Sherwood Co-op

As a deli clerk, there was a long list of tasks to take to heart and be on top of. I was moved to the closing shift, I would assume for the slow traffic so I could get used to my responsibilities. Admittedly, I am a slow learner at times, despite the notes I took. My co-workers were patient and kind to me while I was adjusting, and I can't fault them for my short-comings. The co-op has a reputation for being a family, and I could see why. Being a deli clerk wasn't my best fit, and they wished me the best of luck toward my horizons.

A typical day at work was to bring out product from the back and work it onto the shelves. Check on expired dates, stock, rotate and face the products. Organize/fix displays. Greet and help customers with the location of products in the store.

I enjoyed working with some of my co-workers, they were friendly and easy to get along with. Made some friendships as well.

Stocking inventory,  Working with Cashiers, conversing with management on what could be improved on.  I learned how to managed an eCom department and train the new staff.  The hardest part was the different peoples personalities and how they all learn at a different speed.  The most enjoyable part was getting to know the other employees and customers on a friend level.  I gained a great new group of friends.  

A typical day at coop consists of lots of customer service either pumping gas, working till, propane filling, or helping a customer fill air. Management is great, always having support from managers and/or supervisors. The workplace culture is always fun. There really is no hardest part of the job it just depends on the day. 

While working at co-op I made plenty of new friends. I still go to my old location (South Albert gas bar) everytime I get gas just because I love to see the friendly faces. We got close quick and had an amazing time on and off of work together. Great enviroment and I would love to be a part of the organization again.

There was opportunity to grow the business, however due to the financial position of the Co-Operative it was run into the ground. There was also challenges with negotiating a new Collective Bargining Agreement.

As long as you can battle the elements and don't mind showering after every shift because of the smell of gas, it is not a terrible job. The biggest downfall is often bad coworkers and sometimes customers.

The people I work with are very helpful and are easy going. The work I do is continiously learning, and give me a good visual on everyday life. The managers are usually felxible and want whats best for the employees hours.

A shift relatively passes quickly without issue. If there are any problems that arise, management is readily available and completely supportive. You quickly learn the ropes of quality customer service, and the staff is one of the best I've seen.
