I thoroughly enjoyed my position of PSW/Caregiver at Senior Homecare By Angels.  The owner and office staff were very easy to get along with, listened carefully and took all my reviews and concerns seriously.  My Clients were amazing, and they definitely were and are the best part of this job.  Each of them is so unique and has lived through incredible adventures in the changing tides of our world!!!  I really miss them and the connections I formed with each and every one of them.  One of the hardest challenges of this position is losing a Client to age or illness. The staff were caring and understanding in these few and far between (thank goodness) situations.
  Clients and staff are matched based on office assessment, and if you or the client do not feel comfortable, or find yourselves incompatible,  the office will do all in there power to ensure that the match is the right one.  The staff that I met in the field were very friendly, encouraging, thoughtful and amazing people!  All of their clients raved about them!  My physical limitations were acknowledged and accepted, ensuing that I was given only duties that I could safely undertake.  Some clients require intensive physical care, some emotional support, some help with daily activities.  Every client has an individual plan of care that can change with help of family and our recommendations as to the client's needs,  My availability was also recognized and accepted at face value.  I worked at SHBA for almost 2 years, and would still be there except for spousal relocation.  This is a GREAT place to work, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to work in the community as a PSW or Caregiver!  Senior Homecare By Angels is the BEST!

The clients are the only aspect of this agency that will keep you coming back. They are amazing and the most rewarding part of the job. Other than that, if you want to work in homecare, Angels will offer you the lowest salary in the job market.  And the expectations they have for you do not match their ethical code as an agency. They will call you up three hours before asking if you can pick up a shift. However, even if you give them weeks' notice for cancelling a shift they will guilt trip you into feeling terrible that you made a "commitment". They will put you into unsafe scenarios without giving you the full picture and pretend to be shocked when you tell them. Do not expect to get compensated fully for mileage, and do not expect any form of professional behaviour from management. One thing I've learned here is to always put everything down in writing. Like others have mentioned I have had many instances where I have asked for more hours and in turn, the communication has been that I'm "looking for fewer hours". The scheduling is also poorly managed, don't be surprised to find that one of your shifts has been cancelled/added without your knowledge or if another caregiver shows up at the same time that you do for a shift. It's quite sad to think that many of us are only staying in this job because of our love for our clients and our passion for the field. This is an overall, terrible work environment that I would certainly not recommend to anyone. 

During the onboarding process, the recruiter was great, she was full of knowledge and uplifting you enough for me to really want to take on this position with a bright outlook on the future. So good job on the recruitment part. However, they say they won't make you drive long distances as they "are the busiest agency around" and have many clients in your area. They didn't have any more than one client for me and I drove a ridiculous distance for such a short shift, the gas was more than my paycheck with no mileage to or from. The owner is rude and money hungry and doesn't give a rats about the staff or the clients, so long as they get paid. Turned me right off of homecare altogether unfortunately. Be careful and ask A LOT of questions. Make sure you jot down what they SAY as apposed to what they really are. Which is full of empty promises just to get ya onboard, to waste your time and wish you had put forth the energy to an honest and worthwhile company. 

I have been working with Senior Homes by Angels for about 7 months now. Sense the beginning of my employment I have loved every minute of it. Management is very supportive of personal life situations and praise you when you’re doing a great job with your work. I personally feel I have become a better person, thanks to the wonderful clients I have got the opportunity in working with and of course my amazing staff. I have never felt like I wasn’t matched to the right client. If you have the opportunity to have an interview with us, take it! Our wonderful team won’t disappoint you. 

You hardly get paid for milage even with all your shifts at least 30 minutes away. Minimum wage, which is ridiculous for the work we do. I have to work 55 Hours a week to make ends meet. Management doesn’t really care what kind of shifts you ask for, they just schedule you for whatever they feel like, sometimes shifts 16 hours long. And if you feel uncomfortable, management doesn’t seem to care very much. There are better homecare companies who will pay better, give benefits and care about their staff over money.

I worked at this job for about 6 months. At first it was lovely and I really enjoyed working but then I got taken advantage of. I was working 14-16 hr days when I wanted part time hours, then when I asked for full time I hardly got any shifts and they would tell clients who requested me that I wanted less hours when I was really begging for more. The mileage sucks and you hardly get paid for the gas you spend. You get minimum wage for overnights because some are “ sleep” shifts but you hardly get any sleep and then have to work the next day all day. I do not recommend working for them at all!

Owner is never wrong

The owner.  Fear of making a mistake.   Chaotic poor training.  Expect oo much of you to reflect pay

Cliquey.  Fast paced.   Company values numbers over people

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Non Stop.   Which is good because day flies by

Working with this company was easy.  Provided my required hours and was working within a week of hire.  Expectations of 30 hours per week was met.  Drive distance was a mix but in Calgary, that's life and 15 to 25 min is average. Orientation from HR was awesome, all handled via zoom and everything agreed to was in writing. I am still working for this company and would like to see higher wage but its average with everyone else in private home care.

Busywith clients in there homes

Loved working for this company. Grew a lot and loved my clients. Placed and matched client to caregiver was awesome. They really care for their clients. Just don’t pay enough and there are no benefits or sick time pay. No chance of a raise which makes it hard to stay unless you are willing to work yourself to the bone.
