Silver Star Mountain Resort

(Winter Season)

My day started with getting dressed in my snow gear, ready to start my day at 8:00. first is the morning briefing where tasks to start the day are assigned and disused on how to be handled. Work would consist of erecting a fence to close out of bounds areas or hazardous terrain. Ski patrol would occasionally require assistance with injuries, transporting the toboggan to and from the incident. The co-workers that i had the pleasure of working along side are the best, it doesn't feel like work, partly because it is a ski hill. The worst or hardest part of the job is the weather, because if it cold and miserable, damp or windy, the job still needed to get done. Now it sounds worse that it is, every 15-30min on the bad days we could go inside at the top of the chairlift for a warm-up break, thaw out and collect ourselves again. I would have to say the best part of the job was just being outside, working my muscles, breathing the fresh mountain air.

A typical day at work would involve counting the cash, talking with customers, offering advice, programs or lesson options, helping them to make decisions to help make their time at Silver Star the best. I have further developed my customer service skills through this job, as it involves many different customers who can be anything from stressed, excited, anxious or upset. It is important to treat each customer with absolute respect. I have really enjoyed my time at this job, mostly because of the people I work with. I respect and enjoy everyone's company who I have the pleasure of working with - this includes the instructors, the day care staff, supervisors and my co-workers on the front desk. The most enjoyable part of my job was being with a great team each day. The hardest part would definitely have to be staying inside on a fresh powder day!

There is a group who have been there for many years.  Then there is everyone else.  Everyone else is expendable.  You're only there to help out during the peak times to make it easier on the old boys club.  Once they feel they don't need you, they dump you.
And they rarely feel like they need you.  
And if you're not an import, it's even worse.
They know they need locals to work at the hill, but they really despise locals.  At least as employees.  They love locals money, just not the people who need a job.
The general staff below management level are always great people.  But management is toxic.  If you're not willing to work unlimited overtime for free, you are not committed and thus expendable.
I felt unwanted from the day I started until my last day.  
It's not the place to work if you're a local. 

Staff accommodations at Asgard is not ideal, if you can find a place in Vernon that would make this experience a solid 7/10. My manger was great! But my supervisor not so much, bullies to new staff, wants you to be perfect first week on the job. Not inclusive at all. Was like high school all over again with groups and bullies. But if you love this ski, have a good banter and party this is the place to be. 

Time and time again I always end up back at the resort. From liftee to snow cat operations I’ve done a fair amount of work there in various areas. Great management and great teams, feels like a family and working at a resort is just a different lifestyle, some days grooming can be stressful but none the less a great atmosphere to grow. Pay is moderate to good depending on where you are and what you’re doing / workloads etc. 
10/10 recommend. 

worked as a liftie for two seasons it was a lot of fun but there were times where there was disorganization. It was always fast paced and once the locals get to know you its super fun. staff accom was so squished and way to over priced for what you get. Moving up in the company is a bit hard if you don't make friends with those higher up.

In my experience, Silverstar is a great place to work.  Management helps me when I need it, and trusts me when I don’t.  I’ve been able to learn more within my trade, and there is plenty of opportunity.  Broad range of staff all interested in living life to the fullest, I suppose it’s just the nature of being a top class ski resort in beautiful British Columbia.

Management are incredibly toxic and do not care. There is a habit of throwing a warm body at a vacancy, total disregard for the disposable seasonal employees. The core management team don’t value change, feedback or employee wellbeing. Whilst there is often a receptivity to hear about issues there is never any change, just a new batch of exploited staff who are none the wiser. 

It's a resort, so the pay is low. This resort pays even less than most others. The job culture is amazing, very laid back if you're a front line worker. It's busy during the holidays but there are a lot of slow days. Most managers are good at listening but communication between departments is terrible.

HR and Management not really kind or reliable. Groups of old employees will ALWAYS be the king of the mountain.

Getting one response or any personal level
of attention is hard. If you have low self-love, it makes everything more painful
