St Andrews Hospice

The management constantly pass of their work to assistants and then claim it as their own. They spend most of their time in meetings so have no time to actually do much else. The people who earn the most, have a disgusting attitude, considering it's a charity, it's every man for himself and everyone thinks they're department is the most important. The work environment was quite lonely, our department didn't sit with the rest of it's relative departments and were just thrown into the middle of a huge communal room filled with unrelated businesses. I found it very hard to be positive in this job and was constantly miserable. I did not enjoy my job and was stunned by the awful attitude of staff, especially the higher management. There was always constant blame to each other, telling you your work wasn't up to standard, when you mostly went in blind because they didn't have a brief in mind in the first place, so you'd have to play a mind-reader most of the time. The teamwork side of things didn't even exist as far as I was concerned, everyone only thought about themselves. The clinical side of the hospice was absolutely brilliant, you could not fault it in the slightest. The clinical staff do fantastic work. Just don't work in the non-clinical side! It seemed that the best attitudes came from those who volunteered at the hospice! Quite disgusting when some people are earning a huge amount of money for the work that their assistants do and clocking off at dinner time!

The volunters and the customers in the shops

The senior management and there unrealistic expectations and the us and them culture and the poor pay

Us and them  senior managers out of touch with the others

Phone ring no stop 
No structure usually chaos

Such a shame as loved the work. Unfortunately the pay is disgusting for what you are expected to do and the responsibility you are given. Management shocking, not supportive and putting constant barriers in the way of you getting on. Expected to work 13hr days. New starter packs supposed to get filled in but with no time to do it as you’re thrown in to work and then expected to do that too! Lovely place and the ethos is amazing but unfortunately shattered my dream job

Very emotional. Can be draining having to be in a good headspace

Hard work but very rewarding , hands on caring

Overall an amazing hospice , can't fault the nurses and the incredible work they do. 
Retail team are incredible and work extremely hard. 
The job was overall great and I enjoyed my time there. Some management were taking credit for others work which was frustrating especially if you worked hard on a project. 
Pay is minimum but it is a charity In which it provides free care to the community so it makes it worth it. Would work here again 


Great management from my side, great experience from all departments, little room for progression especially for younger staff when i was there but i hope that has changed.

Poor salary and you don't get paid for the extra half an hour per day needed if you're on the retail side. Poor prospects and senior staff don't stay long. 

This is not a bag pick up it is a removals with heavy  furniture you need a d license if you have one of those license you only get minimum pay not even the living wage it is hard work and not for the fate Hearted 

The environment is such that you feel you are really making a difference as each day one interacts with those benefitting from your endeavours.
Every day was different in my role.

Worked here for work experience. I only worked here for  2 weeks as a part of my a levels but was a nice work environment to be in and staff were all friendly.
