The most stressful part of the job is sometimes the pace during busy periods, especially when several client requests or technical tasks arrive at the same time. However, this pressure is generally manageable and even motivating, because the team collaborates closely to solve problems efficiently. The support from colleagues and managers makes these moments much easier to handle.

Overall, the challenges are balanced by a strong workplace culture and a sense of accomplishment when projects are completed successfully. Sherweb remains an excellent place to work and develop professionally.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A typical day working at Sherweb usually begins with reviewing emails, messages, and any new client requests that came in overnight. Employees often start by organizing priorities for the day and coordinating with their team to make sure ongoing tasks and projects are moving forward efficiently.

Throughout the day, much of the work involves collaborating with colleagues, responding to client needs, and managing technical or administrative tasks depending on the role. There are often meetings or quick check-ins where teams discuss progress, solve problems together, and plan next steps for projects.

The pace can vary depending on client activity, but the day generally involves a mix of focused individual work and teamwork. By the end of the day, employees review completed tasks, update projects, and prepare for the following day to ensure everything continues running smoothly.

On the outside, the company looks inclusive. They fundraise for charity, they claim to support local talent as they were founded in Quebec in 1998.

But my, how the times have changed.

Firstly, they have outsourced most of the support staff to India. The company was very ambitious and took on a lot of support projects but they don't have the quality or quantity of talent necessary to catch up on projects they agreed to and were ill-equipped to handle. That source of stress and skill expectation they now pass down onto you, the employee. They want you to possess Microsoft-certification-level knowledge as well as the ability to handle stress, SLA's, difficult clients, tools that don't work, an HR team that takes weeks to get back to you, shifts until midnight and poor management but will not pay you half of what that type of worker is worth.

What this leads to: People talk. People tell friends to stay away from this company. Sherweb cannot get (or keep) any local talent to work for them. The only solution for them to keep up with the very high amount of people quitting and workload they took on is to hire people from outside who will do it for $14 an hour.

During my training, we were told that the company had a "positive workplace culture", no room for micromanagement, to forget everything we know about call center work, focus on your success, flexibility and the support necessary to help us do good at the job.

You will be rushed through training. There is a lot to learn and a lot that we are expected to support from the get-go and we are not given enough time to learn things properly. The training team does their best but they seem to be victims of this rushed schedule. We are not confident or properly prepared for our first cases and it throws us off immensely. We have support to answer questions but they are overworked and we do not get the necessary hands-on support we need for our first few weeks.

Then, we are almost immediately told to pump up our numbers if we do not hit them. Being told to "get better numbers" from the same people who are supposed to work with my skills to help me achieve those numbers is a tremendous red flag regarding the very poor leadership talent in the department.

They are very good at analyzing things that are wrong, never-ending issues with my tools, terrible communication between departments - but they never seem to be acting on fixing or avoiding these things. Ironic considering we are being asked to do these same things for our clients.

I have never felt safe communication with Human Resources. It is clear that they are there for the company's best-interests. It takes me 2 weeks to get a reply from them on issues that are important to me, they make tons of grammatical issues on our names and don't fix things rapidly.

Management doesn't listen when you address issues with them. They don't take your feedback seriously to work on things. They will "hear" you but they will not "listen". They're great at giving out excuses why they cannot add more support, resources or compensate you without even trying. They'll also say that doing things way above and beyond your job description is acceptable because "the role naturally evolves" without the salary to match.

You are a number in a machine that is there to take and close a ton of tickets on a ton of subjects but will be paid like you are the most basic, low-rung, entry-level, first-job person in the world... and if you leave, they'll just find another number to outsource your work to until that same person finds better or quits.

My life is not worth this manipulation.

The job itself is good. Working directly with clients to resolve a variety of technical issues from infected systems, wireless printer setup to email client issues and everything else in between.

If tech support is your passion, this job will provide you with a fairly constant chance to test your ability to troubleshoot new and unique issues, however you can expect to spend most of your day resolving the same basic issues. ( as mentioned above, wireless printer troubleshooting - email client setup / issues - virus removal startup for chat agents.

The management team is very uncoordinated and communication seems to be lacking - you will have to juggle which team leader is on shift with how they expect you to work and handle calls due to the fact each one will give you different expectations and priorities. - however this is being looked at with a hopeful positive outcome moving forward. 

That being said, working from home is a bonus and the overall experience is positive at Global Mentoring Solutions. 

Salary does vary widely from one employee to another based on previous experience when applying, don't expect to get raises too often and promotions typically don't come with any significant raise in comparison with the added work loads.

Co-Workers are friendly and helpful when asking questions.

I started searching when I was exhausted of my 2-hour commute to downtown Toronto, tired of the long, cold Canadian winters, and sick of not being an involved parent.

I searched for a distributed company that would allow me to move to South Florida for the winter with my family and work remotely. 

I am currently living near Miami, working remotely for GMS part time in the evenings. 

I love the flexibility while I get up and jog along the beach in the mornings, hang out with my wife all day and work a few hours from my living room in the evening!

I love it. The support calls are from hundreds of companies located across North America as well, so the job is difficult and challenging. These are good things for someone like me who has the attention span of a fly! Keeps me on my toes.

They encourage me to study and take courses in between calls, and they will pay for your certs and give you a raise when you complete 2 certs within the year. Good deal.

And did I say the lunches are awesome? Just kidding, it's a remote, or work from home position, so there are so many benefits to that alone, that I could go on for another 500 words! 

Being home for life's important little firsts and being an involved parent  has only been possible while working with GMS.

The entire team is very supportive and helpful. Get started, and enjoy the work/ life balance they offer.

Overall, there are some great folks working there. 

However, most mid-managers are learning on the job and for most, their qualifications are time of service only. Their business model seems to be low-cost labour but of course that creates so much inestability that it reaches a point of no return, at the expense of the services they provide. The most brutal employee attrition that i have known of.

Clue in the new hired managers with "great corporate experience" and the switch to outsourcing will make sense. (they can lower labour cost some more, somewhere else in the world). Anyways, those that have been in IT for a while, will recognize the pattern. Most similar companies that have made this move, have 
a) lost their customer base due to drop in QoS 
b) lost revenues dramatically and tanked
c) Those with enough cash flow, were forced to revert to local or higher Quality of Service, to stop customers leaving.

As a prospective employee this means, if you have any experience whatsoever, use it to get a job somewhere else.
If you don't and need work, by all means. But know that you'll be frustrated eventually and will likely bear the stress of a company heading in the wrong direction, because of course, the stress is pushed down to the weakest link.
As it predictably happens, all changes and upheaval take place among the lowest ranks, while Management keeps experimenting.



The job is extremely stressful and you get bombarded with unrealistic expectations from both customers and your managers. 
Pay is shamefully low and it's even less than many regular customer service jobs. 
They overwhelm you with a huge workload and doesn't allow you to take a breath. They always ask you to work mandatory overtime and you have no rights to object.
Sherweb has two faced managers and supervisors that smile in front of you and stab you in the back.
You must always be careful not to do any mistakes because they don't want their client to be bothered by even an epsilon.
Work life balance is nothing but a joke at Sherweb. You come to Sherweb, forget about everything you had in your normal life. Work life balance is below zero there. 
Most of the agents working at Sherweb are there to gain required experience for permanent residency. After that, they leave the job forever and never apply for a similar role. 
If you want to apply for your permanent residency, Sherweb is not even the best company. Do a bit of research and you'll find other companies for that which are definitely better than Sherweb.

As stated in the summary - Sherweb is a good enough option for young people graduating from IT / Tech background as a first job out of school, or people with little experience. It is also a good option for people who live in Sherbrooke or in other Quebec regions where the job market is limited.

However, If you have any industry experience in IT or have worked for other mid to large sized organizations, you will quickly realize that Sherweb operates just like a small-town family business. The management is 100% "Top-Down". The owners make the decisions and the VPs (who all live in Sherbrooke and worked there for 10 + years) just enforce the orders. If you follow orders and just do what you're told, you can do OK with management.  

A lot of the employees are either incompetent or toxic because the company can't afford to pay top performers - so they get the bottom 10% of qualified candidates for technical positions. 

As a result, the day-to-day life is a constant battle of trying to either work around or correct some co-workers' mistakes while being attacked and undermined by others trying to make themselves look better. 

The culture is based on blaming others when things go wrong and stealing credit when things go well.  

Its an okay company and being able to work remotely is very convenient. The work is quite boring and repetitive. The only interaction you have with your co-workers is in the group channels and once a month during team meetings. I find it hard to build relationships with co-workers because of the little interaction. People are generally pretty nice though. Most annoying thing about the job are the tools the mentors use. They break so often and seem to never get fixed and just brushed under the rug. I feel like there is little room for advancement as there are really only 3 positions available to most people; support rep, NOC team and shift lead. They very rarely hire for anything other than phone support people. Getting raises seems very difficult as it requires you to obtain 3 certifications before you are made illegible. When asking about which certificates are required or when materials will be available for study, you don't get a real answer even after asking many times. That said upper level management are busy but it almost feels like its done on purpose. 

Overall, the job is convient, pay is decent and its easy, but, not the job for me or anyone that doesn't LOVE dealing with people.

Job Work/Life Balance:
- The job you apply for is often not what you will be doing. You will get more and more tasks to do the longer you are in the company.
- At one point, they applied 6 sigma strategy and had an important amount of employees who left forcing whoever that stayed to work double.
- They do in revenge offer great advantage when you have kids. (Leaving earlier or coming later)

Greatly underpaid for the workload.
- Salary is around 10 to 20k under minimum yearly range.
- They give unofficial titles so they can better play with your salary.

Job Security:
- It's the type of work where you have to do whatever your manager is doing for not losing all hope of moving forward in the company. You have no word to say, you just have to do it. That's it.
- They have internal system to tag an employee permanently, that system is easily accessible to anyone from the management and once you are tag, there is pretty much no hope for you in that business unless you do miracle.

Management:
- Lots of immaturity.
- Watch videos on YouTube at work.
- Power Abusive.
- Have no problem talking in the back of their employees.
* That's not the case for everyone though.

Culture:
- Great employees
- Great internal events (PaintBall, Laser Tag, Archery, ...)
* Not rating 5 since they micro manage even though they say they don't

I was very much excited to have joined Sherweb 4 years ago as this was the first telephone-based work I ever had. As days passed, we experienced multiple issues as support for technical staff via SMEs was never on point and adequate, and the micro-management was and is at its peak at all times. The expectations to resolve super complex cases without any help and support via different support teams would mostly not result positively. For every team lead, there are unacceptable and more than enough team members that they are never able to manage and be available for. The employees with the ability to advance are not appreciated and in order to advance, knowing people and behaving in a certain way with certain people within the management is always needed to advance. The employees with certain higher technical knowledge are undervalued and underpaid compared to other similar companies. The number of employees hired and leaving the company is something never seen before in my previous work experience.
