A typical day at work would find fixing fire extinguishers and inspecting them for any damage, and we could find ourselves out of the shop sometimes during the week fixing fire alarms and putting in new systems. At Sprouse I learned how to take apart and rebuild fire extinguishers, look for any damage to the cylinders, I learned to have a keen eye for small damages. The shop manager was the best manager I have ever come across. He treated all employees with respect, and listened to everyone. My co-workers were awesome people to work with, always in a good mood, and ready to work. The hardest part of the job was honestly leaving the company, there was nothing that was too difficult to overcome. The most enjoyable part of the job was knowing that the fire extinguisher that I am fixing could save someones life in the future.

The company is mismanaged at a fundamental level. Customer dissatisfaction often becomes a blame game when its a clear failure of sales/management follow through and customer care. There appears to be a penny pinching bare minimum style business model that misses the bigger picture; little effort is made to maintain and seek business leaving clients often confused and misinformed. Overwhelmed or incompetent front end staff that are often the first to be layed-off with an over-encumbered field staff given moving targets and any excuse to deny reward.

Poor and unsafe work environment. No WHIMIS or safety training whatsoever. Employs lazy workers. No raises or incentives and was asked to buy buttons for company work pants that are then given back to the company once terminated. Drama orientated workplace. Management lazy and tries to enforce no breaks or that while on break one "had" to stay and socialize with the department. Job insecurity.

This company used to be a good place to work until about 2011-2012 then the team/family environment was sucked out of it. Now it is poorly ran with everyone with a manager position is either drunk or just have way too much on their plate to be helpful in anyway. Employees are being pushed hard and being told they can not refuse unsafe work and they push for quantity over quality which is scary. Because they are working with what is supposed to be life saving devices

management is horrible, being based in edmonton and the main office in calgary its hard to communicate with the managment there or even keep up with who is in management.
there is no workplace culture
the hardest part of the job is having to come in and not know what your getting yourself into.

Work in the field as fire prevention technician, all over Edmonton, Alberta. Driving all over town and surrounding area as fire extinguisher technician was a good experience to see the province from Calgary to B.C.

I learned lot working for Sprouse. I started at 19 and really didn't know anything in regards to tools and general shop labour. But they were patient, and I learned and I'm grateful my employment here.

Management makes promises they don't keep, I was promised raises that I never got, their fleet of early 2000's ford rangers are constantly in a state of disrepair, their fleet of dodge grand caravans aren't much better. If you are lucky you will get a vest that doesn't have any tares in it. Garbage company to work for. 

Working in this company is very toxic and compensation is very low. Working conditions is full of stress. I would suggest that you apply in other companies  where in the environment is healthy for growth and career advancement.
