What is the best part of working at the company?
The people we provided care for and worked with were great and loved coming  there every day! This organizations' programs were developed through all levels of staff and management. The participants were the ones who chose which programs they wanted to attend. The most popular programs reflected their interests. Truly an enclusive environment. My favorite job ever!

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Starting a new program was a little stressful. As a staff member, you would never know if it would appeal to the participants. It was more an anticipation, not a stress.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
This is a great place to wok. I felt supported, in what to expect and  how to prepare. Management and supervisors were approachable and training was always ongoing.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
There was no typical day. Every day was unique. Every six months the programs available to participants were updated and changed as the interests of participants changed. There were always opportunities to grow for all involved. Even during  Covid, staff and management colaborated with care givers and family to  give new opportunities to the individuals we supported. Great place to work!

What is the best part of working at the company?
Did not receive direction. Fellowship and inclusion is lacking big time.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Not honest or forthright witness employees. Need to give better direction.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Svaytered, characterized by a lack inclusion, a lack of respect and little support or encouragement to grow. Such an environment can lead to high employee turnover, low morale, and decreased productivity.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Different each day.
It is difficult to explain each day as typical.

Working at semiahmoo house society was an amazing experience for me. I graduated high school in 2014, went into college same year in October. Graduated my csw diploma in May 2015 got hired at semiahmoo house society that September. I learned so much about myself, while gaining so much knowledge, empathy, selflessness, for others. Learning to value the things in life we take for granted that the people being supported there sometimes don’t get to experience, see, do, think, feel.  It was an important part of my journey to be involved in the evolution of people with diverse abilities.

I usually assist employment specialists in planning and creating fun and engaging activities for clients. I learned to interact with people with cognitive disabilities/ how to communicate in both a casual and formal way. Our management is good; they are supportive and help to maintain a work-life balance. The workplace culture is a family-like culture where you will not feel nervous or stressed. The hardest part was to handle to clients because some of them were very sensitive and they need extra care and attention. The most enjoyable part was to create activities and doing them.

Participants are welcoming, friendly. Well maintained facility and plenty of activities to do. This is one of the few environments that you can work in where most people (the participants) will not judge you. Come as you are, if you are a decent person with reasonable traits and go-with-the-flow attitude, you will have no issues. Some staff have cliques but that is common at work sites.

Management genuinely cares about their employees. The most enjoyable part is that you get to take part in some really fun activities. The hardest part is that you have to be very adaptable to change as anything can happen. This review only pertains to the Personal Development Program. I can't speak for any of the other programs.

Taking care of mentally and nonverbal individuals all on wheelchair ,I learn every day new things from them by taking care , my co-workers are very nice and very help full with new and old staffs. the hardest part of the job is nothing for me because I love to work in the type of fields. the most enjoyable part of the job is to socialized with individuals spending time with them.

A good place to start especially if you are interested in working with individuals who face physical as well as mental disabilities.  I only worked there for a summer term that was funded by the Canadian government but during the time I was employed there, I learned a lot about myself and the people I worked with.

they are an ever evolving place to work that is adapting to the needs of the residents in their care and trying to make them more involved in the community. they listen to ideas that staff bring with an open mind and willingness to implement the idea if it is suitable.
