My premium sales internship with the sens was a eye opening experience. Due to the inability to sell tickets at the time due to communal slander and poor team performance, many of the staff were extremely toxic. I feel like everyone there was depressed as there wasn't a single window in the office or anything resembling natural lighting. Additionally, since intern turnover happened every 4 months there was little respect and many overbearing expectations accompanied by embarrassing compensation. I was asked to sing the national anthem and score keep for some weekend tournaments at the CTC and when I had something planned, the staff who requested my presence became increasingly jaded when I didn't blow off all my weekend plans although this was also not apart of the job expectations. They just wanted free labour they could leverage and abuse and it showed. While those aspects definitely took away from the experience, I have to give the organization credit. They provided a foundation of skills which have remained relevant throughout my entire career. The experience equipped me with an amazing foundation in B2B sales/marketing in a client facing environment, and helped me realize my customer service strengths. There were also several good mentors despite some that took away from the experience. Staff perks were also pretty neat!

I started working at the Bell Sensplex back in September of 2011. It was the first real job I had ever had, and as soon as I started I felt extremely welcome and appreciated as another team member. I work at the concession stand and a typical day would include, opening up the stand, serving people, always making sure everything is stocked well, exceed customer service expectations and then at the end of the night, close down, restock and count the till. I've learned a lot at the Sensplex, from working under pressure and stress and how to properly deal with your own personal problems without taking them out on customers. I have learned how to work as a team when the stand gets busy. My co-workers are amazing, we are all around the same age and no matter who we are working with we always get along really well, and work together really well. The hardest part of the job is when it gets busy at the stand because it can get overwhelming and very stressful. I most enjoyable part of this job is being able to make friends and have fun at work while still working.

A typical day at work requires aggressive outbound activity which includes building your pipeline as well as keeping a focus on closing deals on a daily basis.
I learned the true value of coming into a day with a set list of activities you want to accomplish and being sure you don't leave for the day until you have accomplished those activities/tasks.
Direct supervisor was one of the most understanding and assisting managers I have worked for.
My co-workers make the experience at the Ottawa Senators enjoyable as a group of young professionals all with a desire to be successful and learn from each other even though we are competing.
The hardest part of the job was not getting caught up in the on-ice happening of the team and understanding that our job is to bring in revenue and not let being a fan consume your day.
The most enjoyable part of the job is feeling a personal connection with such a recognizable brand.

You either close work open the store. You have only a few customers a day just browsing the store. Shifts are very quiet and we were allowed to read our textbooks on our shifts. I don’t think I have learned much at such a slow pace job. My supervisor was very unpredictable. She would ask me if I can work a few hours before the shift starts or even the same day. I was a part time employee yet I got treated like an on call employee. Sometimes she would send me a text message at 6am in the morning asking me if I could cover her shift. I think it is very unprofessional and it’s not a proper notice. I woulddescribe workplace culture as toxic and management as unprofessional. I was fired without being even told how can fix my mistakes. I was simply fired instead and told what was not working. The management is very unappreciative and immature.

Working as a part-time lifeguard and swimming instructor provided great pay and fitness benefits for a teenage student. There are good opportunities for advanced training to further your skills and if you want to teach advanced courses for better pay. 

Culture depends on which shifts you're assigned to as different head lifegaurds who you report to have different personalities. Generally, the culture is accomodating and fun for all workers. Most employees are under the age of 25.

A typical day included setting time clock, making announcements, ensuring players were properly signed in. I learned to improve my communication with people, including effective listening. Management was very good at listening and answering questions. My co-workers were helpful. The hardest part of the job was staying comfortable with the low temperatures in the arenas. The most enjoyablepart of the job was talking to the referees and helping people.

I worked very hard lifting heavy boxes and for several months I helped in the kitchen when I worked in the concession stand serving and cleaning, I had finally asked for a day off for my girlfriend so I can attend a walk with her to raise money for her father who at the time was fighting luekemia, I was told I was not allowed to go and was expected to come in for my shift as it was scheduled so I quite with a smile and left happily with no remorse

It seemed to be a competition with the staff to see how many patrons you could kick out at every event. Most of them were police wanna bees and felt as though it was their job to remove anyone that was or seemed to be intoxicated. You stood for hours at the gates freezing for any events during the winter because there were no heaters and the doors were open continuously. Overall it was not a very pleasant place to work.
