Stitches YM INC

I was an assistant manager here i have to say that management was poor i use to love going into work in the beginning and then eventually started to hate it fast i worked for the company for 7 years and should have had my own store by the end but there was always an excuse as to why i didn't get promoted eventually i just grew tired of it and left the company to seek other opportunities that were going to advance me cause obviously the company was not going to. There was never any hours to really run the store so you were always left by yourself in the store half the time which left you to run cash change rooms merchandising as well as stock. I remember one time we got hit with stock so bad that you couldn't even walk into the backroom. I was very good at my job in fact after i left stitches a lot of the customers would no longer shop in the store cause i no longer worked there because they didn't to deal with anyone but me cause they found that a lot of the staff no longer wanted work like our teams did back in the day the younger generation no longer want to work hard for there money but who would want to really? When there is no incentive for them to really work hard when there was no longer any commission program and they took away a lot of our bonus programs which were amazing cause they really made up your money at the age of 22 i was making more money then both my parents but when they took those incentives away and gave us a straight salary no one wanted to really work for there money anymore cause they they were no longer make those bonuses. Its really sad to see a place that i once loved and hoped i would have my own store in is no longer the same i walk in no one says hi  to you they are all standing behind the counter talking and no longer assisting customers like we did back in the day. Its just so sad that YM INC lost so many great employees that really truly did put there heart and soul and time into there stores and the company. I remember some days management would do 12 to 13 hr days but we always felt  great pumped and excited to see the results of our work and things where done that needed to be done. YM INC has very high expectations with no give with the hours like i said so sometimes you would be slammed and by your self and the store would be a mess and your DM or head merchandiser would walk in to do an audit and you would fail cause they didn't want give the hours. I once loved the company and inspired to be a DM maybe an RM but when i was passed by for promotion and left and found out that if i had of went back i would have had that store it crushed my heart cause i worked hard for the company at this point i don't know if they will ever be able to turn it around unless they have the right management that inspired to be the best talent in the business like we were truly and honestly. our old management teams use to have so much fun we all talked and knew each other and the best times were when we did store remodel or new store open we would bust our BUTTS to make that store perfect NCO! it wasn't always bad working for the company but it wasn't always good it really went down hill when they started moving around DM's and RM's who some where more difficult to work with then others.

As a sales associate you are expected to cover fitting rooms and keep tables and racks clean, while greeting everyone with the proper sales going on. Cashiers are expected to do all of this as well as being able to ring people though. You aren't always on these tasks as it does depend on the day and if the store is considerably more packed or if it's a slow day. Sometimes you are given a stock shift, which can be out of the floor or in the back. These are relatively easy after a while because your speed increases and you know where everything needs to be tagged. The employees and management are wonderful there, but we do end up hiring a lot of seasonal's and part-timers, which end up lowering the amount of hours you get a week. Its not rare to end up with two or three hours a week only when the store isn't making budget and theres nothing you can do about it. Even though part-time is usually around 20 hours a week you most likely will never get this much, especially if you haven't worked there the longest.

Being a Warehouse Outlet, the store was huge and hundreds of customers would come in daily so obviously the sales floor would become a mess by the end of the day. This was an issue because we were way too understaffed and it would always take us a long time to ready the store for the next day, sometimes going hours over our scheduled shifts. Management was a hit or miss — some were helpful and kind, others were lazy and demanding. Head Office set unrealistic goals and would dock us for not achieving them. Not a lot of upside to working here besides being a relatively easy first job to get. Go get that 1-2 year retail experience every other reputable store is asking for and get out.

Overall I enjoyed working with the people but not with the company as a whole. 
Everything is disorganized and no one is properly trained. The company are some of the biggest penny-pinchers you will ever meet. If your store is in a bad location or maybe just hitting a dry spell than you are barely making more than minimum wage as a manager. They tell you they pay you so little as management because they have amazing monthly bonuses, but if the store you happen to get the job at isn't making budget than you won't see a cent of any such bonuses for months. 
All I can say is theres a reason why they have such a bad turn-over rate.

Their expectations were always very high out of reach. This caused  (in my opinion) their high turn over rate which allowed for job security and advancements. Your DM tells you one thing, your RM tells you another and before you know it, you've wasted a week's worth of time rearranging your store for nothing.

Overall this was a great job, there was the odd occasion with upper management resulting in slight conflict but the pay was good and hours were reasonable. Although the pay difference between provinces is questionable.

All the in store employees were fantastic at the Brantford Location, the District Manager however has no idea what they're doing sometimes. The location decided it couldn't give any hours to the people they hired and laid off about 60% of staff at the store.

Stitches offers little to no training to its employees. A do what I say and know what I’m talking about kind of mind set. Trained by a store manager who used fear to run her store and a District Manager who wouldn’t take accountability for any of her actions, willing to throw anyone under the bus.

Working at the individual store is great - teamwork is nice, good work environment but the higher ups give you little to work with and expect too much. The budget goals are rather high and if you don't make it, more often then not, you won't make bonus.
