Seriously don’t know how to start, but this will be a long review. For starters, there is an INCREDIBLE amount of work place harassment.. more so from the Scheduling Manager than anything. Dealing with this manager is next to impossible; she picks her favourites for sure. If you’re not a favourite, you will work more than you could possibly handle. I’m talking every weekend, week days, barely any time off to cover other staffs vacation while she denies yours. She will say one thing than do another or deny it, and if you bring it up infront of other management, she will have a full blown fit and call you a liar. She has no issue tearing staff down in order to make herself look better. If you are not a favourite and click in early or late, not only will she doc you 15mins from your pay, but she will threaten your position. If you call in sick for a valid reason, she will become angry at you, won’t speak a word to you for days. To put it simply, she will bully you and make any need of yours extremely difficult and unvalued, threaten you with your job even through it’s NOT her place, and will make having a life and other responsibilities outside of Owen Hill next to impossible. As for work place harassment between staff members, some will quite literally try sabotaging your job by making false accusations, just because they don’t like you.  Verbal and Emotional harassment from certain individuals is constant and nearly unbearable. Shifts will sabotage shifts and slack off just because they think the “other shift can deal with it”, but will cry the blues to management if something isn’t done for them.  Kitchen staff has absolutely NO issue saying negative things about you to each other while you are sitting in the room by the kitchen- for some reason the only thing that gets them through the day is making nasty remarks about those who call in to work. When issues are brought up to management, nearly nothing is done. No matter what it is, management will not respect the privacy of the situation (i.e, scheduling manager will make passive aggressive remarks at you about the situation). Speaking on unprofessional staff, some staff get a complaint from a resident about pain, and said staff member will document it as a “behavior”. Weeks, if not days later, said resident will end up in the hospital for the same reason they complained with, most of the time, with a worsened condition. The directors of care are no help as well. Not only are they inconsistent with the information they share with staff underneath them, but will treat staff like they know absolutely nothing just because they are RN’s. When the floor is short staffed, they will not assist in care giving (DOC’s are Resigered or Registered Practical Nurses) as they deem their sheets of paper more valuable than the residents quality of life and basic care. The home is DISGUSTING, The environmental manager will dismiss any concern from housekeeping staff and downplay it (Im talking dismissing black mould in residents bathrooms, dead rodents in the ceiling, insect infestation and will take weeks to replace old equipment that is vital to resident care and the physical well being of staff members). There is an incredible amount of things that would literally shut this home down if ministry came in, and so it should be. The residents live in an absolute jail that is not adequately taken care of or addressed by management, leaving the PSW’s to deal with the utter filth that this place truly is. Obviously there is neglect of the residents (for example, they have not been outside in MONTHS), but there is severe neglect of Nursing Staff. Besides failing to address complaints about harassment properly  managers get to sit in their Air Conditioned offices all day while staff suffer immensely in the heat on the floors. Staff get in trouble for having water bottles on the floor, as well as turning on a fan, and are not welcome to any sort of hydration until their breaks. Screening staff are not welcome to water or a fan at their station, and have to sit in an iso gown, mask and goggles for 8 hours a day. Since management does not have anyone to cover the screeners breaks, the screener may or may not get their break to hydrate them self, none the less eat, and will get in trouble for relieving themself for the washroom. COVID-19 is a whole other issue I want to share with the reviews here as we are not out of the clear for this pandemic. Not only are our prevention measures inconsistent,  DOC’s and management allow symptomatic staff to continue to work in the home due to inadequate scheduling, and they may or may not decide to pay you if you call in with symptoms and get tested, nor do they share with you that you will have to go through the ministry to be paid. They have left numerous affected staff without pay for weeks on end, and send them through an obstacle of trying to reach the ministry to be paid even though the manager of the home said Sienna will be paying them for their leave. As for the $100M lawsuit, every accusation is undeniably true. Not only did they hire on unqualified and unprofessional staff, neumerous new people were in and out of the home like a revolving door WITHOUT TESTING, but  all access to PPE was monitored by management. It was under lock and key only managers have access to , and since they get weekends off and rarely are available when scheduled, staff is left scrambling to find adequate PPE to wear at work. Nurses will have to bring down extra masks from the floors which causes a shortage. Not only is that an issue, but preventative measures for COVID-19 were not taken until we were in outbreak.Every manager and DOC at Owen Hill deserves to be stripped of any credential they have and never work in health care again. These residents at Owen Hill deserve better care, the staff deserve better management and management deserves to be replaced by professionals who know how to do their job, who are not selfish and provide adequate care when needed. Letters behind your name mean nothing when you fail to do your job adequately and affect the lives of staff and residents negatively on a daily basis. I can honestly say I only stayed so long for the residents and some staff, as the only people who made me feel like a valued team member were those inidividuals. If you work here, expect no appreciation, no opportunity to grow in this company financially (some staff have been here for YEARS with only a single dollar raise), and not being able to trust Management with your concerns or time off. As far as I am concerned, every family member involved in this law suit or not  deserves every penny and then some from this home to be financially able to move their loved one to a home that has a strong, trustworthy, mature team that is patient focused and organized, instead of living in a home were staff sabotage, harassment from management and dirty conditions are present.  Finally, if you apply for a new job once you’ve realize you had enough of the harassment, short staffing and heartbreak from Owen Hill, do not bother using them as a reference. They will give you a terrible review to make sure you stay at Owen Hull, no matter how qualified you are or how good you were at your job. 
It breaks my heart knowing that I get to leave and the residents don’t. I truly wish every good staff member and amazing residents the best.

This is a terrible place to work, management is awful and needs to be walked out the door, they bully and harass staff, absolutely zero staff appreciation, will even send notices at Christmas for family members to NOT bring in anything for staff appreciation, it is to be donated to facility and then staff still get absolutely nothing.  Always working short and many staff are burnt out, some staff can come in late and get paid for entire shift, when this is brought to management they say "we are working on it" and it still occurs, however when other staff are late they are docked pay, complete favoritism at this facility.  Managers hide in their offices and will not come to the floor to actually see the staff struggling with short staffing, managers refuse to assist, refuse to deal with issues brought forth, but continually are adding extra duties to the job routines.  Families are allowed to bully and harass staff and management still does nothing about it.  Work culture sucks, too many gossipy people from management to PSW's/nurses.  Absolutely zero team work, only complaints hurled at team members even when they go above and beyond to assist the next shift.  Our facility is extremely filthy and when this is brought to managements attention, still nothing happens.  Many staff remain as they have pensions and vacation time built up over the years, but not one happy employee to be found, only complaints.  Constantly have to check your pay stubs and there has been too many times my pay has been shorted, and vacation pay reduced until noticed by myself. 
 Do yourself a favor and keep looking for a better company and what ever you do, DO NOT PUT YOUR LOVED ONE IN A SIENNA HOME, there is a good reason they are being sued.

These people really know how to treat you like garbage. They go out of their way to strip your confidence and leave you feeling worthless. Just pure demoralization and never any encouragement. Management is completely ignorant and play favouritism to their staff. No matter how difficult and heavy the workload is, they will throw absurd expectations and expect you to master everything in such a very short amount of time. If you're a new hire and you struggle a bit trying to adjust to the heavy workload, expect a discouraging lecture and insinuations of getting fired. Also, expect to get harassed for being too slow and have coworkers nag about you all the time. It's not about building skills and gaining experience, the only thing that matters to these people is moving super fast and programming yourself to work like a robot. Coworkers are like bullies and are always gossiping like high school girls. They have big mouths and would try to make pointless complaints about you. They also nitpick you and only nag about the things you aren't doing perfectly to their standards. But the minute you keep trying and make improvements, they ignore it and wait till the next mistake you make to complain again. 

Be careful working for this company, they really do not care about you and just want to overwork you like a machine. You're not considered human to these people. Don't waste your energy and your time working so hard to leave a good impression. In the end.....they don't care and will still negatively judge your entire work performance based on the few minor errors they focus so heavily on. I understand fast pace environments, but they take it too far and they wonder why so many people refuse to pickup more shifts or quit this job.

Management sucks and don’t like to do their jobs. They don’t care about anything except getting paid! I worked there for 9 months and my pay was wrong 5 times. They wouldn’t pay you the money they owed you until the next pay. So you were stuck waiting two weeks whether you told them you needed the money or not. The building is falling apart and they have been having water leaks in all different places for months.  The building has got to be so full of mould, but Sienna likes to spend the least amount of money as possible, therefore the problem is never going to get fixed. There is no staff appreciation at all anymore. They used to do an employee of the month,  but since the new year they haven’t done anything. Other employees that have been there the longest think they own/run the place and think they are better than the newer staff. There is so much talk and drama there, it’s worse than when I was in high school. There is no confidentiality! If you go to your manager and tell them something, whether you want it to be in confidence or not. It’s guaranteed in no time everyone will know. People come in 2 hours before their shift (why, seriously do you have no life?!). Oh and if your manager has an issue with you they go to other staff and expect them to confront you instead of the manager approaching the person they have a problem with. It’s only minimum wage plus a little extra now because it’s unionized plus if you work nights you get paid for your breaks and a .50 cent premium. Only good things are the residents,  benefits and a couple of the other employees are awesome. Think twice before working here because guaranteed it’s not what you imagined it would be like.

Constantly SHORT staffed and over worked. There is NO job security due to the stories I have heard about the cause of other staff termination. The only break I got on most days was  15 minutes before  the home's lunch time at  12 pm and  the last hour of my shift   when all the work was 

A red flag is when I asked the PSW who trained me about disciplinary action and said are verbal/written warnings given out? And her reply was, "They don't really do that here."

Management blame staff for resident falls when it is THEIR fault due to shortage of staff. We need  4 staff MINIMUM (not including the nurse) on the floor on ALL shifts for 24 residents.  Usually there is only 3 staff. 2 PSW and 1 CSA.

The director of care and other management  DO NOT know how to talk to staff. They are confrontational and full of attitude. They are aggressive and talk to staff as if they are beneath them in a condescending tone. 

When the d.o.c asked for my key card back, I said I didn't have it and she got out of her chair, closer towards the table where I was sitting and yelled in an angry tone, why didn't you bring it?! I kept my cool and  said I can come back and return it today at reception. Then she sat back down and said it's ok. I can deactivate it.

The job is stressful and super fast paced. 

The only positive aspect is my work team is supportive and open to communication. 

Management does not have your best interest at heart. They just provide the minimum required training based on the organization and Ministry requirements.  The work culture is upper management bullying the staff members who work for them. 

Constantly short staffed and over worked, lots of people in this town works for car plant, they get better pay and benefits.

There is NO job security due to the poorly and inexperienced general manager.

Red flag when it comes to schedule, you get pay for 75.5 hours biweekly, but expectations is you work over 50 hours weekly, also make sure to have written on your contract what days you are expected to work, I was told on the interview the executive chef works Monday to Friday, then quickly change to be there every other weekend.

Another red flag, a lot of calls in for not showing and GM expects you to attend all shifts (including cooks and waiters) when people don’t show up, go figure how long you have to be there daily.

All managers from other departments expected to be waiters when short staff.

Confrontational and full of attitude.

HR department is useless, they never reply to your needs.

The job is super stressful and super fast paced, to the point you can have a mental breakdown.

8 executives chefs in the last 2 years, again NO job security.

The only positive aspect on this home is the lovely residents and some coworkers that make your life more bearable while there.

Management does not have your best interest at heart. They present as super cool and then change to bully you around.

The work culture is upper management have to like you on a personal level for you to stay.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Interacting with the residents.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The working conditions in the Housekeeping and Laundry departments were unacceptable. The staff lunchroom was dirty and poorly maintained, which is particularly concerning in a healthcare environment and shows a lack of basic respect for employees.
Staff morale was visiblv very low, with many emplovees appearing disengaged and discouraged. This negatively affected the overall work atmosphere. 
Training for new employees was inadequate. Staff assigned to train new hires did not demonstrate effective teaching practices or concern for proper onboarding, leaving new employees underprepared and unsupported.
There was a noticeable lack of management involvement and accountability, contributing to ongoing issues with cleanliness standards, training quality, and employee morale.

Advice to Management:
Significant improvements are needed in staff area cleanliness, training standards, and leadership support within the Housekeeping and Laundry departments.  Addressing these issues is essential to creating a safe, respectful, and functional work environment.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Deplorable. Disgusting. Not worth the stress. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Unorganized. Lack of communication.

Lowest possible pay in the industry, there are people who have been working for 10+ years and still make minimum wage. They expect you to work extreme hours and you're constantly short staffed. Benefits only exist if you're in one of the very few full time positions, even if they make you work more hours than someone on full time there is no chance of any sort of benefits. They make you responsible to log into their broken computer system to monitor your own pay or they just won't give it to you. Hours upon hours of annoying mandatory education that you don't get paid for. Double standards are everywhere and management deffinitly plays favourites. No premium for night shifts and they have no problems quilting you into working in excess of 16 hours in a day. Working literally every day in a 2 week pay period might net you 4-5 Hours of overtime pay. Upper management are idiots and just sit back and make demands to put on extra work load while also cutting back staff and resources to the point you can barely fulfill your job duties. 0 compassion for people's personal lives, if you need time off to collect yourself or you have a bad injury or sickness you will be punished for it. Could honestly go on for hours with nothing posa5ive to say so just save yourself the trouble and apply at McDonald's or go on welfare as you d be far better off.

Very unprofessional workplace culture, deceitful practices, ineffective communication, a lack of transparency, and a disconnect between management's actions and the company's stated purpose, vision, and values. 

A lot of gossip and a blatant disregard for professionalism as well as a concerning lack of effective communication skills. Instead of fostering an open and respectful dialogue, it was filled with intimidation and bullying tactics when faced with questions or disagreements, very passive aggressive interactions rather than meaningful conversation.

Beware! Deception surrounding on-call requirements. I was repeatedly provided inaccurate information about the extent and impact of the on-call duties. This lack of transparency demonstrates a disregard for my well-being and work-life balance, eroding my trust, and confidence in the organization. Being called in too often also creates the potential for not complying with program regulations. 

It was disheartening to witness the divergence between the organization's professed ideals and the actual workplace environment. It’s essential for management to lead by example and uphold the values that constitute the foundation of the company's identity.

Too many gossips and backstabbing within management at Silverthorn Care Community . It started promising and uplifting but shifted fast towards chaos and betrayal by Executive Director and her minions . Human rights are abused and company policy in regards to this is not enforced by the company itself  you can get warned and written up for speaking your native language during lunch times who’s is not paid  so your unpaid time you can’t talk to your coworkers on your native language . I have an accent and I got written up on annual review and harassed by . Wasting government subsidies are rampant and lost of equipment got tossed to garbage without being ever used but immediately purchased new batch just because budget has to be spent . Ministry visits creates panic among management but quickly hides some of the irregularities so they don’t see it  . I am truly disappointed with the company and Silverthorn management . What seemed to be great career opportunity turned into nightmare and health issue. I would not recommend working for this employer and this particular home .
