Stemcell-Technologies

- This company provides terrible 'opportunities' that limit career advancement if an employee ever tries to leave.
- Management is absent, or when actually contributing, makes uninformed decisions that disrupt employee advancing with approved projects.
- Women are not treated appropriately.  Management asked each woman in an all-women meeting if each planned to get married and start a family.  Would men be asked the same?
- Management doesn't conduct proper research prior to making decisions, and changes their minds often which looks disorganized and unprofessional.
- Employees are unhappy and complain constantly.
- There are almost 50 HR staff working in the company.  Why so many if they never address employee concerns?  What are they doing?
- The company is moving to Production Way near SFU.  Almost all employees will need to commute much further (+45 minutes each way) to get to work.  They don't tell this to job candidates.
- The company actively removes negative posts from Glassdoor, etc. to make their ratings look better.  That isn't ethical and misleads potential job candidates.

I was very excited to be hired at Stemcell following my undergrad. It's supposedly a hard company to get into.
Was told many times about the opportunities for advancement after one year at the company, as well as the numerous internal courses offered to employees. I believed that this would allow me to explore different areas of the company. However, there are a small number of internal courses, and many are reserved solely for employees who require the course.
Management style is quite old-school. Change happens very slowly, as typical in such a corporate top-down structure.
Co-workers are great, but the company does not seem to value its employees as much as they make it seem.

Typical Day at Work:
Flexible hours working with an awesome team. 
As the company is in a period of growth, there is always something new to do and learn. 

Management:
Management are good with people and encourage open and honest communication. They are authentic and act with integrity.

Workplace Culture:
It's a relaxed workplace culture, which focuses on the important aspects of the job such as high quality performance and interdepartmental collaboration and less so about standards of dress. 
Amazing Christmas Holiday Party which celebrates the achievements of the whole company over the past year. 
Loads of great clubs and societies to join such as STEMSail, STEMRun, STEMJazz, STEMRock, Dragon Boats, Volley Ball, Book Club and many more. 

Hardest part of the job:
It's a busy work place. 

Best part of the job:
The people.

Most daily tasks are non productive, inefficient and draining. It takes half a year to introduce even the simplest of changes to current business processes. The same execs that are begging for cost savings end up rejecting every single valid proposal. 

This is a very classic 90s egocentric work environment where people who suck up thrive over people actually doing any work. 

Repetitive layoffs with overall poor change management and communication. The departments actually hitting their objectives and bettering the company are getting cut while the rampant failure departments see little to no impact. Top down change is needed in at least 4 departments. The same people who take a company to 100m often can't take the company to 1b.

Very comfortable place to work in regards to the friendliness of everyone in the company, no matter where they are placed in the hierarchy.
Work hours are stable, usually with the choices of 8am-4pm, 9am-5pm, or 10am-6pm, but depending on your situation and department you also have the choice of 6am-2pm, 7am-3pm, or 11am-7pm. 
As an office assistant, the worst part of the job would be that the projects I work on would be quite tedious, but the environment and convenience of the hours and pay made it worth it. 
Extremely understanding managers, always focus on health first if you're having any struggles.

STEMCELL Technologies is a great place to work. The people they select are qualified, educated and fit well within the teams. The downside is that if you do not have a scientific background, it is hard to move up within the company, you don't get the same opportunities and are not treated the same as someone that has a PhD in a science related field. That being said, they are committed to helping you accomplish your goals, they encourage goal setting and keep you accountable. The managers never hesitate to give you feedback, both positive and constructive.  

The people around me are the only things left that are good.  After the dismissal of a few loved executives and the rigid RTO policies the overall morale has shifted.  The remaining people are just hanging on and overworked from all the extra tasks. Projects have stalled after many people jumped ship due to this. The CEOs daughter is collecting teams like it's going out of style and only promoting those within her circle.  How many project managers are needed in this company.... all of them.  If you're a project manager just apply... you'll get the the job.... but all the subject matter experts are leaving so good luck with the outcome.  

I have had the opportunity to work with multiple corporate departments as well as external groups such as vendors and our corporate law firm.

Over the years I have developed advanced skills using Salesforce.com, ELOQUA, and Excel.

The most enjoyable part of my job is that I can work with my team members to apply our technical skills to resolve technical issues and provide technical assistance to Sales reps, Marketing colleagues, and departmental project teams.

I had the opportunity to work at Stemcell, and I highly recommend the company. The work environment is professional and supportive, with a focus on collaboration and innovation. The teams are friendly and always willing to assist. The leadership is approachable and open to new ideas, offering clear paths for professional growth. The work conditions are excellent, with flexibility and good communication. Overall, it's a great company to develop your skills and be part of exciting projects. I am glad to have worked here and would recommend it to others.



Stemcell has a fantastic culture on paper but does not always live up to it in practice. The company has grown very quickly with many employees being there from it's infancy. This has caused many inexperienced people to be in management positions who aren't always the best choice.
 It can be easy to coast in the company as they will try and support you any way they can but this will leave the good workers to pick up that slack, without the credit or pay for it.
