I loved my job at first. I never called in sick, never missed a shift, and I took EVERY single extra shift that was offered, including covering coworkers calling in. I didn't mind doing that because the work environment was so laid back, pretty relaxed pace, and I loved my coworkers. 
Management was disorganized, allowed some workers to dictate their schedules etc. Manager was our friend more so than she was a boss. Super sweet woman, but did not have the confidence or experience being in a managerial role. 
I was lied to countless times. I was let go because of a "cut back in hours"and a mere 3 days before my probation would have ended. I was assured by my manager that if more hours became available, they would be mine. My manager gave me nothing but praise and told me that I was "the best employee and that letting me go 'wasn't her choice'" 
Took them 3 months to pay me what they owed me. 
Have heard from a few other people that the turnover there is crazy and that they hire people and let them go before their probation is up so they don't have to pay them benefits. 

Management of this company is terrible. CEO is creepy, conniving and judgemental. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Spiritleaf in terms of decent coworkers, except for the store managers I encountered being mostly useless. It was fun getting to know the customers and receiving education about different brands and products coming out before being released. The culture of the place as a whole is very elitist and everyone thinks that they’re the best and have the best product when in reality - all these stores are mediocre at best. I found Spiritleaf’s aesthetic to be boring and Pinterest-board for me but the grandmothers liked it. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend any of my female friends to work here at all. The environment doesn’t feel safe and with the CEO being the way he is, it’s just uncomfortable. If you have a skill of being 100% not yourself and bending to the whim of rich old people, then this is the perfect job for you! Have fun never moving up. 

If you need a job, clock in clock out retail gig. This could be okay for you, the turnover is horrendous which is largely due to the poor upper level management. They dangle promotions like a carrot on a stick but unfortunately managing a retail store is not something you should have to work 4 years for. There is very
Little attention paid to employees needs or schedule requests. There seems to be a communication divide between upper management and retail staff where things can grow contentious. Poor job morale and management makes this a very difficult place to work regardless of how easy the actual job is. Pay is at least accurate but careful not to let them over work you. You will get taken advantage of if you don’t stick up for yourself, I’d reccomend Starbucks, Tim Hortons or McDonald’s as better employers then Spiritleaf. Lots of work to be done in increasing staff morale and actual internal growth. 

Worked for the company forr 2 years, was jerked around and lied to about potential advancement before being told that it wasn't available, and then was left with nothing and then let go with notice shortly afterwards.

Interviewed for a position 3 times within the company only for them to go with an outside hire that I was told was "really good". However when working beneath said person, all they did was talk about how the personal relationship they had withim the company is what got them the job, told me how much they make in the position I wanted, and then proceeded to barely do any of the work they were responsible for. 

Having to continually pickup the pieces of someone who is paid more than you, is an insanely frustrating environment to work in.

Overall wouldn't recommend working here as the standard of communication head office sets is non-existent to anyone other than a manager. 


Their morals, their values, it all aligned with what I was looking for. I was able to move up from my  position and life was great.

Till it wasn’t anymore. The upper management is the root cause for all the problems. They have no consideration for the people working under them. 

Everyone under them is overworked and underpaid and the wages are unfair and not consistent across the board.

They seem to not be able to keep the stores stock up, infrequent orders coming in,
The only thing they seem to care about is money at the expense of their employees. 

You are expected to open and close alone, there is no shift overlap allowed and they care more about labour % and money than the operational ability of their stores

Id recommend working literally ANY where else

Working there only a month, management has too high of expectations for the employee. (I've seen them post several job postings since working there, and I can't help but laugh at this point.)

You keep trying to find new employees but you guys have to lower your expectations.
This group of management will tell you to your face "I think you're untrainable." if you do not reach their expectations and have over 200 products memorized with every single detail about everything. You have to "know it all" and they don't give you a proper timeframe to learn at your own pace. Everything is rushed, and they expect the literal impossible to be done. I HIGHLY suggest not working for this location (Morningside) of Spiritleaf. There are way better locations with more respectful staff.

The job itself is great. As a general rule the customers are lovely and cannabis is an easy sell. I would have happily remained working with this company if it was based on the job itself. I worked at multiple locations and the store I was initially hired at was fantastic. The manager was phenomenal and my coworkers were delightful. I worked there for almost 2 years and I would highly recommend working at that store. 
Unfortunately I moved and changed locations and there was a ton of drama at the new store - it was like going back to junior high.  I worked there for almost a year and I never knew what I was going to get when I walked in the door and that turned a delightful job into a toxic painful upsetting situation that I needed to get out of. 

The HR department is almost entirely useless in regards to responding to problems, and communication from all levels of management down is non-existent. Expect to learn any policy or rule changes from your coworkers, as managers will make no effort to inform all staff, and attempt to try and discuss the abrupt changes with said management will be stonewalled. The only positive things I can say about my employment here is that the discounts are great, the benefits are amazing and the regular customers who get to know you ALMOST made it worth it. 

Definitely not the place to work if you are in university, want good mental health, have a disability or want any kind of life. Managers with take the best shifts and then just sit in their offices without offering any guidance or feedback. The managers and especially district manager love you play favourites and overlook downfalls when it comes to their friends. Truly not a welcoming place and though the pay is good, it truly is not worth the mental anguish and instability when it comes to hours and management.
On top of that head office is extremely corporate and out of touch, it’s doesn’t even feel like your selling weed with all the pressure they put on you. 1/10 do not recommend.

Senior staff pretend they're corporate spies and report you "anonymously" for made up things. Higher ups play popularity and will fire people *admittedly* for no reason when they don't like them, regardless of the quality of work. On the off-chance corporate finds a good manager, they'll put them in uncomfortable positions and ask sketchy things of them. If you can separate yourself from workplace drama - cool, go for it. They pay higher than the average dispensary and the work isn't that bad. But workplace politics and upper management will make your life harder.
