If you're a young person, look somewhere else. There's no room for advancement unless you want to join the toxic culture of management. You can receive great reviews year after year but you won't even get cost of living in your increase. They are happy to spend money on re designs to make busy work for management while the employees fall further behind. 

Older employees will tell you its not what it used to be. They slowly strip benefits year after year and you find yourself worse off than when you started. I once heard a director say in a meeting "we don't need to take care of our employees, we know their not going anywhere". Im not kidding! Avoid this place. 

Bullys get ahead and you have to be one of "the guys" to get ahead. Horrible culture to work for. HR will not do anything and will target you if you ever bring something up, so everyone knows not to.

The only redeeming quality are the floor employees which in general are honest and hardworking and do the best they can under the constant management misdirection. Most people on the floor are helpful and nice and its a shame management treats them such a way. 

The work is generally repetitive but can be interesting and you are always learning something. You can typically work overtime if you wish as well (you'll need it with what they're paying).   


Standard Aero is an aerospace company that has a great reputation within the overhaul and maintenance of turbine engines. Standard Aero receives National Defence contracts from Canada, USA, Australia and European countries. Standard Aero's business model has employees as one of the integral assets to the company. It was a good company to work for and has kept a small company attitude over the huge years of expansion I was with them. Management was genraly professional and attend management training camps regularly. Employees have an opportunity to learn and advance their careers within the company depending on the occupation or trade they do. The hardest part of being a Technical Illustrator was keeping tight deadlines. The most enjoyable part of being a Technical Illustrator was the satisfaction of doing well on a project.

I worked for standardaero for 35 plus years. The rewards are minimal when it compares to other large companies of its size. It's bonus system is minimal when other companies have large pay outs. You can't roll over your unused sick days and are not rewarded for not using them. They do have a 5% max pension to match the employee's contribution bit the employee's are stuck paying the management fees of the fund which can eat away at the interest the money earns. Not noticeable when first starting but it hurts you in the pocket book the more years of senority you have as the funds are in larger sums. You won't retire early with this contribution unless you pay over and above on your own early in life.
The anniversary rewards are not worth the price for a Yeats service when compared to other large companies.

15 years total working for this company, I am essentially what is considered a mechanic 3/subject matter expert as per the requirements for that pay scales. I'm arguably the most qualified technician they have for the module I work on. Every performance review I've ever received has met or exceeds expectations. I currently make 30.02$ per hour. The starting wage for someone with 0 experience or education in the field is 25$. They will hire car mechanics (not the same thing at all) for need 30$+ an hour. 

Great place to get a job because the starting wage is currently set so high. But horrific place to actually put time and effort into a career unless you enjoy getting taken advantage of. 

I Grew as a person as well as an employee   I was given the opportunity to challenge myself.   With Standard Aero I was basically given the freedom to express my Customer Service Skills,  My computer skills,  I gave Presentations I created learning logs.  I felt appreciated for all the hard work I put in.  I carried an afterhours phone and worked from home a lot of the time.   Until one day the company was bought out, and a lot of what we did from Canada was sourced out to the USA.  Because of the outsourcing  the logistics team was minimized.

StandardAero will hire anyone who can hold a wrench. Anyone can learn the job but some HR has hired people clearly unfit for what we do.  Managers keep getting shuffled, raises are inadequate.  CEO of the company had a speech just last year that said that the company invests in their employees, but StandardAero is not even wage competitive compared to Boeing or Magellan. People jump ship because of this. At the end of the day, we're all just trying to make money for our families to survive this ongoing inflation. The wages are just not keeping up. The saving grace for me personally are the coworkers who still keep their integrity despite being let down by the company year after year.

All the people who've worked there a long time tell you the place isn't what it used to be. Everyone is grumpy. Managers are clueless or out for themselves. People on floor are kept in the dark about what is going on. Pay is below average by quite a bit for many. Benefits are slowly being rolled back and nothing can be done because SA isn't unionized. Nepotism/favoritism can sometimes be blatant. Professional growth limited. Recently, a number of higher-ups have been fired and a good number of people on the floor have quit or are actively looking to leave. Begs the question what is going on?

It’s a good place to work  and the people / employees your working with are nice and accommodating 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
It’s just like a normal day every day.Clock in and put your usb to check what’s your work for the day and mostly that’s my typical day

Morale is at an all time low in plant 6. They need to look after the employees that have been there for a long time. The Wages are the lowest in the industry. There is way too many polices. There are  100's of them..... Enough to drive you nuts. People need to work together rather than creating snags and tattling like little kids or for that matter writing another policy. Upper management does whatever they want. They need to work together with senior employees to figure out better production rather than listening to bean counters.

HR likes to use threatening tactics and lies to control and manipulate employees, also to achieve the tasks set before them.  HR sides with and backs up whatever management dictates. There is no middle person or entity to represent the employee.  Salary progression is very slow, and not nearly enough to account for the responsibilities and downfalls of the job. Company moral is sitting at an all time low. Company is relying too much on its good reputation and successes from the past to cover up for all its downfalls and poor management of today.
