The management is very friendly and accommodating (almost to a fault) but there is a lack of organization. Fellow employees who worked there for months before me were still unable to answer questions about where things were. More of a problem with some of the employees, but some had little to no work ethic and weren’t encouraged to stay at work if their attitude was bad. Perhaps it’s not a bad thing to tell your employees “if you don’t want to work, leave.” But it elicits an environment where those employees don’t feel expected to work, and thus have no real sense of urgency when completing tasks. That being said, it also creates a space where those training new employees are cutting corners or not teaching basic procedures because they don’t care to. Thus creating new employees who also don’t feel a sense of urgency and aren’t taught the specific rules of the work environment. Again, management was more than accommodating when it came to medical leave/sick days and they were very understanding, but because of this I found they often continuously worked with employees who didn’t perform “normally” (for lack of better term) without “consequence” (or, more accurately, a reminder of the expectations that employees should be held to). Which, by the way, isn’t a problem. Sometimes there are employees who are dealing with other factors that make them less able to perform/be on the same level as the employees who are young and spry and zooming around at the speed of light. It becomes a problem when employees who are capable of the same median levels of work are held to drastically different standards, without the inclusion of disability/age/language. Because, of course, there’s always going to be people from different walks of life who are at different speeds. On the opposite end, the employees with a fast-paced work ethic, no matter how new, were assigned an increasing amount of rooms on busy days whereas those with the lack of work-ethic stayed with a low amount as there was no expectation for them to work quickly. The employees with a lower sense of urgency/priority (and I don’t want to be insensitive to the circumstances that may have been surrounding said employees as individuals) were not held to the same standards of those present who very obviously wanted to work and wanted to work efficiently. The result being employees who were going above and beyond were viewed as less reliable if they didn’t complete their workload even if it was 2x the workload of those who didn’t and exemplified contemptuous behaviour. It just doesn’t make sense to me why a workplace would tolerate employees expressing to the management that they were upset with the tasks they were assigned to do when those tasks are basics of the job description. I understand complaining about your job in general with your coworkers because it’s work and everyone likes to vent about things, but it was to the people that were assigning said tasks. I guess I just wonder why those types of people were kept on the schedule for the same amount, if not more, time than those who were consistently on time and ready to work.

Working here is a privilege and an investment into a bright future. Management is amazing with great skills as well as advice that can take you far in your path to being better at your job.

Working the front desk, I had the support, leadership, mentorship, and guidance from not only the two supervisors, but team members, and the General Manager. Making mistakes is allowed and not frowned on unless those mistakes become repetitive. You are allowed to learn from the mistakes and grow from them. The level of patience from Management is extraordinary and chances are given often!

However, there will always be one or two people you clash with or do not get along with. The key is to try to talk things out or make things work, and if they cannot, then atleast come to a mutual understanding of one another and know each other's boundaries.

Also, be aware that some leadership is not great leadership, and can bring you down. If this happens, there is HR, but in cases like mine it can be too late. HR protects the company before it protects the employee.

My typical day of work, as soon at as I get to work I have to plan on how to distribute the work to be done to all employees scheduled for that day. I have learnt how to study the weaknesses and strength of every worker, knowing their weaknesses and strength helped me a lot to decide what task should I assign to them. My co-workers are amazing people. They are beautifull inside out, a very hardworking people. The hardest part of my job is having not enough people with so many jobs to do, in situation like this, I have to priorities jobs that has to be done first, and utilize every employee we have scheduled for that day.The most enjoyable part of my job is having a good team. Everybody help each other to finish the task we have.

Owner refused to spend on the business and upkeep anymore. Could be 5 star if a little effort is put into it. Management is horrible. Couldn't care less about employees. Will not hire more employees even in dire situations. Will not provide requested schedules. Front desk has to mop floor and clean garbage. No cleaners. Not enough employees to handle the delegated responsibility. Underpaid in relation to the expected duty and responsibilities. High potential with no backing from owner or management. Sabotage war amongst managers. It's a sad place really. Hope they turn things around.

Timeline Estimate

Typical pathway:

* Ghana law degree + Ghana Bar: 5–6 years
* NCA process: 1–3 years
* Licensing/articling: around 1 year

So becoming fully licensed in Canada after Ghana law training can realistically take several more years.

Best Strategy If You Haven’t Started Yet

If your long-term target is Canada, the strongest path is usually:

1. Complete LL.B in Ghana
2. Get called to the Ghana Bar
3. Gain some legal experience in Ghana
4. Move to Canada and complete NCA
5. Apply for licensing in your preferred province

Having actual lawyer experience from Ghana can strengthen your profile significantly compared to only having the degree.

Routine is well established , supervision makes your work day dependable within your given tasks, attendance there was Good.I learned hands on customer service some better team work.Management had high goals. Keep employees energetic and happy.The hardest part of job is spending a small amount of time on tasks(lots employees there want to do the best job). Sharing things with other employees (lunches, cleaning tricks)

A typical day would be checking guests in and meeting their inquiries on a daily basis and completing the tasks given by the management.
Making guests feel comfortable such as their own home.Once a week I also check the inventory and balance the cash till given by management.Made new reservations individual and groups.

This type of hotel provides fantastic opportunity to experience the extended stay lifestyle. There is a sense of regularity with many repeat and longterm guests during the week however the weekend mostly does provide leisure guests. This hotel is great for honing independent, problem solving and empowerment skills, especially for new entrants into the industry.
