balance.

One of the aspects I particularly appreciate about the company is the open communication. Our supervisors are approachable, ready to listen, and quick to act on feedback. This open dialogue encourages a sense of community and teamwork, making the work environment enjoyable.

The only reason I have refrained from giving a full 5-star rating is due to the occasional requirement of handling extended shifts. These shifts can be strenuous and tend to disrupt work-life balance. I understand the need for flexibility in the security business, but I believe there's scope for a better-structured shift system to prevent burnout.

In conclusion, Security Guard Group Limited provides a supportive and professional environment for its employees, and I would recommend it to anyone seeking a career in security. There's always room for improvement, but as it stands, it's a solid company with a clear commitment to its employees and their growth.

Working with Security Guard Group was one of the best experiences of my career. A typical day at work was always well-organized and professional, with clear expectations and strong communication. I started as a Security Guard, and after a year and a half I was promoted to Site Supervisor. The management team is absolutely amazing — they treat you like family, support you, and truly recognize your hard work.

During my time with the company, I learned valuable leadership and communication skills, gained real hands-on experience, and developed confidence that helped me move into a government position as an Officer, where I am now. The workplace culture is positive, respectful, and team-focused. One of the things I appreciated most was how understanding they were with scheduling. They always helped me balance work, family, and school, which allowed me to complete my Police Foundations diploma while gaining valuable experience.

The most enjoyable part of the job was working with a team that cares about your success and makes you feel valued every day. I feel very lucky to have been part of this company, and the experience I gained there has shaped my career in the best way.

Workin at Security Guard Group been a reel game-changer for me, 'specially in Whitby, Ontario, where I'm at a hotel. Since day 1, felt like part of a pro family dat really values its team. The support and trainin I got was top, makin me ready to handle stuff with confidens. What's big is how they keep things personal yet pro, making sure we're well-kitted but also looked after. Talking to the bosses is easy and they're always there when ya need help or advice.

The jobs and stuff I do has made my skills way better. I've talked to lots of people, making my talking skills good and learning lots about how to be cool with customers and manage tricky stuff. The team vibe is amazing, everyone's ready to lend a hand and share what they know.

Plus, the company's all in on new tech and smart ways of doing things, making us do our jobs real good and efficient. Feels great working for a place that puts money into its folks and tools so we can give top service to our clients.

All in all, working here's been super good. I feel respected, important, and part of a company that's really doing something in the security world. Proud to wear the uniform and stand for Security Guard Group here in Whitby. It's more than just work; it's a place where I've got better at what I do and grown a lot. Looking forward to more time with this awesome crew.

What is the best part of working at the company?
After working with this company for over a year, they abruptly terminated me and around 20 other guards with just 14 days’ notice and no proper explanation, despite originally hiring us as full-time permanent employees. This was unprofessional and disappointing.

The most stressful part about working at the company was the lack of job security and poor communication. Despite being hired as a full-time permanent employee, sudden terminations without clear reasons created uncertainty and low morale among staff.

The work environment and culture at the company were inconsistent and lacked transparency. While some team members were supportive, overall morale was affected by sudden staffing changes, limited communication from management, and a general sense of instability.



What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A typical day at the company involved reporting to assigned sites, maintaining security protocols, and ensuring safety for staff and visitors

I currently work for Security Guard Group as a mobile patrol guard and honestly its been a good experience so far. One thing I really like about the company is that the work feels stable. If you show up, do your job properly and communicate, there is steady hours and good job security.

The job can get busy sometimes, specially with mobile patrol because you have to manage your route, do reports, respond to calls and make sure every site is checked properly. But the company gives clear expectations and dispatch is there if you need help during the shift.

The work culture is good too. Management is fair and they expect people to be professional, but they also treat you with respect. I like that you are trusted to work on your own and not micromanaged all the time. It feels like a good place for someone who wants long term work in security and not just a temporary job.

Overall I would recommend working here to other guards. Its a stable company, the hours are consistent, and the team culture is respectful.

What you believe your learned
I worked at a security company before with no training. After security guard group hired me they did 2 weeks training on site and in class explaining criminal code, arrest powers, and trespass to property act  and a lot of other training customer service AODA health and safety patrol procedures everything you can think. Training period was fun. 

Management:
They have been great very laid back, supportive and understanding. Not short tempered and always help with questions. if i had problems or questions dispatch is always there to answer questions and teach about proper procedures when needed. 

workplace culture:
Great culture but sometime youget the grumpy guards that are toxic but overall culture is very laid back and supportive and respectful of our jobs

Hardest part of the job
Surviving on the payrate they offer... near minimum wage rates


Just like the other reviews.. pay is REALLY LOW some companies are starting their guards at $18-$20/hr by SGG paying guards $15/$16... they say it depends onsite (I haven't done any other site yet) but I am downtown cambridge and they pay $15. 

My site have really good guards and make it fun to come to work. this company is hands off (no use of force) and they do everything by the book. The uniform pants take forever to come to you so be prepared to have your pants (they want black pants). Uniforms are nice. 

Management relaxed and support us if we have not done wrong. They do too much training for trivial job functions like patrolling the site and reports then online training took 30 hours just training adn the pay is minimum wage for training. 

work/life balance:  4 days on 3 days off 12 hour shifts is a hassle after few months because pay the time off/on switches every pay period.. but it does make it easy to plan stuff knowing what days you have off for the whole year. 

salary/benefits: pay varies from site to site... I see internal posts for $15/hr but others $19/$20/hr dramatic shift in wages but better than other companies when you are at $19/hr. 

job advancement: being a contract worker carries the risk at any point losing the contract which may lead to job loss. As for advancement they prefer internal hires than outside

management: answers questions quickly and sympathetic. No issues so far. 

company culture: depends on the site and the site supervisor you work for. mobile patrol supervisors are not your friends

I working in security for over 15 years and have been with SGG for 9 months. It's not google but it's not the worst either. Their app shows about 200 guards in ontario and the problem with with smaller companies like this is lacks high paying supervisor jobs, inability to get uniforms without security deposit and not uninionzed 
but it does come with benefits such as direct communication with company owners and upper management. They also pay for some basic things license renewal fees, boots and have great benefits. 

All in all if you are just starting out this is a great stepping stone before moving on to one of the bigger companies.
