Square One

Working at Square One has been a refreshing change from the "old school" insurance world. A typical day is fast-paced and revolves around the phones; you’re handling a high volume of inbound calls and helping clients personalize their home or auto policies. It can be repetitive, but the proprietary software the company uses is intuitive, making the workflow much smoother than at legacy firms.

In my time here, I’ve learned so much about personal lines insurance across multiple provinces. The company is huge on professional development—they fully supported me through my Level 2 licensing and ongoing training.

The management style is very open-door. From when I started to now, the company has grown much larger but has retained its small-company values. There’s a high level of trust and autonomy once you’ve proven you know your stuff.

The hardest part of the job is the constant pace, because the company is growing so fast, change is the only constant, which can be stressful if you prefer a highly predictable routine.

However, the most enjoyable part is the transparency and the perks. The profit-sharing plan makes you feel like you actually have skin in the game, and the flexibility to work from home has been a massive boost for my work-life balance. It’s a great spot if you’re tech-savvy and want to build a real career in insurance.

Square One provided me with a stable job 14 years ago that I was able to turn into an incredibly rewarding, fulfilling career. I was able to succeed because of the support I had from management and other team members. At Square One, you are provided autonomy and great training and are encouraged to make decisions and learn from them, regardless of the outcome. I have never been made to feel bad for making a mistake; rather, it's an opportunity to learn and move forward, and I have never worked for a company where I felt more valued and cared for.  Days can be hectic and at times routine, but that is part of a the day-to-day at any job. I enjoy the challenge of working for a fast-paced, innovative, growing company and I have built really amazing relationships with many people in the organization and have a ton of respect for the corporate leadership. I would not work for a company for 14 years plus if it wasn't a great place to be and looking forward to seeing where we go next!

Square One provided me the remote opportunity I'd been searching for since joining the industry. While the licensed agent role can be repetitive and the fast-paced nature of insurance isn't always easy, the culture does make it worth it. 

The sales management team supports your goals while giving you the space to work without being mircomanged. Most importantly, the company's core values align with my own, especially: treating people the right way which is the golden rule of life and a huge win in customer service. As well as taking ownership and solving problems; this provides the understanding that we are all human. Being able to learn from mistakes without fearing for your job is rare. 

In an industry that can often feel corporate and cold, Square One feels human. It's a great environment for anyone who wants to work hard, and be trusted to do their job. 



Square One has been my favourite employer I have ever worked for over the past 9 years of my working life.

The leadership team takes a strong employee-centric approach with strong compensation plans, vacation time, and support to grow in your chosen field. I've never worked for a company that cares about their employees this much.

Everyone who works at Square One is friendly. From your first day to months later, everyone is a joy to work with.

Family-like environment especially in the office. Management is constantly working hard to create an inclusive work environment for those working remote as well.  There are days that can be very challenging and stressful but the managers never fail to acknowledge one's hardwork. You get all the help you need in order to succeed.

Square One is one of the best employers I have ever had. You are truly set up for success, and if you are willing to put in the work, the opportunities to grow are endless. 

The pay is very fair, they allow full remote work and staff are always advised of any changes the company is making. 

The company hosts several events each year for staff in multiple locations to build and foster team relationships. The effort put in by management does not go unnoticed. 

The Square One leadership team makes sure you're supported in every task and project you work on. Any initiatives and recommendations you have gets acted on immediately, so you know your work is really valued. 

The environment is amazing. Team dinners, fun events, and a great office space makes it easy and enjoyable to come in to work every day.

This is a great place to learn personal lines insurance. The environment seemed fun and positive at first but it quickly turned quite negative. Very micro-managed. Some bad toxic apples in the management team. It's great if you are on their good side but once you are on the bad side, it's an uncomfortable place to be. I'm sure this attitude is the reason for a lot of turnover.

The company has a great culture with amazing colleagues.
Always looking for new ideas and ways to improve processes. They take employee feedback seriously. 
Management is supportive and provides a clear outline of advancement opportunities
Many staff have been here for over 10 years is the most telling sign that this is a great place to work.
