Lateral dysfunction is commonplace at this work establishment.   Management has poor communication practices and does not provide clarity leading to burnout and employee fatigue.    The Executive Director entices workers and managers into attractive projects but then changes the expectations and goals without warning.   Sometimes a typical day is simply catching up to tech issues,  people leaving and not enough staff.    A few good workers trying hard to help clients but turnover is super high. Board seems to have no understanding of what happens as the negative parts are filtered out by the ED. 

Place needs a total revamp in upper management.   Former Youth Manager was inflexible, despotic and forced many youth workers from their job. 

Sprit of the Children was once a tremendously important place for families.  Regrettably much of this has gone slowly downhill the past 5-10 years. From an ED that arrived at the job by default to hiring relatives that did not have the skills for the job to unstable job conditions and unprofessional workplace conduct. Especially favouritism regarding certain families and employees that were family.    Nothing was ever perfect but the potential for improvement was huge and not taken advantage of. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
The staff are great, very friendly. Management, not so much.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Not knowing how secure your job is. Walking on eggshells

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Management, the Exec. Director is a narcissist and very toxic.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Great conversation, completing tasks and feeling like your coworkers care about you

Great cultural programs inclusive of all nations and individuals. Management could be better with communication overall a good place to work Very flexible with family responsibilities. some reviews on Indeed is not even appropriate for how this place works.  Seems more that those type of comments are related to people who have been let go and not done their job. The experience the families and community have with this place is great.

SOTCS is a wonderful organization that I would encourage anyone to apply with. 

The managers encourage and support all learning. 

Your growth in programs, knowledge, continued education is greatly supported. 

The culture and traditions are priority to all staff and families. 

Great place to work! The best part of my job was being in a proactive role, that inspired and motivated young parents to transform their lives for the betterment of their families. I loved the inviting Indigenous  focused environment. SOTCS was also a great place for newly graduated students to learn, develop and strengthen skills.

focus on teaching and learning culture while keeping the clients and staffs well-being centred. many pro-d days and cultural fun days for career improvement. multiple community events to keep you connected and knowledgeable to the community. really nice ED and Board of Directors. I was very happy there.

With all you do for clients and create a good relationship

Workers on the other hand are under valued. 
The turn over rate is high
Too many bosses to answer too

If you dont click with the managers see you later.

management does not have your best interest. everyone's expendable with high turnover rate

I do not recommend working here.

This place has an unbalance of pros & cons.
They have the vision but with certain management attitude makes it not ideal to execute. there are benefits that help but not enough to keep you wanting to be a apart of the society. 
needs a face lift in management with the understanding of being people person with the right attitude.

Great place to work. Inclusive of staff in offering ideas to management. ED has an open door concept. Does good work with families and children offers varying programs, could be some changes to programs that would be benefical to participants. Enjoyed my time and would again if given the opportunity
