A typical day at work was usually pretty interesting as there was a wide variety of work orders and projects to manage. My co-workers were great and for the most part the staff was very good. My observation was that they do have a fair percentage of managers who tend to be more "old fashioned" in their approach and are not too comfortable with innovation or change. Overall a fairly good place to work. Best part of the job was the chance to work with some great colleagues and make some changes (slowly) to increase productivity and quality

Hardest part of the job was managing the frustration level among the staff . They were unionized but surrounded by contract cleaners and they realize they are going to be replaced in the near future. Also a very challenging environment as there are 12,000 students who are generally not very concerned about picking up after themselves. It was difficult to keep the staff motivated at times

Working for Seneca Polytechnic was a genuinely positive and rewarding experience. The environment was professional yet supportive, allowing me to grow both personally and professionally. I had the opportunity to work alongside knowledgeable and approachable colleagues who were always willing to help and share their expertise. The organization places a strong emphasis on collaboration, respect, and continuous learning, which made it easy to stay motivated and engaged in my role.

One of the standout aspects was the structured approach to work and clear expectations, which helped me stay organized and efficient. I also appreciated the access to resources and training that contributed to skill development and confidence in my responsibilities. The management team was fair and communicative, ensuring that concerns were addressed and achievements were recognized.

Overall, my time there strengthened my work ethic, improved my interpersonal skills, and gave me valuable exposure to a well-run institution. It was an experience that added real value to my career development.

Working at Seneca College is very interesting. I have learned a lot and I am still learning. It is very engaging and knowledgeable as well. There are no dull and idle moments as everyone is very active and participative. Very timely as our department is in charge of prospective students, returning and alumni. It is a great opportunity for me to be part of this institution as they helped me a lot in my transition and to be well equipped with proper information about my work and how to deal with people. Working in a diverse, multilingual and multicultural environment is one key factor that helps me grow as an individual. Dealing with other people, giving the best customer service, and helping students are few of those things that made me proud of myself. I am working at my best to become a great asset in the department where I am working right now and rest assured that they will not regret hiring me and be part of their great team. I am very grateful also as I am getting a lot of support from my colleagues and the management.

Best Job so far in CANADA.
• Providing support to Seneca Students at Seneca Student Helpdesk with their IT accounts.
• Providing support to Seneca Employees at Employee Helpdesk with software and hardware.
• Activating, monitoring and troubleshooting the Seneca Residence internet network connections and maintaining the LAN/WAN including VPN, Firewalls and Routers Support.
• Reply to emails with issues related to username, password, notifications, mass e-mails, and any information related to college.
• Providing tours to new students and explaining them the services and policies of the Information Technology Acceptable use at Seneca College.
• Assisting Technologist in workstation image deployment (Windows 7) and working with Lotus Notes, SMS, imaging tools such as Ghost and Active Directory.
• Regularly performing hardware and software maintenance.
• Responding quickly, receiving calls and giving solution to the problems over the phone.

Working at Seneca College Information Technology Services Department as a Helpdesk Support was one of the best experiences I had. I was able on different projects that involved front office activities like interacting with clients of vary technical exposure where I communicated technical issues and escalated them to technologist using a ticket tracking system and back office activities like web/application programming and systems administration and maintenance.
At the Helpdesk there is flexibility to work on projects of choice. One is allowed to strengthen and focus on skills that matter to the individual's career be it in customer service, networking, programming among other fields.
The environment is not only stimulating but friendly and open. There is open communication within staff of all levels of the organization.


A typical day would start with a meeting with individual students and include giving a lecture with discussion, attending a colleague's lecture, leading a seminar, a meeting with colleagues, marking, preparation for upcoming classes.
I learned a great deal about students from cultures around the world, their formative influences, opinions, strengths and limitations; I learned much about negotiating among curriculum, students, time, and management priorities. 
My co-workers, with their wide range of backgrounds, interests, skills and personalities, were a huge part of the pleasure and challenge of teaching at Seneca.

Summary
Responsible for leadership, training of staff and delivery of new technology, business and system procedures in the Registrar’s Office. 
Leadership Responsibilities
•	Train staff on use of new system developments, technology and business processes.
•	Provide guidance and system expertise to Managers, Associate Registrars and Unionized employees within the Office of the Registrar.
•	Create quality control database queries, identify processing errors, communicate and train unionized staff and managers on appropriate use of business process.
Communication Expertise
•	Create and develop communication strategy for new and existing students college-wide.
Data Analysis Responsibilities
•	Responsible for development of database queries to address data request and analysis of all academic and service areas college-wide.

A typical day involved going to the Counselling and Disability Services office and being introduced to a student. A day started with getting to know a student who often lacked basic interpersonal skills. Then I sat with the student and discussed areas they required assistance. Based around that, either I would attend lectures for them and take notes, or help with compiling a project or typing a test or an exam for them.
It was a small office and the co workers were great to work with.
The hardest part was getting some students to open up to me.
The most enjoyable part of the job was when a student opened up to me and feel comfortable talking to and confiding in me.

Seneca is a great place to work. Overall management is good. The working environment is good for new hires There is a good chance of growth here.

However, some courses are well developed with extensive material, texts, assignments, and tests to start with. Yet some have almost nothing and you are expected to build for virtually no pay. Class size can vary from 18 to 32.

Seneca College is a good place to work focused on the pursuit of education and knowledge sharing.BUT...it is best suited for full time rather than contract work. Contract workers do a lot of work and do not move forward.
