Let me start by saying that I worked for skip the dishes for about 2 and a half months. Some weeks I worked 2 shifts, and others I worked 5 – so I have experience working for them in a part-time and full-time capacity. Prior to starting with Skip the Dishes, I did some homework and looked into how the company treated their couriers. At the time there were quite a bit of mixed reviews, but I thought why not give it a try. Unfortunately, my experience was extremely disappointing!


The biggest thing that attracted me to work for Skip the Dishes was the flexible hours, but the scheduling system is not as flexible as you think it is. First, they only offer 4-hour shifts. If you want to work more than 4 hours a day, you have to have 2 separate shifts with long breaks in between. This system kind was disappointing because you can pick a time you're available to work, but that doesn't guarantee that you will be working those hours. For example, if you enter in your availability for 9:00 am - 5:00 pm, you would think that you would be working and doing deliveries for 8 hours straight, but that isn't the case. The scheduling system will see the 9:00 am - 5:00 pm as available hours and will give you a shift that best suits their schedule so you would be given a shift within that time range. For example, 9:45 am - 1:45 pm, 11:00 am - 3:00 pm, or 12:15 pm - 4:15 pm, etc. Now you can still get 2 shifts in one day but with my experience, I only had shifts like that when I gave them an availability of a full day. So, for example, my availability was from 7:00 am - 1:00 am and I received shifts from 9:15 am - 11:30 am and 6:30 pm - 10:30 pm. For some people, they don't have that kind of time.


SIDE NOTE: Skip the Dishes told me that If I didn’t “confirm” a shift, then that meant I wouldn’t be scheduled for that shift. So, when they had notified me of 2 shifts I could take one day and I ended up only confirming 1, they then canceled the one I DID confirm. When I asked them why they said “You didn’t cancel/confirm the other shift for that day. This is just one example of their terrible communication/process.


Now, working as a courier you should already expect expenses that will counter your earnings like gas, wear and tear on your vehicle, vehicle maintenance, data charges (because they discourage you from using Wifi). With this in mind, I always kept track of my kilometers and gas. Depending on your make and model and year of your vehicle your earnings for the day will differ. I own a 2015 Mazda 3 and I felt the gas on my car wasn't too bad but it still added up around $6-8 per shift so I would take that off of my daily earnings which averaged from $50-60 per shift including tips. (Keep in mind this is an average - there were days where I earned more or less.) This paints a picture of what their average hourly pay is, which comes to $11-13 per hour. This is well under my province’s minimum wage of $15 per hour.

On top of the poor earnings and the disappointing scheduling system, the communication and courier support is what ultimately led me to quit after only 2 and a half months.

At Skip the Dishes there are 2 modes of support for couriers - CHAT support in-app or Phone support. When hiring you they do very little training which was fine with me. There are a lot of tech-savvy people nowadays that understand how phones, apps, and GPS works. But what they insist is if there is anything wrong with the order that you speak through the CHAT system within the app for support. I have had numerous experiences with orders that have gone wrong or that the address was wrong, but when I sought the CHAT out for support there was very little effort on their end to help solve the issues. 
For example, one of the worst experiences I've had was when the customer accidentally entered the wrong address (which happens a lot). So my immediate response was to call the customer, but they had a long distance number and I did not want to incur the cost if I didn’t have to. I contacted CHAT support and gave them the rundown of the situation. I have screenshots of our conversation but unfortunately, I cannot upload them here, so here is how it went:

Me: Hi so Google Map is not bringing me to the right address.
Me: The Phone number is long distance I do not want to get charged.
Skip: Let me Contact the customer
Skip: Please Knock on the door.
Skip: I just talked to the customer.
Skip: The Customer has been waiting for the food.
Me: That is not the problem the problem is Google is sending me to a different address. might there be a mix up in the address?
Skip: Thank for the update
Me: Me please verify the address with the customer
Skip: Please put the address into your GPS. it will work.

**At this point I was extremely frustrated because they just kept telling me to input the same address that clearly does not exist in the area**

Me: I have and it still does not work
Skip: I can see that you are very close. you just need to do a U-turn and its just down the road.
Me: are you sure the house number is 150? because there is no number 150 in this area.
Skip: that is what is entered by the customer.
Skip: did you call the customer?

** So by this point I was already frustrated because for they were not helping the situation nor did they acknowledge that the address was wrong and now they wanted me to call the customer when I specifically told them at the beginning that I did not want to get charged the long distance fee.**

Due to my frustration I called the customer and got charged the long distance fee and sure enough, the customer gave me a different address because they accidentally put the wrong one in. So I proceeded to drop off the order. I then spoke with the customer and asked them if Skip the Dishes called them to verify the address. To my surprise, they said no. No one had called from Skip the Dishes to verify the address. So this showed me that courier support was not doing anything to help me out with the situation except for adding pressure to hurry up and get the order done. So at this point, I decided that my time with Skip the Dishes was done I did not want to support a company that does not support me and my efforts in any way. 

I called courier phone support and told them about the whole issue and told them that I would be resigning from Skip the Dishes. They encouraged me to finish the shift, but I declined. They asked if I could speak with a team lead about my issues which I was happy to do because I wanted them to know why I was quitting and I wanted to give some feedback so they could improve their service and processes. I booked a time to have a conversation with the team lead over the phone like they had asked me to do, but they never called me. 


So the bottom line is that Skip the Dishes do not care about their couriers. As long as they have a constant influx of people applying they do not care how bad their turn over rates are. I would strongly encourage people to think twice before applying because I can guarantee you that you will not be making a decent amount of money and that Skip the Dishes does not have your back when it comes to orders. SKIP THE DISHES DOES NOT DESERVE YOUR TIME AND EFFORT.

Like a lot of drivers I loved it at the start. I worked it as a side job on top of my full time job and made about 300 to 500 a week on average working 20 to 30 hours a week. 
My very first shift was crazy good, constant orders and good tips, I made 120 dollars in 4 hours and spent about 15 dollars on gas at the end of the shift. Pretty good profit for just starting a new job. 
From reading other reviews this is part of the scam apparently, and it worked on me. I never again made that much in that little time, but I was hooked on that first successful shift. They must prioritize orders and good tips to new couriers as a manipulation tactic. 
Lately it's been just horrible. Delivery fees are down, why in the world would I drive 15 km to a customer living in the middle of nowhere where I won't get matched to another order, just for a 5 dollar delivery fee? Even with a 3 dollar tip which is about the lowest it's worth delivering for you're barely making any money for your time. 
Another thing, the customers suck and have no idea how little money we make. They don't tip and then wonder why the delivery takes 2 hours or doesn't get delivered at all. Such a waste of time and money for everyone. 
For the couriers: I get matched to a no tip or low tip order and have to wait usually 5 to 20 minutes for the order to be reassigned by the "support" team. Not making any money and just sitting around. 
For the customer: Pay for the food and don't get it delivered or it takes forever because you tip poorly. Only stupid or desperate drivers are dumb enough to deliver to you and it'll take awhile to get matched. I feel bad you're not getting the food you payed for but at the same time you should know that we choose to deliver or not, we deliver to make money not for charity. Even if we do get decent tips sometimes we don't make much considering our many expenses. ADVICE FOR SKIP THE DISHES CUSTOMERS: Tip at least 5 dollars and you will get your food in a reasonable amount of time. I have never waited longer than an hour because I always tip well and not like an idiot. If you can afford 20 dollars for one burger or whatever for a single meal you can afford to tip decent. If you can't afford to tip get off your lazy butt and pick up the food yourself or be smart with your money and cook a nice meal at home for much cheaper. Skip the Dishes will provide you horrible service if you don't tip well, and it should do that. The company has almost no power over employees (couriers), there's no way to compel us to deliver to you if there's no financial incentive to do so. You attract good service and fast deliveries with your money. If you do not tip well or not at all, you don't deserve your food delivered. You clearly don't value my labour so why should you get it? It's basically exploitation to expect deliveries for no tips, it's like 4 dollars an hour maybe after our expenses. 
Restaurants get screwed over a lot too. Skip takes such a big cut that they barely make any profit. This is made even worse by customers who tip bad, couriers won't deliver those orders and the restaurant wastes time and resources making the food only to throw it away later because nobody wants to waste time delivering for no money. Restaurants give Skip deliveries low priority and us couriers often have to wait a long time for the food. I don't even blame the restaurants because Skip deliveries get low priority because they are less profitable and often don't even get delivered, why waste that money when you don't have to split the profit on dine in customers. It's a crime how badly Skip screws over restaurants, yet they have to have Skip in order to stay competitive with other restaurants. 
I don't even know how Skip makes any money as a company at this point. Us drivers turn down so many orders that they must have to compensate the customers and restaurants for, and have a big staff to deal with all the complaints and courier problems. 
Possible Solution
All sorts of solutions are probably thought of, mine is pretty basic and I'm sure there are some problems with it. My solution is just raise the delivery fee. Customers are confused about why they are not getting their food and it's because it's not worth it for the couriers. There's a hidden mandatory cost of a decent tip or else the food will most likely not get delivered or be hours late. Usually I'll deliver food if the tip is about equal to the delivery fee. (Example: 3.45 drive fee 3.45 tip equals 6.90). And that's what the minimum delivery fee should be, 1.5 to 2 times what it is now. (Not expecting more than 15 dollars for a delivery). For longer drives and higher delivery fees it makes sense up to a point because of the extra time and hassle the long drives take. It's worth it to the driver but we're still not making that much even at that pay rate considering other expenses. Customers need to know that Skip is an expensive service, tips are the only thing that make it worth it for drivers. Most customers are too dumb to understand that, so it should be made mandatory. Obviously customers won't be forced to tip, but the delivery fee should be enough that they are basically forced to pay as if they were tipping an average to decent tip. Poor people who can't afford the service (non tippers) would stop wasting everyone's time by ordering, and people that can afford it would have tipped that good anyways so it isn't a problem for them. With a decent delivery fee pay rate I would no longer expect or care about a tip as profitability would be guaranteed. In fact tipping should not even be on option on the app at that point, customers can tip cash after services rendered for very fast delivery and exceptional service, no one's stopping them and that's how it should be anways, I don't know how it makes sense to tip before you even know if you're getting good service.
CONCLUSION: Skip the Dishes is a service for people who can afford to pay the driver 6 to 15 dollars for delivery depending on distance. I know food is expensive but it is for everyone, you're paying for our service so think about that, we don't have to deliver to you. 
SKIP THE DISHES is a horrible company with an extremely flawed business model leading to inevitable dissatisfaction for all parties involved.

Considering couriers are the core members of their business, they have very POOR app & customer support:

The App:
1.after the latest update on opening up other zones,  they had added other zones to pick up open shifts & displays my preferred zone very rarely
2. When having multiple scheduled shifts in a day, app allows courier to end shift earlier by half an hour. If shift ends earlier, app doesn’t check in on next shift. 
3. App do not consistently display customer reviews since the new updates. I had 12 orders yesterday & I never had one single review! I am pretty sure I had at least one positive one!
4. When customer has a phone number outside the coverage area ie long distance, masked phone number on the app drops the call.
5. App allows 0 tips. Higher transit fees should be charged to orders in condos & those customers who requires to be called to buzz & wait times. 
6. App does not auto-calculate additional wait times in the restaurant nor at the customer. Note that Skip says it does but during payday, it doesn’t!

Courier Support:
1. Ask them to reach out to Customer but they rarely do 
2. Too slow response. Busy on calls & chat all the time
3. Inconsistent! Yesterday, I had a delivery to a condo - which as usual had to be called to buzz. At 2:42 pm when I parked at customer, I called the customer number (masked) 5x but the call was dropping. I also texted the number, no response. I opened a chat with Courier support & sought help for them to contact the customer & told them my dilemma. @ 2:48pm, I was asked to wait 7 more minutes then contact them again. At 2:52 still no customer on sight, I chatted with them again. They advised me to mark the order as delivered & keep it until the end of my shift & continue to my next order. I followed, took my next matched order & left.
While delivering my next 2 orders, & driving on the road Skip called & told me to go back to the previous delivery point of the previous order. They insisted me to call the customer on his long distance number! They said they would pay me for the transit but not on the LD call. They asked me to pull over the busy road on my current delivery to jot down the number. Gosh! These people sitting in the comforts of their offices do NOT care about distracted driving! I had no choice but to pullover & caused delay on my current delivery. They do not care if you’re on the road or your road safety - they just push you to do what they say. I am guessing that when I asked to contact the customer, they didn’t do it. They just proceeded with the protocol to wait 7 minutes then told me to mark the order as delivered. I delivered my current order & headed back to the other one. Of course the customer was very unhappy. His food turned cold after almost an hour of waiting. I showed him my phone calls, the masked number as well as the unanswered text messages. I told customer support that there is a bug on the app that needs to be fixed: calls made on their masked number drops when redirecting to a long distance number of the customer. I requested them to report it to their IT but I doubt if they did. On the contrary, they just apologized but I suffered the consequences. See below:

I don’t know what happened. All I know is orders were very very slow & orders matched to me afterwards were under $9 worse almost all had 0 tips! I only earned $90 for 7 hours when I used to earn $17-20 per hour. 

They would bump you down on courier standing  for orders with issues even if it wasn’t the courier’s fault! I see this had been the trend - courier competition is tough with this company. 

It used to be okay but when they offered other zones for me to pick up which I didn’t want to, my orders went down & reviews were scarce. I feel like they want me to pick up deliveries to other zones which I don’t want to!

This is the worst place to work. If you’re thinking of trying it, DON’T. 

I started working for Skip when I was waiting for a new job to start and was completely desperate and going to the food bank. After my new job started, I needed to catch up on the bills I had accumulated while unemployed. After that, since my new job only pays once a month (ugh)  I haven’t been able to break free from convience of getting paid every week. 

Skip doesn’t give a flying f about it’s drivers or the restaurants they have “partnered” with, they only care about themselves and their stupid customers. As far as drivers, they are taking advantage of good people who want to work hard and make extra income. Restaurants are on the hook for any costs incurred if anything goes wrong from the customer ordering and the driver making the delivery. They are on the hook for those expenses even though 99% of the time, it’s the stupid customer that has caused the quality of the delivery to go down. 

Example of the worst customer ever: A cash-ordering non-tipping customer orders food, lives far away either downtown where there is no parking or in the North End where there is the possibly of being robbed, lives in an apartment, doesn’t indicate an apartment number, or a buzz code, and doesn’t answer the drivers calls when the driver arrives and realizes it’s not a house, nor are they waiting at the door. What happens is that the driver has to wait around for seven minutes, wasting their time, until Skip let’s them know they can move on to the next order. Okay, great, the driver ends up with free food. But then the poor restaurant has to pay for the food to be sent out again — all because of the customer. 

Not all customers are stupid. Some are amazing! I only hate the ones that don’t tip. I refuse to take any order that lists “$0.00” as the tip, which is a specific and deliberate act by the customer. Those customers can taste the space between my lower cheeks lol. I’m not working for free for no tips orders. If you’re a customer reading this, hey your order is taking two hours to deliver because let me guess you didn’t tip so no driver wants to deliver your food. If it’s tsking three hours and you did tip, it’s just busy or there is a parade or you ordered from a restaurant downtown during rush hour (I mean, duh). 

The ONLY Thing that deserves respect are (most) drivers. I see another driver and I say hi and smile and nod. Because they’re awesome and hard working and they don’t deserve to drive in dangerous driving conditions, for no tip, or to wait around for lazy customers who can’t be bothered to give an apartment number or buzz code. 

Skip only stays open because there are desperate people out there who will keep taking jobs as drivers, and they are aware of this and take full advantage. So don’t start driving for Skip in the first place! Don’t order food from them either. They take a huge cut of the order from the restaurant. Good advise is put on pants and pick up your own food.

Been doing this part time for a couple of weeks in the Burnaby/New West area. To be honest its not bad and I am actually making a decent profit. Beware of not having correct insurance doing this, the policy cost me an extra $125 a month, thanks ICBC! Anyway, I average 2 runs an hour, 4 hours a day. The runs have been netting me an average of 10 dollars each. Lets keep in mind I am doing this in a $1500 4cyl Nissan that is very reliable and good on gas, and I can do most of its maintenance myself for cheap. And I souped it up a little just for fun.

I estimate I use less than $2 fuel an hour, and the extra insurance is running about $125 a month. So for me doing this part time, lets say driving six days a week, 4 hours a shift my total monthly expense would be something like this....

Insurance: $125 a month / 104 working hours = $1.20/hr
Gas: $2 x 104 hours = 208/monthly
Maintenance: Hard to say, but lets go to the extreme here and say I break a car every year doing this, or at least put its value back into itself each year in parts/fluids and my time each year.      

Total years working hours (24x52) 1,248

$1500/1248 hours= 1.20/hr

Total expense per hour = 4.40 

***This does not consider $75 one time expense for bags!***

This means that the 20 dollars an hour I get is more realistically about 15.60. Still that's not a terrible wage for a part time, casual job.

So here is my advice to anyone considering doing this in point form,

1. Get a used Japanese car no newer than 2005, learn how to do your own oil changes and basic maintenance. Even shocks and breaks are not very difficult and you save a fortune doing it yourself. Don't use a newer car that's complicated to fix.

2. Drive at least 20 hours a week, more is better. This will make the extra insurance worth your while. And don't just assume you can get away without it. You get in a bad wreck, get knocked out and they find that app running on your phone and food in the bag, your screwed my friend.

3. Find areas in your assigned zone that has the highest concentration of restaurants and hang out there. I'm lucky to live close to several areas like this, you may not.

4. Actually give good service! I was not getting much for orders until I started getting good reviews back. About 20% of my customers take the time to review me, and its been 100% positive. Driver rating is everything to the algorithm that decides who does what on this system.

The last thing I should mention here is the possible tax issue. They claim not to report earnings to CRA, and they don't take your social insurance number. They do say they issue a statement of earnings each year, but do not send a tax form of any kind to anyone. This could be good or bad. Full disclosure. Also the courier support is hit and miss.   

Bottom line is, if your a gear head who likes to drive ratty little cars around and has 20 hours a week to spare, this might be an option. If your going to do this once in awhile in your brand new car, don't bother you will lose money.

I started working for Skip in 2016, took a break and came back in 2020 and I have to say, the Skip system is way better.

The biggest advances are in the courier software app updates. I also feel there are algorithms in place to ensure couriers make at least $20 per hour.

For this reason, I accept all offers sent to me because it all evens out in the end of the day.

A typical day entails driving to an area you may want to work in and wait to be linked to an offer. Once you are, the offer system kicks in and you will soon learn which area you will be working in. Some are better than others and that is just the way it is. When you are close to the end of your shift you will be asked to extend or sign out early. It is usually to sign out early if asked as there are most likely not orders.

What I learned:

1. Best to accept all orders and be a team player.

2. When arriving at a restaurant, don't stress about waiting. This is a part of the job and it is better to have a good relationship with vendors as they are people too.

3. If you arrive at a restaurant and the wait is 15 minutes or longer, let dispatch know so they can assign a new driver and the restaurant wont get penalized. If you need to wait, you may want to let the customer know you are delayed but this means their food will be fresh off the grill.

4. Understand that online delivery is different than dine in. Dine in is limited by number of seats. Online is unlimited. I have been to places that have so many orders and some old lady is trying to figure things out. Having been a line cook back in the day this is super stressful for that person. Sometimes it is better to be understanding of that person's situation. 

5. Always treat people with kindness and smile. This makes a huge difference and you can make friends. 

Management:

Anytime I have sent an email to management I always receive a prompt response.

Workplace Culture:

There is not much opportunity to develop workplace culture, however I take every opportunity to talk with other couriers and ask how they are. We all come from varied backgrounds but face the same circumstances, challenges and dangers on the job. I wish there was an online blog for us to share advice and tips.

Hardest part of the job:

Probably the hardest part is trying to locate delivery locations due to GPS issues and addresses not easy to see or read. 

Also, but rarely, we are sometimes subject to dangerous situations in the course of a delivery. This part of the job and I would feel better if there was some type of alert system in place.

Most enjoyable part of the job:

If you like driving, this job is fun. Also, it is good to know about the many vendors in the city. When meeting other drivers there is a feeling of camaraderie. Getting paid each week is great but it would be better if we were paid on Monday.

Summary:

Skip the Dishes has a great infrastructure for the food delivery service industry. It is not a perfect system, but I do not know of any perfect system.

Having worked this job for over a year and making over 2000 deliveries, I can say with confidence that you should not think about this job as a full time/part time job. This job is strictly a way to make extra cash while employed with another business, and to try and make a living with this job alone is not possible.

The amount of gas you'll use and the wear and tear it puts on your vehicle will also make it impossible to work this job often unless you have a way of repairing your vehicle on a major discount.

Shifts are 3 - 4 hours long and depending on what availability you take and what time of the year it is, your earnings will vary A LOT. The job will become stagnant for deliveries when the snow melts.

Another problem is the stigma the business has developed from the quality of the drivers they hire. As a customer and driver, I have witnessed other drivers ignore the instructions given to them, run their own errands during deliveries, and even mishandle the delivery. You're being tracked as long as you're on shift for delivery purposes, so the only time you should be doing your own errands is between deliveries or during a pause you can give yourself on the app. Drinks are difficult to keep steady in the delivery bag alone so alternatives should be looked into to secure them (ie. use your vehicle's cup holders if necessary). Have an understanding of reading/writing the English language as your instructions will be given to you in English and not following them WILL be noted by customers. I also recommend having a understanding of the traffic in your area; often the reasons deliveries are late is often because a driver gets caught in traffic, especially during winter storms and cottagers travelling through the area. But sometimes a delivery gets lost in the system during peak hours; resulting in a driver having to deal with an angry customer, business owner because of an error on the system's end. Skip has been working on fixing this issue and I believe recent updates have helped to mitigate this issue.

Finally, be prepared for tax season. Skip has gotten better at providing discounts and necessary information for taxes, but you are technically self-employed. Monitor your mileage, gas receipts, vehicle repair expenses, and your delivery fee/tip earnings. Skip will provide a total of your earnings for the tax year, but it is best to save copies of your weekly earnings for security. Tax season alone proved to me that this job is impossible to operate without a primary form of income. 

I personally enjoyed working for Skip when they first opened business in Barrie, but I have done enough deliveries to understand that you cannot work this job without another source of income and a firm understanding for customer service, the English language, and the local traffic.

I'm just going to lay it out there using actual examples of orders you will be given so you can decide for yourself if the job is worth it.  23 kms, to deliver well outside of your delivery zone. That's 23 kms from the restaurant to the customer, excluding any additional km you drive to come back. Pay-$11.50. Many orders will be 5 km or more paying under $4. Yes you will get some really nice tips, but without them, you will lose money doing this job. Between filling your car up with gas, wear and tear, oil changes, replacing parts here and there, wear on your tires, many of the orders you do get simply aren't worth it. I've had orders paying as low as $2.99. That's not only insulting, it's surprising they don't ask you to just go ahead and buy the food for the customer, and maybe throw them an extra $3 at the door to be nice. Get real. Nobody can afford to deliver for such paltry pay. While it has to be profitable for the restaurant, Skip and the courier, those margins shouldn't be milked out of the couriers. Customers that expect delivery for the bare minimum delivery fee are part of the problem. Don't believe that you will get cash tips upon delivery. This is extremely rare.On average, you'll complete most  minimum paying orders without any tip at all, further eating into your profits. Yes, absolutely some people will tip in cash for good service but even with outstanding service, those tips are rare. Very rare. At the end of the day you're providing a service for very low pay. To provide that service, you have operating expenses that you'll need to factor into your earnings to determine if the job is worth your time and trouble. You need proper insurance on your car so that will also add to your operating expenses. With transit pay seemingly shrinking, distances for delivery increasing, it's hard to imagine anyone sticking with this job for very long, which is a shame because the flexibility is great. But that's all that's great. Also, depending on where you're located, there may be other delivery zones that are even less profitable, pushing those drivers out into your usual zone to pick up shifts. That creates a courier saturated zone and results in fewer orders, or, those really long distances that don't pay. You're picking up the slack to go into delivery zones other couriers have left, and getting really poor transit pay for them. Skip will be the masters of their own failure in the long run. They hire anyone, there's no incentive for good drivers, they have too many couriers in a single zone, they cut transit pay. All that will be left will be dissatisfied customers. You only need to go so far as customer reviews online and on Facebook to see how ridiculously unhappy many people are with the service. Try it out and decide for yourself if it's worth your time. Give it more than a week. At first, it'll seem great. That won't last.

I started Skip The Dishes this past summer as a side hustle like many Courier drivers, and it was great. The pay averaged out to about $20/hour with tips. I love driving anyways so worked out perfectly.

Recently, Skip has reduced the transit fee pay for deliveries and this is the reason for me to switch to their competitors. Myself and other courier drivers cannot believe our eyes they would have the boldness to start paying us $2.75-$4.00 for short distance deliveries. 

How can any Skip courier be motivated to drive when they know in advance they are getting paid peanuts now? Job is not hard at all and no stress other than rush hour traffic shifts....but it is very demotivating to drive to restaurant, find parking, park your car, grab your bag, go inside the restaurant, unless they make you wait and are not ready, grab the food, drive to customer location, sometimes they want you buzz deliver up the building or walk to the back of the house....for under $5.00 or NO TIPS

This company does not like to take blame for faults and would rather pass the blame. Skip would match us to an order to drive all the way out to the University of British Columbia for some hungry student, and would not match you with an order to get you out of the university campus. They expect YOU to use your own gas to drive out of there so you can be matched with an order. Wowz. When you call them out on why, the Skip rep simply says they have no control over who gets assigned orders it is the system that does this. You are telling me the system does not see me sitting there waiting 15-30mins on campus for an order?

This is BS because if they have the power to reassign orders for us, they absolutely have the power to assign orders. I agree that the system generates orders but someone HAS TO BE supervising/monitoring the map They are very secretive when it comes to how distance pay is calculated and how the system works. They just keep saying its the system that generates the orders and pay. BS.

When there are glitches with the app, the rep does not take notes so they can hand it to the respective department in the company to address it. They tell you to call this 1800-courier success number to report it. Do you really expect us with our busy modern lives to spend our personal time calling you to report a problem YOUR app created?

It has been a great experience with Skip this past summer as a side hustle but I will start reducing my work shifts with them and going to a competitor. They OVER-HIRE for drivers with their recent marketing campaign and now have to reduce pay maybe for this reason or they are struggling financially leading to the reduced transit fee pay for couriers.

You will be in charge of maintaining and abusing your own vehicle for as many hours as you choose to work. Between maintenance and fuel costs of your own vehicle you can expect to earn less than minimum wage on most days. You are basically praying on good orders and the generosity of customers tips to allow you to make enough to just barely get by. The hours are very flexible and you can basically make your own schedule which kind of makes you your own boss essentially which is the only positive. Many slow periods of waiting on orders sitting somewhere in your car for long periods of time with nothing but expense occuring. Also new application updates have made it so you must be driving to a restaraunt in a short period of time or you will lose your order and acceptance raiting will be impacted(i got caught waiting for a train and contacted support and told them i was waiting and even though they said it was fine my order was given away and my rating was dropped within 10 minutes of waiting and after trying to contact them after they just continued with automated responses saying you must keep moving or order is lost). Virtually no support from the assistance team aside from automated robotic responses when you have any questions which has gotten worse as the years pass. (You used to be able to contact support anytime. But now you must currently be on an order to even talk to them, which if you do, will be met only with automated responses and no real help to the situations you are faced with, and usually zero sympathy). The application is full of glitches and errors that constantly work out in the applications favour and never the drivers meaning you will get scammed out of restaurant delay reimbursements, longer trip distances than were originally quoted, and just general errors that will make you take the hit for and not them. They also dont deduct any taxes from your income so if you do work for them barely making anything, expect to pay back a large portion in taxes at the end of the year(which you probly cant afford after paying for all your fuel and maintenance and barely making minimum wage). Super flexible schedule job, but you will be making next to nothing and stressing whether or not you will be homeless if your car decides it needs a major repair/tax season comes. Pair that with no benefits and no chance at employment insurance if anything bad should happen to you and you cant work(because you are declared an independent contractor), you can expect a very stressful job experience working here.
