Snuggle Bugz

I worked for Snuggle Bugz from 2016 to 2018. The way Snuggle Bugz operates is totally different than alot of companies. In 2017 the owner of Snuggle Bugz and the executive team rolled out a new entrepreneurial operating system that completely changed how the company is run. 

If you want to succeed at Snuggle Bugz, show them what you can do! It's as simple as that. Actions speak louder than words, right? 

Working at Snuggle Bugz was very different from what I was used to in my past careers. I can promise you, it won't be anything like what you expect - Here's a great example. No one has offices. Not even the owner. The office is a team environment.

If you have a question for the owner, ask it! He even holds very regular AMA (ask me anything) sessions open to any employee who wants to take part where you can ask him any questions you have. 

If you want to expand your knowledge base, get involved in Snuggle Bugz University (SBU) courses! The executive team runs workshops about everything from how to budget your personal finances to emotional intelligence. Guarantee you'll learn something you didn't know before. I was involved in a number of them. 

I worked on the web team for Snuggle Bugz, supporting all of our web properties behind the scenes. I put my nose to the grindstone, showed them the value I could bring to the company and regularly got feedback and recognition which helped me to further my career with Snuggle Bugz. You even get to have 1 on 1 meetings with your manager on a bi-weekly basis to talk about anything you want - a problem you're stuck on, career advancement planning, personal problems - you set the agenda. 

Not a lot of companies promote this type of family oriented culture, enjoy it. It's rare. 

I feel like I'm a walking poster child for Snuggle Bugz with this review, but I just felt it was important to note a few things, as reading through the other comments I can't help but notice that's its totally not like that, at least not anymore. Not from my perspective. Form your own opinion, seriously. You'll be pleasantly surprised.

I enjoy my Job at Snuggle Bugz. I think the work environment is supportive, excellence-focused, and ever-evolving. The management team takes feedback seriously and tries hard to make changes accordingly. In the time I've been here, they've done numerous employee surveys and tried to address every issue that's been brought to light. This includes pay, benefits, coffee flavours, work-from-home opportunities, and much more.

I will say that Snuggle Bugz is a growth-focused company and demands excellence. So, the work is hard, and you will be constantly pushed to take things to the next level and improve. I personally don't see this as a problem, and I enjoy that challenge. However, if you are expecting a small family business vibe with a super relaxed approach to work, that is not what you will find. You will find a team who certainly supports each other and want to see everyone enjoying their job. Still, you will also find a group of people pushing for excellence and working hard to do so with meaningful expectations of the people around them.

You will have plenty of opportunities to learn and take on new challenges. There will be lots of opportunities to take risks and try new ideas. So, if you want to push their career further and learn from your managers, this is an excellent place to work because there is no shortage of opportunities. 

It's also important to note that snuggle Bugz is a large company. There are multiple retail stores, a large warehouse team and multiple departments within the head office team. Not every experience will be the same, and not every department will have the same praises or complaints. 

The people you work with closely are very friendly, and for the most part the team looks out for each other.  There is a big gap with management and anyone underneath them - I think some tensions with that are people are trying to move up the ladder and anyone in a management position fears not being viewed as doing well so they put a lot of pressure on their team to get the work done.  This is unfair to the managers and the team.  Most people who try to talk to the higher ups about the demands and pressures they are facing don't tend to receive much positive feedback or coaching.  They tend to get a wordy response about company culture, excellence and needing to go above and beyond or having to find another job if they can't handle it." 

Their company culture and values are shoved down your throat really quickly, from the time you start interviewing.  Its something that is expected to retain asap!  After a few months you quickly learn that they do a great job of projecting an image for the outside world to see but don't always live up to their definition of culture with their own employees.  

You learn very quickly that there is this invisible ceiling between your management and your immediate team (store, warehouse, etc) which is common in most work places but is really odd considering the company is not actually that big in comparison to offices with 200 + employees and the gap seems so huge!  You are sometimes treated like a number while being expected to be a team player with the other employees you are expected to get to know quickly.

I had the pleasure of working within the Snuggle Bugs family for three years. I enjoyed my job each day because I was able to work hands on with growing families and friends to make the right choices to fit their lifestyle. I loved being able to build relationships and interact with new and regular visitors. Snuggle Bugs carries such well researched and quality products that there is always something that you can suggest to anyone coming in. I always felt confident giving information or recommending a certain item. 

The hardest part is of the job is learning about all the different products, but it is well worth the training and time. If you are genuinely passionate about people and learning about the products you will love this job. Parents come in looking to us for advice in navigating different situations or milestones in their families and it was always so rewarding getting to be apart of this journey with them. 

The management was always so flexible and supportive of me and I truly felt part of a family. I miss them. The team at Snuggle Bugz genuinely cares about helping each employee grow in their position and their product knowledge and reaching there maximum potential. There are often opportunities to take on other roles within the company as well.

I would highly recommend working with the Snuggle Bugz family and it is still the place I recommend to my friends and family if they need anything related to babies and the early child years.

I'm so glad I left this job. 

Management are snobs and have favourite employees. If you aren't one of the favourites you basically don't exist and will be ignored. I wasn't a favourite and can count on one hand how many times I spoke with the owners - and I worked in the SAME office.

You get one unpaid half hour break for working 8.5hrs and expected to eat at your desk and continue working (unless you are warehouse staff)

You will never be praised for work you've done, only told to work harder and faster and told you HAVE TO stay late or work on your days off or you'll be fired. You're constantly being scrutinized for every little thing you do and spoken down to, as if you are a child. Don't get up and go get a drink of water unless you want to be pulled into the office and yelled at for it.

There was a lot of "he said/she said" rumour starting when I was there. I was sworn at a few times by one of the management team. Due to having no HR department, my complaints were swept under the rug and I was told "You made it happen for asking dumb questions" by the owner of the company. 

They consistently messed up my paychecks and paid me less than what I was supposed to get and when I enquired I was given attitude by my supervisor. Then it took two more paydays to be reimbursed the money I was owed. 

You will only ever get min. wage. Don't ask for a raise because you won't get it. Owners are cheap and don't care about their employees.

Working at Snuggle Bugz started off as my Part Time " fun job", I quickly fell in love with the philosophies of the company and customers who I had the pleasure of interacting with! 

This isn't a normal retail job, you are making a difference in people's lives. I would have women come in who were looking for help and guidance, and I was able to help them, make them feel better by educating them and helping them choose the right products for themselves and they families. 
They would leave feeling confident, and happy and would come back in to tell what a wonderful experience they had shopping with us!

 I wanted to work with a company who would understand and appreciate that I had a family too, and I wanted to make both things work. Snuggle Bugz offered me hours that would work with my kids school schedules so I could really do both without feeling like I was letting anyone down! The hours of the stores are very reasonable so even if you work on evening and weekends you are left with ample time to spend with your family. 

I only wish this store was around when I had my kids, there is real value in  what this company is doing and I'm so glad I got to be apart of it.

This business is in big trouble and unless the "Executive Team" wakes up and makes some changes they are going to continue to hemorrhage skilled, competent employees. The atmosphere in the office is horribly toxic and negative- people are largely overworked and SIGNIFICANTLY underpaid. Management and owner seem to believe the key to solving morale issues is Facebook groups, pancake breakfasts and Friday cakes. In actuality, what staff are desperate for is better pay, more job security, more transparency, better training, and for goodness sake: hire more people instead of having every department stretched so thin they are close to breaking points. 
Owner seems to be under the delusion that if you ignore the problems and try to promote positivity suddenly everything will change. There is nobody to talk to about grievances, nobody to go to when you need help. Executive management in that company is turning a blind eye to what anyone needs to be happy and fulfilled at work. 

I would love to give a better review of this company but there are so many issues right now that it would be next to impossible for me to recommend that anyone work there.

Its a great company and the staff are amazing, like family. I cant say breaks are that great. We work 8.5 hours a day and only get a half an hour lunch not paid for. A few months ago they decided finally that we can have one more break for 10 minutes in the morning. They could definitely work on that part of it. We come in and say good morning and chat a minute or two. Work right away. I pack and ship all day. If we need help for example: we are missing something for that order. We would then ask a picker to check on that and see if they can find it or see if we have it. The people are the best. Very friendly. We have baked goodies sometimes or someone will bring in coffee and donuts for everyone. We dressed up in our warehouse and front office for halloween. Hardest part of the job is not having enough breaks to re charge our batteries a little. And no reviews or raise since I started there. For anyone. No HR department. I have needed someone to talk to at my work. I believe that is all I would like to share about us. Thank you.

I worked for the company for quite awhile and saw how horrible this place really is. Not only is the company bleeding out money like crazy, but the structure of the company is an absolute joke. The owner is convinced he is the best thing to grace the business world but in reality he needs to step down and either sell this sinking ship, or let someone else manage it. Staff are poorly paid, no room for advancement, and while everyone in the office has cake and fun days, the staff in stores bust their butts and get nothing. No morale, no incentives. Managers get a raise? NO. Doesn't matter if you spend 50 hours a week to keep the store going, no raise, no thank you... nothing. Stay away from this place. You will end up hating it so badly and hate everything about head office. They hired someone to help with the issues that staff are facing... to help boost morale, but she has no credentials and just made the stores pay for and make their own pancakes... she is the owners puppet. It is frustrating that wages are low, but the company has enough money to keep this employee... absolutely insane.

I worked here for 1 day and quit. I had told the manager I was only available a few days before the summer started since it was a long commute from my college for a part time job, but the manager scheduled me anyways. Very difficult to get the manager to understand what you're saying and you have to explain everything multiple times. 

Other than that, training was.... interesting. I've never started a job and been thrown into it like I had with this job. Within 30 minutes I was on cash, which wasn't an issue. But I had minimal knowledge on baby products but was expected to help customers. You pretty much have to make it up as you go or follow another person around all day. For some things, you learn from experience but definitely not everything. 

Overall, super glad I got out of there when I did. Seems like people come and go often.
