Steelcase

The day is started at seven o'clock with a team meeting where we review the previous days activities, and plan the present day. After the meeting we do stretches before we start working.
As Steelcase is an office environment company.My work included delivering sub-assembly parts and packaging materials to the assembly lines from the storage areas. And also delivering  parts to be painted to the paint line. Parts are stored in containers in there lot sizes and needs continuous replacement throughout the day. Shortages are reported to the material planner. We have two ten minute breaks, and a half hour lunch, and the day ends at three thirty. We attended different workshops such Poka Yoke, Kaizen, ISO14001 EMS, CPR, WHMIS.
The company had a good management team and my co-workers were good to work with.
the hardest part of the job was the high expectations placed on us by management.
The most enjoyable part of the work was seeing the work done right first time, on time.

A typical day at works starts at 5:00 am, I start all systems and review work orders schedule them and proceed according to their priority. My day ends with a sign off of work orders.

Working with co workers has been a pleasure as they are all cooperative and experienced. Management provides the support need and show their appreciation.

The hardest part of the job is meeting strict deadlines and the most enjoyable part of the job is problem solving.

A typical day at Steelcase would start with our dept. morning meeting to find out any issues and concerns , right after that we would all do our morning stretches before we start work. Over the years at the company I have learned how to prioritize my work communicate with management , office staff and coworkers and most importantly to do the job safe and efficient . Our management staff was top natch great to deal with and very friendly coworkers and very much enjoyed doing daily work functions together.

There was none well maybe a machine would have problems

It was very nice work environment no matter where I worked in Steel case

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A very productive day where there wasn't any or a few slow downs in the shift

Paid a generous buy-out upon plant closure. I cannot say any thing bad about Steel case Canada Inc.. We were required to move about the plant on the afternoon shift filling production schedules. I did fabrication jobs such as assembly, upholstery, and welding. I was required to 'pack' and check order labels for shipment

Heavy work if you have more important things going in your life.  Management is rude and yell at you like if your a slave,  people come and go like crazy, i believe because of the pressure from management, they lie about your schedule and always have you coming in for overtime, this job is perfect for those who like to have no freedom .     Thankful for the job nevertheless , things could go more safe in there.

-product development of contract office furniture (office panel systems)
-create assemblies and parts drawings for engineering release including BOM and DXF
-maintained CAD data files with revisions
-revised drawings of parts and assembly through engineering releases as necessary.

Great Company.
To bad they decided to close their only Canadian facility.
The fact that the average person has been there for 20+ years shows that they don't only try and sell great furniture for a great work environment, but also have one of their own.

Made many friends there, and hope many of them still have employment.  Much of the management were total idiots to say nicely.  Couldn't wait to find a better job.

Long-time employee with very few complaints; I'm proud to say I had the opportunity to work there
