Slater Vecchio is a firm that preaches fairness but in truth your experience will be based on your family relationships or whether you are identified as a favorite. You are only valued at Slater Vecchio as a replaceable cog that is overworked, no regard is given to the mental health and well being of their staff and if you struggle professionally or personally, this will be held against you. The hierarchy and separation between management/lawyers and staff is prevalent, you are constantly reminded of your lesser role. When files settle, no acknowledgment is given to the staff for their role in managing very difficult and demanding clients. Team leaders, HR and Partners do nothing to help new staff feel welcome and are unapproachable and standoffish. Nothing is confidential at Slater Vecchio, if you confide anything to HR, it will be known firm wide. 

Prior to COVID, Slater Vecchio paid top of the market and had good social perks, which made the factors above somewhat bearable. The social perks and good pay are gone now. This is not a positive work environment and has very high staff turnover, there is a reason they are ALWAYS hiring.  Stay away.

The Partners are caring, generous and value the hard work we all do on a daily basis. The HR department ensures you have the support you need to do the best you can in your jobs every day. The lawyers are professional and personable. Team leads and coworkers are always there to help.  The supportive and collaborative efforts as a team make this firm a great place to work. This is a fast-paced environment and I am expected to work hard but I do feel rewarded, recognized and appreciated for all that I do.

To say I love this Firm is an understatement.  They have exceeded all my expectations.  Yes, you work hard and there is a volume of work but I see this as a positive.  

What really makes this Firm stand out to me is the commitment of the partners—they ensure that every employee feels appreciated and supported.  This is supplemented by a Human Resources Team who takes appreciation to the next level.

I love my colleagues.  They are great people who genuinely know that the work we do is very important.  We support one another through the day to day challenges and that is so important to me

This firm is on a hybrid remote model, with 2 days in office and 3 days remote. They understand that their workers are human beings and that life happens so they are really flexible and accommodating. 

I felt supported, both professionally and personally, while working here. My input was valued and I had complete trust from the lawyers to do my job the way I wanted to. I take great pride in my work and I was recognized and awarded when I demonstrated exceptional performance.

The previous HR was really disconnected from the staff (and reality) but the new HR director is wonderful.

I only left Slater Vecchio to follow my calling for a different type of job but I was devastated to leave behind the partners and the wonderful people.

If you are a consistent top performer, you can expect appropriate recognition, opportunities and compensation.

The firm has a strong, supportive culture — people genuinely care about one another and about doing great work. The partners are approachable, collaborative, and always willing to listen or offer help when needed.

There’s definitely a high volume of work, but there’s also a lot of support available. You’re surrounded by bright, engaged people who are invested in the firm’s success and in helping each other succeed. The hybrid work model has also been a huge benefit — it allows for a healthy balance between being in the office for collaboration and having the flexibility to work from home when needed.

I’ve especially enjoyed being part of such an entrepreneurial team, particularly with all the exciting and meaningful work happening in the Class Actions space. It’s inspiring to work alongside people who are constantly looking for new and better ways to work and push the practice forward.

Overall, it’s a place where hard work is valued, ideas are encouraged, and people truly want to see each other do well — which makes for a great environment to grow and contribute.

I worked at Slater Vecchio just over two years as an administrator/office assistant before making the decision to go back to school full time. I really enjoyed my time at the firm and a lot of stigmas were broken of what I thought a Law firm should be like. The lawyers treat their staff with a lot of respect and appreciation. I felt immediately welcome and given the amount of training, I was comfortable getting into my role. 

I think at the time when ICBC changed their rules, they were forced to make a lot of changes and a lot of people were not willing to evolve and change with the company and negative feelings manifested. I left shortly after to go to school, but I believe that is where most of the bad reviews were about.   

They give a lot, but they also expect a lot. Would definitely consider them as a future employer and would recommend them to anyone looking for a professional firm with endless possibilities. 

Slater Vecchio is the most toxic work culture I have ever experienced. The work loads are heavy and there is segregation between lawyers and the support staff. While the technology is current the firm is structured as an assembly line and staff are consistently reminded they are replaceable. Employees are undervalued and seen as disposable. The Director of Human Resources and managing partner are the main problem with this firm. Nothing can be brought up to HR without serious consequences. Employees are regularly let go for speaking up or voicing their concerns and as a result staff are scared of HR. The overall morale at Slater Vecchio is incredibly low so the firm offers perks as a bandaid to mask the underlying issues instead of addressing them. Turnover is incredibly high. I highly do not recommend working at this firm and would avoid it at all costs.

Slater Vecchio LLP is more than your everyday law firm. At Slater Vecchio, client care is by far their top priority, always going over and above what is expected of by your typical law firm. Client's needs will always come first, regardless if has anything to do with an ongoing case or not. 

Slater Vecchio not only look after their clients extremely well, but their employees can expect to receive very generous perks and competitive salaries that are ranked at the very top of the scale.  

I would recommend Slater Vecchio to be the best in the business for personal injuries claims and up there as one of the best places to work in if you are caring, compassionate and a hard working individual.

- Can be quite high stress if you are unable to time manage or multi-task well.  Knowing what to prioritize is key!

Overall, I really enjoy the work and responsibilities in the LAA role.  I find all the lawyers and case managers easy to talk to and very approachable (which can be difficult to find in other law firms). The firm treats their employees well.  I always feel appreciated.

Working at Slater Vecchio is never boring. It is constantly growing, so you never become stagnant. Each day is an adventure! 

They hire a lot of positions internally, so you do not ever need to worry about lack of advancement. If you apply yourself, you will be recognized for your effort. Overall, the management team is very fair and want to see you grow professionally. 

The benefits are amazing, good working hours, fantastic pay and awesome team environment.
