Overall not a good experience. Worked there for a few months in-between jobs, they promise alot throughout the interview process that doesn't materialize past walking out the door minutes later. A wage was agreed upon and they asked me to start imidiatly. When I received my pay it was incorrect, the wage was lower then agreed upon. I had questioned it with management and tried to contact the person I interviewed with and they just answered that circumstances have changed and they are no longer authorized to give the agreed upon rate. I decided to continue working there anyway. I mostly worked the concert season and shifts for these events were supposed to be 12 hours either nights or days, we were not to leave our post until a supervisor came to get us and switch us out with another employee which is not uncommon, the issue is that they would force 16 hour shifts because "busses were late" to pick employees up and bring us back to the location they had us sleeping for our time off. Lunch was provided, which were great for the first day, but inedible for the following 3 days as it seemed they ordered a mass amount and tried to keep it in coolers which did not keep the integrity of the food unfortunately. The downside to that as I've mentioned is you were not allowed to leave your post to get food elsewhere, so make sure to grocerie shop before hand and bring your own food or risk being very hungry for extended periods of time. Some of the management was really nice, but other members of the supervisor / management team were extremely unprofessional. Wether it be hitting on staff and patrons, or abusing their "power" and yelling and demeaning people at will, many times without reason. Overall a very poor work experience. Im honestly not a bitter person, and thankfully have had a few years now to reflect before posting any kind of review, as such I've since worked several other security positions with various companies, and can honestly say that this was the worst. Thankfully I gave the roll another try with other companies because STAR Security should not be the example to follow for what the the baseline security experience is. 

I have worked with Star Security for 3 major events which are: Wayhome Festival at Oro-Medonte, Veld Music Festival at Downsview Park and lastly the most recent one was Boots & Hearts Festival at Oro-Medonte. 

I have worked both day and night shifts in the mentioned events. While working for Star Security, I have lots of things including new ways to observe people and their activities. I was taught to pat down people, and search them of any sharp metals, and unsealed items. I made many new friends at these events and even got to meet them again in the rest of the events. My co-workers were mostly all caring and helpful in all types of situations. I think the hardest part of the job was probably working at Veld Music Festival because I was assigned a position by my supervisor where I was to watch fences/barricades and prevent people hopping over. I was also given permission by my supervisor to calmly cooperate with those jumpers to stop and if not, we were told to engage to try to take them down and radio the police immediately to make arrests. The most enjoyable part of the job was that I worked for major events, it wasn't like a normal job for me because I lived there for 4 days with my co-workers and we worked but also enjoyed the experience.

More of a mom and pop type of security company. The pay can be good if your position is in demand. Typical day of work would be event security so having people provide their I.D., searching for alcohol and drugs, providing access control and other basic security duties. I learned the knit and grit of security here and the importance of suitable confrontation based on behaviour. The management is very nice and very easy to talk to.They provide positive reinformcent and act as if they are your friends. Scheduling can be problematic, but they are very flexible if you require more hours. Co-workers have all been good people and easy to get along with. Almost felt like a family environment. The hardest part of the job is reasoning with intoxicated individuals and having to detain them when they got rowdy. The most enjoyable part of the job is when you realize you actually did somebody a favour when removing them from the prmises as they could have ended up in the hospital or in jail.

Star Secuitry is a bottom of the barrel security company, because of this their management is comprised of the most moronic knuckledraggers you will ever have the displeasure of working for. They will pay you minimum wage (when they actually get your pay cheque to you in time) for standing in the sun for 8-10 hours with no water and a hat only if you’re willing to pay for it. 

The interview process is a joke. If you have a pulse Star will hire you on the spot without a second thought. This may explain the state of their management. Save your time and your mind by finding a different security company to work for, perhaps one that cares even a bit about what they do. 

Also be warned that if you quit they will ‘convientely’ forget and call you at odd hours to work shifts despite not being employed for many months. Star Security, you can get hired but you can never truly leave.

With security there is always long hours of standing. I had to get  First Aid and CPR Certified. I learned a lot about how to deal with large groups of people, how to escort high priority clients and how to screen people entering an event. The management was always top notch, and they were always willing to help! The hardest part of the job I would say is the long hours you would have to stand, rain or shine, you'd have to come prepared. The most enjoyable part was working events and just having a good time. Music playing, lots of people partying; the atmosphere was energetic.

Hardest part would definitely be the long hours, but i didn't really mind because i prefer night shifts. All of the guards were taken care of in terms of having a place to sleep, which was at a college dorm which was quite close to the workplace. Although free lunches were provided, there have been several mishaps where they were delivered really late, or weren't given at all

Star pay poorly but bolster the pay by paying cash but be warned your vacation pay is non existent. Management are imbassils and have no idea how to mangage staff welfare. Uniforms are sub standard at best and will not keep you warm on a cold day at BMO field so prepare to wrap up well, on the flip side during a hot day you better have your own water as they equally don’t care about staff hydration. Overall it was a poor poor experience during my time with them

The staff , supervisors , and people are great ! Always enjoy working for great events , concerts , festivals . Etc

The lack of guards . Need more guards .
